《Charming Through the Lines》~Chapter 3~

I am freaking the fuck out.
I have to leave in 20 minutes for my little study session with Matthew, and I am absolutely terrified. Hailee, and my other best friend, Bri, have been rummaging through my closet, shaking their heads at all my clothing.
"Ari, do you really not have any black dresses? Navy blue? Anything other than old grandma sweaters?" Brielle shouted from in my closet. Brielle is majoring in fashion design, so she thinks it's her job to make us all look like a million bucks. I wish I looked as good as her. Her beautiful long, toned legs, small waist, and beautiful golden locks that look highlighted, but are really natural.
"I'm sorry Ms. Fashion Expert, I haven't gone shopping in a while," I reply with a hint of sarcasm. Brielle scoffs and moves to Hailee's closet. Hailee gets up and follows as they start digging through her closet.
10 minutes later, I'm thrown in a forest green dress that hugs my body more than what I'm used to, along with a pair of white Nike Airforces. Hailee powdered my face in a light makeup look, bringing out my faded freckles and tanned skin.
I look in the mirror and honestly, I don't think I've ever looked this good since high school graduation. The dress is a little short, reaching slightly above mid-thigh, and has a low square cut on the chest area, showing a good amount of cleavage.
I throw on a black zip-up hoodie but decided to keep it unzipped, grab my car keys and head out. Matthew texted me his address last night and said that his roommates will be over and hopes I don't mind. I told him it's fine, as long as they don't get in our way.
A few minutes later, I arrive at an apartment complex and make my way into the building. I decide to take the stairs instead of the elevator. I am NOT getting stuck in that bitch tonight, especially not with a creepy middle-aged man.

I reach the 3rd floor and find the apartment number, I knock twice and wait. I hear loud footsteps approaching and a few muffled yells. The door swings open and I am face to face with Mr. Captain himself. Please tell me this dude doesn't live here.
"Hey princess, Matthew's coming down," He says through a grin. Is he really trying to flirt with me when I'm here for his friend? I can't help how my cheeks heat up when he called me princess.
"I have a name you know," Leo shook his head as a low chuckle escaped his mouth.
"It's more fun annoying you though," I narrowed my eyes at him as he kept laughing. God damn that laugh is attractive. Shut up it's the hormones. Stupid hormones.
"Whatever, move out of my way I need to see Matthew," Leo rolled his eyes as he stepped aside. I smirk as I walk past him, flicking my hair to hit his face, well, chest. I see Matthew at the stairs, he shoots me a smile and signals me to follow him. I nod my head and follow him up the stairs, but I can still feel Leo's gaze burning the back of my head as I walk away.
We reach Matthew's room and he opens the door, letting me walk in first. What a gentleman. He keeps the door slightly cracked open as he walks to his desk.
"You can sit on the bed, it's probably more comfortable," He offers as he goes to take a seat at his desk.
"Why don't you join me? You don't have to sit so far from me, I won't bite I promise," I joke as he lets out a little chuckle. He gets up and walks over to the bed, his textbook and note journal tucked under his arm. I take off my shoes and set them next to the bed, and kick my feet up, making myself comfortable.

He's much closer to me now, giving me the opportunity to take a good look at his features. His nose and cheeks are filled with light freckles, and his dark brown hair is slightly wavy and falls in front of his face as he looks down at his book. Oh, not to mention he has blue light glasses on. How more adorable can this guy get? His head tilts up, his eyes finally meeting mine. His cheeks turn to a light shade of pink as he drops his head back down, eyes focused on the book.
"You seem nervous, are you okay?" I ask. He looks back up, his eyebrows furrowing as he tries to think of an answer. He's cute when he's thinking.
"You're staring shocked me a bit that's all," He replies softly, "I'm not used to girls looking at me. Especially not pretty ones."
Is this guy serious? He's so freaking adorable how could a girl NOT drop to her knees for him, "You're very good-looking Matthew, I thought you'd be used to the stares by now," He smiles lightly, making me grin back at him. We decide to start studying, talking about famous painters and which painting we could each recreate.

I lose track of time as we finally finish up, holy shit, it's 11:30 p.m, "Matthew, we've been studying for 4 hours."
"Oh shit," He says through a yawn, "I'm sorry I guess we got carried away," I nod my head as I yawn, not once, not twice, but three times. Yeah, I'm that tired.
"You can stay the night i-if you want," His little stutter made me smile. I like how nervous I make him.
"If that's okay with you, I'd be happy to stay. I don't think I'd be able to stay awake driving," I reply, standing up from the bed to stretch my body. Matthew gets up from the bed and walks over to his drawers. He pulls out a T-shirt that says "Harvard Hockey" written across, and a pair of sweat pants.
"You can change in the bathroom, it's a few doors down, it should be open if nobody's in there," I thank him and walk out the door.
What has gotten into me?

Humanity Extinguished
I had the same nightmare again. The loss of my first life continues to haunt me, but now it aches like an old wound. A more grievous injury to my psyche was the losses yet to come and the inevitable hellscape I would return to again and again. Reincarnation is my curse. The lives themselves weren't all that bad. Losing people you cared about hurt and all, but even that pain was preferable to experiencing the nothingness between lives for months at a time. It was enough to drive anyone mad. Now I have to focus on breaking this horrible cycle. Thankfully I have all the time in the world. Trace is an average man driven by extraordinary circumstances in an indifferent and cruel world. His reincarnations give him a few key advantages but also take a heavy toll on him. He lives in a world where magic is uncommon and underpowered compared to the limitless physical adaptations you can acquire by getting your hands a little bloody. This story is one of hardship and terrible lows, but also monumental achievements and grand heights. The main character has flaws. While some of these flaws will fade with time, others will worsen. Thank you for taking the time to read my synopsis. I plan to release 2-3 chapters a week.
