《Peridot x Human!Reader》Chapter 3 - Propositions and Roommates

When you got back to the front to continue your work, you couldn't seem to get Peridot off your mind. 'Was your idea for the best?' and 'Would she even agree to your offer?' All of these silent thoughts racing through your head as you worked diligently to serve customers.
When your shift finally ended, you couldn't help yourself from running to the clock out station and meet up with Peridot again.
As you walked to the back and opened the doors, you felt slight relief to see that she hadn't left yet. You smiled warmly to her as she jerked her head towards your direction in surprise.
She first had a slight look of fear on her face, maybe from the thought it was someone besides you. Her look quickly turned into a scowl, with a hint of relief as well, as she turned her attention back to the television. Was she relieved that you had came back like you said you would?
"Okay, Peridot, I'm done with work. Are you ready?" You leaned in towards her, waiting for her reaction. She asked in a defensive tone "Ready for what?" as she turned her attention back towards you.
"Oh, that's right, my idea." You felt silly for jumping ahead of yourself. "I've decided to make you an offer." You said as you sat yourself down next to her. Your sweet scent of icing and freshly brewed coffee wafted near Peridot, making her eyes widen a bit at both the smell, and the proposition. "And what is this... offer, human?"
You frowned at how she was still referring to you as 'human'. "First of all, my name is (N), so you can call me that. Second, I would like to ask you if you would want to stay at my house until you get yourself a proper place to keep yourself safe at night."

Your words seemed to spark many emotions to flicker across Peridot's face. Confusion, caution, anxiousness, and maybe even fear.
"Why would i ever rely on a human to keep me safe?! I-I'm perfectly secure by myself, you pebble!" Peridot wanted to feel insulted, but she honestly knew that she did need a base to keep herself hidden from the Crystal Gems until she found a way back to Homeworld. There was no way that Peridot would admit that so easily though.
Her reaction slightly surprised you. You knew it was a shot in the dark, offering a person you simply met yesterday to stay at your home. You thought it was a nice offer though. Much nicer than a wet box to sleep in. You didn't think she would act this defensive about it though. "Oh! S-sorry, i didn't mean to upset you. I just wanted to offer."
Peridot honestly was wanting to take the offer. 'Who cares if the human would be there? It's not like it would get in the way much. If it did, I can simply destroy the human and keep the base until I get a response from Homeworld.'
As Peridot was mulling over the idea, She didn't want to seem weak and give in, but she knew she needed a place to hide from those Crystal Gems. When Peridot looked up, she seen you still standing there with a worried look on your face.
Peridot gave an annoyed sigh and spoke. "You know what? Fine. I will, but only until my authorities make contact with me once again." Before she could finish speaking, you smiled brightly at her.
"But I'm leaving as soon as Yellow Diamond answers me! You hear me!? I-I don't need you! I'm choosing to use you!" As Peridot tried to keep her tough look up, you simply smiled. You knew what she was trying to do. You knew that she was actually happy you offered. It was easy to see it in her face when she tried to hide her embarrassment away from your eyes.

You spoke up once again. "That's okay. you can leave when you want. I just honestly wouldn't be able to forgive myself if i left you to sleep in a box." You lead the way out of the back doors and to the sidewalk, leading the way home.
The entire walk home, Peridot gave excused and reasons as to why she only agreed because she felt like it, not because you asked. You simply stated "Okay, I believe you Peri." As you nodded your head.
"Do not simplify my name with your human terms, you clod!" You chucked at her way of speech as you unlocked the door with your keys. "It's just a nickname, Peri." You purposefully used her nickname once more. She simply huffed at that and absentmindedly pulled at the sides of your jean jacket that was on her shoulders still.
When you opened the door, you walked inside and looked behind you to see her. She stepped in cautiously, as if it wasn't a house she had already broke into.
You stepped behind her to close the door, and silently watched her look around the house from her standing spot. She seemed to be curious, her body language almost screaming to touch things and figure them out. 'It's like watching a new pet inspect a home.' You chuckled at the thought.
You broke the silence with a question. "Are you hungry about now? I'm sure you haven't had anything to eat sense you left my home last night, and you wouldn't eat at the Big Donut."
She was busy looking in a mirror, gazing at it as if it was magic. She then looked behind her to answer you. "What is with you humans and this 'hunger'?"
"Wait, you don't eat?" You stopped there in your thoughts. How can this be? She really must be some sort of other species if she doesn't eat anything.
"You mean the act of putting things into your mouth? Why would I? That's stupid!" Her face was contorted in confusion and annoyance.
You simply murmured to yourself. "This is going to be one weird roommate experience."
