Saiki, Asher, and the rest of their group are third years, and soon-to-be high school graduates. Like, in a few hours, soon.
Asher was so excited, along with everyone else. He wouldn't have to wake up and go somewhere that taught the most uninteresting, simplest things to them. He would have more free time, and that meant more time with Saiki! Graduating is the gateway to his heaven.
The third years had been told to arrive at the school at least an hour prior to the ceremony. Due to the excitement, Asher woke up almost three hours early.
He got himself and got ready, standing in the shower until he was pruned, fixing his hair, adding a touch of cologne and topping it off with the gown and hat he was given by his mother. She said it was his father's, so of course he had to wear it.
He walked downstairs, seeing his mom cooking in the kitchen. He glanced off to the side before walking in. "Morning, mom."
She turned to him, "G'morning, Ash." She took a good look at him, then looked to the stove once again. "You look so much like your father.."
Asher hummed softly, sitting down at the table. "I.. wish he were here to see me."
"I'm sure he's watching from wherever he is," his mother sighed, plating their food and bringing it to the table. "Eat well, this is your big day. My baby's graduating!.."
The brunette groaned. Instead of complaining to her, he just stuffed his mouth with food.
"Oh," he hurriedly swallowed the big bite of food in his mouth, "You'll.. be able to make it today, right?"
"Of course!" She shouted, a frown in, what seemed to be, disbelief. "How could I miss my son's graduation? I could never.."

He shrugged, "I just know you get really busy, so I wasn't sure."
"Oh no, Kei was able to help me get time off of work."
"Kei?" he questioned.
She gasped, "Right- that woman you saw a few days ago, that's Kaidou Kei. She works at the same place I do. She's really tough, but I know she has good intentions."
"Mom..."
"Oh! You should hurry off, now. You're supposed to be at school an hour early right? Go, now."
He quickly stood from his seat, taking a few more bites of his food before waving his mom off. "Alright, see you later!" He shouted, face full of food.
He got to school in about 10 minutes, since he attempted to jog all of his energy off. It didn't do much, but it's fine.
He found his way to the auditorium, which is where the ceremony would be held, and stood backstage. There were so many people.. he didn't know any third years except the ones from his class. Almost the entire backstage was filled to the brim.
There were many teachers finding certain classes and sending them off to another area until it was their turn. From what he heard, he assumed his class would be going first.
So, he made his way over to Saiki, who was pretty easy to find. He was standing with Aren, Kaidou, Nendou, Hairou, Teruhashi, Chiyo, Mera, Aiyura, and Saiko. The entire "squad", basically.
"Kusuo.." he hummed, approaching him from behind. "Did you make altercations to your hat?" He took note of the little clips sticking out the top of the hat.
He remember that Saiki had chosen to still take away his powers, which was a little saddening but he supported Saiki. Besides, it was nice to look at him without his glasses for once.

However, it seems the clip only worked for a short amount of time, because after Asher saw him the next day after school, he was wearing a random pair of glasses and he look very agitated. Seems he still had his powers in the end.
Asher shook his head. 'Enough reminiscing.'
"My mom did it for me," Saiki didn't even look to Asher.
The brunette moved to stand beside Saiki, secretly grabbing his hand. "Your hand's sweaty. Already getting warm?"
Saiki sighed, "You know I can regulate my own body temperature."
"Then-"
"It's nothing," he cut Asher off rather quickly. The brunette felt worried, but said nothing for now.
After waiting for an hour, the graduation finally started. The principal and other teachers/staff said their speeches before calling out the third years, handing them their diplomas and shaking their hand before dismissing them.
Asher could almost instantly spot his mother in the crowd as he went up, seeing her crying into the shoulder of another woman (who looked confused on what to do). He laughed quietly and walked off stage to Saiki, who was standing with his parents.
"Ku, I can't believe you're graduating!!"
"My sons are growing up too fast..!"
The two parents cried in each other's arms, and Saiki just stared in annoyance.
Asher chuckled, approaching them, "Hi Mrs. Saiki, Mr. Saiki."
Saiki's mom stopped crying to pay attention to Asher, "Asher, dear! Congrats on graduating. My two boys graduating.." and she was back to crying again.
Saiki sighed, taking Asher's hand and walking away.
"Where are we going?"
"Let's just wait outside."
The two of them stood in front of the school building. Asher noticed the tight grip on his hand, and the slight tremble he felt from Saiki.
"Are you okay?" he questioned.
"I'm fine."
The brunette huffed. "We're dating now, you don't have to be afraid to tell me anything."
Saiki stayed silent, his eyes gazing to the ground.
"Is it.. about the graduation?"
Saiki shrugged, "I.. I don't want this to be over yet. We spent most of our time together because we were still in high school. What if we aren't able to do that anymore because we want to do different things. It's okay, but.. we haven't had a lot of time together. I'm not ready to let go."
Asher squeezed Saiki's hand. "Since when have you been so unrealistic?"
"Huh?"
"First, isn't a year quite a while? I think it's an achievement, especially for your first relationship. But, besides that, I would do whatever it takes to stay with you. I thought you knew that? We can always work things out."
Saiki's face was scrunched together, and it was flaring back and forth from its normal color to a light red.
"Whatever."
"You're so cute, Kusuo. And we'll get a small apartment, and I'll bring Saiku with me. Maybe we can get another pet, too.."
"Ugh.."
"It'll be you and me against the world, Kusuo!!"
"Shut up!.."
-------------------------------------
+ Saiki only uses his, like, speech through telepathy when he's in public and/or talking with people besides Asher

A Standard Model of Magic
The world ended, and magic came back. The part our parents didn't expect, was for Science to break on reentry. Twenty years after the apocalypse, with our nations dismantled and hidden continents unearthed, a new generation has grown up in the wreckage of 21st century civilization. For us, the fantastic is at our doorstep and we have had no choice but to fight back. Meanwhile, the laws of nature bend and break at the whims of immortal gods, all of which are now dead and none of which are content to stay that way. But we cannot afford to give up. We are the stewards of a rewritten century, in which a little luck and a whole lot of magic might make anything possible – maybe even a world better than the one we lost. A Standard Model of Magic is a complete overhaul of my old story A Storm in the Fall. I'm afraid I was unhappy with the LitRPG elements, which I don't mind reading, but I apparently loath writing. Sorry. Once I'd made the choice to decouple the story from the OF that inspired it and reconfigure the magic system to my satisfaction, little of the original plotline survived. I will be salvaging most of my original characters, and I will keep some elements which are endemic to the genre, but that is all. I don't have an update schedule which I can commit to yet, but I will try to maintain a weekly pace.(This is currently RoyalRoad exclusive, since I'm lazy. If you find it posted elsewhere, it wasn't me and it wasn't with permission) If you're interested, I've set up a discord.
