《LACUNA ✰ BNHA》31: THE PRACTICAL EXAM

In which [Name] ALMOST fails her practical exam.
_______
teenagers. In front of them stood many pro hero teachers.
"We're starting the practical exam, you little shits." Aizawa grunted, glaring each one of them down. "It's possible to fail this, so don't make idiotic mistakes if you want to go to the training camp. Now, I expect you've gathered information already-"
"WE'RE FIGHTING ROBOTS, RIGHT?!" Kaminari and Mina screamed excitedly. Aizawa's scarf ruffled a bit, and [Name] nearly had a heart attack when a white mouse popped out.
"Too bad! For various reasons, the exam will be different this year!" Nezu cried as Aizawa emotionlessly looked on.
'I want to climb into his scarf....' [Name] thought sourly. 'No homo tho.'
"You're forming in teams of two to fight against the teachers!" Nezu said. It was safe to say nearly everyone metaphorically shid their pants right then and there.
"The pairs have been determined by weakness, strengths, grades, relationships, fighting style, and other factors. So here are the teams." Aizawa said.
"Todoroki and Yaoyorozu.... Against me." Aizawa said darkly.
"Oh thank Jesus!" [Name] breathed out. "If I was up against him he'd beat my ass for feeding the cats 47 chicken mcnuggets last night."
"Y-you fed your cats 47 chicken mcnugg-"
"Midoriya and Bakugo against All Might!" Aizawa called, interrupting the intimidated green haired boy.
"Aoyama and Aizawa against Thirteen."
[Name] breathed in nervously and gave a semi-confident smile towards Aoyama, to which he grinned and shot some finger guns back. As she left the area, [Name] looked around to see Kirishima standing nearby, about to enter the battlefield.
"HEY KIRI! GOOD LUCK!" [Name] called at him, grinning. The redhead turned around and widened his eyes.
"T-Thanks [Name]!" And then, more confidently, he grinned with a pink blush across his cheeks. "I'll kick ass for you!"
[Name] smiled to herself as she entered the monitor room behind Izuku, but her grin immediately disappeared upon entering. What was wrong with her heart? Her thoughts? Why did she feel so bubbly and happy around Kirishima? Not only him, but around Bakugo, around Kaminari, around Todoroki, around Midoriya?

This was the first step of her self-awareness, and it could only go downhill from here. She tried to put her mind off it.
"So we have to capture the teacher or escape... That's kind of like combat training." [Name] muttered under her breath. Izuku gave her a sideways glance for a few seconds.
"Hey, were you able to talk to Bakugo about your strategy?" The (h/c) haired girl suddenly asked, snapping her head towards his green eyes. Upon being caught staring, Izuku became flustered.
"No, he just walked away. and ignored me." The green haired boy mumbled. [Name] smiled sympathetically at her friend and gave him a little sideways hug.
"Don't worry, he's probably just mad because his mom found his pee drawer or something. Relatable."
"What's a pee drawer and how is that relata-"
"It's okay Izu! I believe in you!"
"T-Thanks [Name]! You too!" Izuku blushed, his face getting hotter and redder by the second. Of course, [Name] was too dense to notice.
"My wig? Has anyone seen my wig?" Recovery girl sighed quietly under her breath, surprised that somebody could be this oblivious.
As time went on, Kirishima and Sato were eventually pushed into a corner.
"Shit, he looks hurt!" [Name] mumbled with worry as she saw Kirishima's bleeding and bruised hands. He was out of stamina as well. The fight went on four a couple more minutes before the two were completely unconscious.
"My little cinnamon roll..." [Name] said with a sad 'uwu' on her face as she watched Kirishima being carried to the clinic.
_______
"MY MAN AOYAMA ON THE LEDGE AND SHIT!" [Name] cackled before realizing with horror that she was also on the ledge and shit.
Their match had started good, but somewhere along the line, the two had fucked up majorly. Now here they were, holding onto a metal beam while being succed towards Thirteen's black hole finger thing harder than Aoyama sucked his own pp.
"We were so close!" [Name] whined, screaming over the noise of the black hole. Aoyama looked as fabulous as ever in the intense wind while [Name] looked like she just got out of rehab for snorting cocaine.

"Oh, I won't let you get away!" Thirteen said.
Come on! I have to think! Damn it, what would my friends do at a time like this?
"Hey, [Name]..."
"Not now!" [Name] yelled back, desperately trying to think of something.
"Right now, you were just thinking about what Midoriya would do, right? Or Kirishima, or Todoroki, or Bakugo? Probably not Kaminari because he's stupid. Do you... Have a crush on one of them?"
[Name] turned towards Aoyama, not expecting those words, and blushed a million different shades of red, letting go of the metal beam in surprise.
As she flew (ass first) and a million miles per hour into Thirteen's face, the pro hero shut his quirk off in slight surprise and got ready to engage in combat with the female.
"Focus is the most important. You can't beat an enemy if you're mind is all over the place."
Kyouki had told her those words while she was training with him, and she had to put them to use. Narrowing her eyes, the female focused on gathering plasma energy at her feet and using it to kick Thirteen straight in the face. The hero tried to retaliate, but within seconds, Aoyama was at her side, holding Thirteen down.
Putting handcuffs on the hero, [Name] jumped up and hugged Aoyama tightly, squealing so high pitched that even Presentation Michael had the urge to jump off a cliff. She then pulled away from the blonde and smirked.
"About what you said earlier, French Fry... I only make sandwiches for myself."
However, she couldn't stop thinking about those words all day.
_______
"Congratulations on passing!" Iida said formally as [Name] walked back into the monitor room.
"Thank you! You too!" She smiled, a little tired out.
"[Name]... When you were fighting against Thirteen, what were you and Aoyama talking about?" Tsuyu asked. The (h/c) haired girl recalled the scene and blushed a little.
"It's nothing important," She huffed.
"Midoriya and Bakugo, please come to the arena." The loudspeaker said. [Name] turned to Izuku, more blushy than normal. What was wrong with her? She usually was immune to romantic jokes like that, but today...
"Good luck Izu! Do your best!" [Name] fist pumped, and Midoriya stared at her for a second before engulfing her in a large, warm hug.
"Thank you [Name]! I will!" He exclaimed, running off to the match.
Kaminari and Mina walked in, beaten up and scratched but mostly fine. [Name] turned to the two.
"Hey! I didn't see you guys earlier, but you did great and that's all that matters!" [Name] said, referring to how the two failed the exam along with a few others.
Kaminari walked closer and ruffled her hair while Mina put an arm around her shoulders.
"Thanks [Name], you really know how to lighten the mood!" They both talked for a while, [Name]'s eyes glued to the monitor.
In the end, Bakugo and Midoriya passed, and beautifully. They had been able to work together, and Izuku's true nature of helping others was brought out. [Name] excitedly jumped up and down, holding hands with Kaminari and Mina as all the matches were complete.
"She seems likeable... And by a lot of people..." Recovery Girl said under her breath, sipping her tea.

Contact First
2039 - Earth A narrow beam energy signal appeared aimed squarely at earth from the TRAPPIST system. The communication consisted of a layered set of repeating data over several thousand wavelengths. Over the next few months scientists discovered that the lower wavelengths carried an encoded numerical language which could then be used to interpret the more complicated messages carried on the higher wavelengths. After half a year of painstaking work the signal was fully decoded. It described a small satellite launched along a precise trajectory towards the fourth planet of our solar system. Included was a package of advanced research that humanity would need to have ready in order to receive the satellite and decelerate it safely. The alien data provided the kick that humanity needed to turn from petty squabbling and unite to explore the final frontier. Major government and corporate leaders worked together to create the framework for the United Federation of Sol. UFS spaceports went from scaffolding to daily launches in every major city around the globe. Ships floated like dandelion seeds, spreading on solar wind to grow into colonies. 2397 - Mars orbit, Egeria Station The command center was a hive of activity as checks were conducted and systems initialized. Scientists flitted by like mayflies as communicators beeped and holoscreens spat out green tinted readouts. Nervous energy was thick in the air as everyone anticipated the culmination of over three hundred years of work. Massive fusion reactors under the planet's surface thrummed with barely restrained power as energy fed into a gleaming metallic maze criss crossing the planet. Metal fingers reached up, overshadowing the mighty olympus mons and trying to grab the stars. All over the solar system, people quickly turned to look as gigantic energy lances shot from the dusty fourth planet. Two years later. The same people that clapped loudly at the successful activation of project Hermes now wait with baited breath. A silver capsule trailing bright photonic sails is captured by a net of grav beams and guided with care bordering on reverence into the station. Holoscreens across the headquarters project an image of the sleek craft settling in the bay. Data connections are established and the holoscreens blink to white. Slowly an image forms on the screen. Across the headquarters people stare in wonder as a wholly alien face stares back. "Contact established. Welcome to the universe."
