"Dr. Maggie. I have a patient who's here for an appointment",I said peeking in her office.

"Appointment for what?",she answered without even looking up at me from her computer.

"She said she has to get her wisdom tooth pulled."

"I don't remember having an appointment with anybody at this time. Let me check",she said typing away on her computer.

"Oh yea is her name Kendra?"

"Yes Kendra Mason",I said reading it from the clipboard I had in my hand.

"Okay. Tell her to have a seat in the waiting area and we'll call her back. After that I need you to type up this patient's history on the computer",she said handing me a thick folder.

"I don't think I'll get that done by the time I leave Dr. Maggie. I leave in 15 minutes",I told her. She looked at me and pulled her glasses down on her nose to look at me.

"You got a date?",she asked me.

"No."

"You have school?"

"No."

"Okay then you can do a little over time today and get these files in the computer for me. Dentistry as all about long hours Hun. No one ever leaves on time here unless your the janitor",she said.

"Yes ma'am",I mumbled and left her office. Being a dental assistant wasn't my ideal job but it was what I needed to get some experience to become a dentist. So I sucked it up and always did what she asked of me. All this week I've been putting in long hours. Staying past closing hours to help Dr. Maggie with anything she needed but this one day she couldn't grant me to leave on time which wasn't cool.

"Ms. Mason. You can have a seat in here and the Doctor will call you when she's ready",I said plastering a smile on my face.

"Thank you so much",Ms. Mason said. She was a older lady with young energy I could tell. I went back to my office and sat in my chair. I took my phone out and decided to call Tiago because I knew we was supposed to go out on a date night tonight but thanks to my job, I had to cancel on him last minute.

"Hey babe",I said once he answered.

"Hey babygirl what's goin on?"

"Uhm apparently work. I won't be able to make it today."

"Why? Want me to come up there and talk to your boss?",he said.

"No please no. You gonna cost me my job",I said laughing.

"Ight now. You know I don't mind pullin up",he said laughing too.

"I know you don't. Can we reschedule for another night?"

"Yeah no problem bae. I'm finishing up work now too. I'll check up on the restaurant and then I'll be chillin at the house. Let me know when you get out so I could pick you up."

"Okay thank you babe. I know I owe you gas money for all this."

"Baby stop it. You know I got you."

"Alright I gotta go. I'll call you. Love you",I said hanging up. Santiago was the sweetest I swear. My house and my job was 45 mins away from each other and then his house was 20 mins from my house. That's a lot of going back and forth but I guess he saw I was worth it. I logged into my computer and began to type. Took me a couple hours. After I got done typing the patient info into the system, I shut down the computer and packed my things ready to go. I went into the locker room/break room and grabbed my lunch bag and purse out of the locker. I texted Santiago that I'm ready and waited for him in the lobby. I'll be able to see him pull up in his black car.

"You typed up those files I asked you to?",Dr. Maggie said with her purse in hand.

"Yes ma'am",I said. Lord knows she got on my nerves.

She took a seat next to me and it was just awkward silence between us. No one was here except for the janitor, her and I.

"I'm only hard on you because my instructor was hard on me which shaped me to be the best dentist in town",she said proudly. Cocky much? But she really was the best dentist in town, that's why I'm always on my P's and Q's when it comes to her. I like to shadow everything about her except her attitude.

"I know",I said.

"I see your passion for dentistry. I see how you interact with our clients and they give a good report about you."

"Really?",I said smiling.

"Yes keep up the good work. I think you'll be a great dentist in the near future."

"Thank you",I said. Just then I saw tiago pull up in the rain. I said goodbye to my boss and she left right behind me. Santiago got out and open the door for me to get in and I did but I still got wet in the rain. I'm definitely gonna have to blow dry my hair later.

Santiago turned the volume of the music down and drove.

"Hey",he said looking at me when we reached a red light.

"Hey. Sorry."

"It's cool. I'm guessing I know how work was since your out of it right now",he said.

"Yea definitely am. I was supposed to leave at 5. She kept me here until 9."

"Yeah I see. It'll soon be over once you get that degree though."

"Yeah I got a couple more years to go."

"You got it. I believe in you just hang in there."

"Thanks babe",I said. We had a long ride until getting to my house so I just decided to fall asleep in the car. When Santiago pulled up to my house, I woke up and gathered my things together. I saw a familiar suv parked out front of my house but paid it no mind. I opened the car door and Santiago said, "you want me to walk you in?"

"No I'm fine. Thank you again babe. Call you in the morning?"

"Yea I'll call you",he said and we kissed. I unlocked the door and dropped my things in front of the door once I saw who was in my living room.

"Hello to you too babygirl",my father said.

"He-ey. Your out",I said don't know whether to be happy or scared.

"I told you I was gonna come see you",he said pulling me into a hug gripping my waist.

"Yea I didn't know this soon. What a surprise?",I said.

"You look real nice. Look at you turning into a young lady."

"Thanks",I said blushing and detaching myself from his embrace.

"Where's mom? She knows your here?",I said looking around.

"Yeah she's in the kitchen cooking us something to eat."

"Oh okay",I said feeling better.

"Hey honey. How was work?",my mom said stiring the pot of boiling rice.

"It was cool. Can I talk to you for a minute?",I said pulling her away from the stove.

"Sure let me cover this up",she said putting a lid on the pot.

"What is he doing here?",I asked her.

"Who? Ya father? He just wanted to come see you. He ain't no kin to me."

"We could've FaceTime each other."

"Now you know ya father don't know nothing about no FaceTiming child",my mom said cracking up.

"I'm just not comfortable with him being here."

"Why?",she asked. Just then I had flashbacks of when my father used to molest me in the tub when I was 5 when my mom would be at work.

"No reason",I said. Til this day I've never told her anything because of my fear that she won't even believe me. I was fine when my dad was locked up, I knew he would be far from me and won't be able to know where I lived but now it's a whole different story.

"Come over here and help me set the table up for dinner",she said.

"I'm not hungry but I'll help",I said taking the set of plates and setting the table for two because I wasn't going to join them. I walked past my father and went upstairs to my room to take a shower. I spent like 45 minutes before coming out with my wet hair. I wiped myself with my towel and applied suave lotion to my body. When I open the door to my bathroom to go to my room, I found my father in my room quietly staring at the tv.
