《I Only Want One》Chapter 11

The next few days I mind my own business, keep to myself a little bit. Jude is strangely absent at the times I figured he would be around the house. Meal times and in the evenings. Which is a shame because he is definitely the better cook of the three of us. Eli said he was staying busy in the pack, trying to give me space. I appreciated it, but I also missed him. Which was a frustrating set of emotions to deal with. I still sleep in Eli's bed at night, even though he complains about how hot it is without his precious window open. My wolf begs me nearly every night for her other mate, but the hurt she feels is enough to override the need to be close to him. If I could scrub the images of Jude and Corinne from my mind, I would.
I stick to training with Eli, Sean and my dad. Jude runs the regular training and from what I've heard Corinne hasn't caused any more issues. I haven't seen her since that day, not that I've gone looking for her. On the third day I decide to visit my friend Jenna, Corinne's little sister, since I haven't really gotten to see her since I've been back.
"How are you still not marked?" She asks with a coy smile when she opens the door. I roll my eyes and pull her into a tight hug.
"I guess I just have mates that respect me." I say with a shrug and wide smile making her laugh.
"Hell yeah you do. Have you heard about Corinne?" She asks and I roll my eyes again.
"I think I've heard enough about and from Corinne to last me a lifetime." I say exasperated and Jenna smiles wickedly, her eyes twinkling with the signature mischief that drew me to her in the first place.
"Then you'll love this. Jude is sending her away. Kicking her out of the pack." She says and I gasp, my eyes widening in shock.
"What?" I ask incredulously and Jenna nods.
"Yeah. I'm surprised he hasn't told you. After her outburst at training the other day he's sending her to other packs, hoping she finds her mate." She says and I gawk at her, not sure how to respond.
"How do your parents feel about this?" I ask and Jenna shrugs.

"They don't really care, honestly. They agree with Jude. Her mate is obviously not in this pack and with the way she's been acting lately, sneaking around and making up lies, they don't blame him for kicking her out." She says and I nod.
"How does she feel about it?" I ask and Jenna snorts before tilting her head back to laugh.
"She is pissed!" She exclaims with an evil cackle. "She thinks it's a bunch of bullshit, but can you really blame Jude? That shit she was spewing the other day? Ugh, gross. Like Jude would ever stoop so low as to sleep with her. She just sounded pathetic." She says and I nod again, deep in thought.
"When is this happening?" I ask.
"Tomorrow. She leaves right away in the morning." Jenna says with a giddy smile. "She's at the packhouse right now with Jude getting instructions on where to go." She says and my hackles rise hearing that she's with Jude. I unmask my bond with him, but all I feel is agitation from him.
"I hate to leave so soon, but I want to talk to him before he makes this decision. I'm gonna run over there quick." I say and Jenna looks at me confused.
"Really? Don't you want her to leave?" She asks and I huff out a laugh.
"Hell yes. But I don't want Jude doing things like this for the wrong reasons. I want to make sure he's growing into a good Alpha, not doing shit like this because it's easier than dealing with things." I say and she nods in understanding.
"Yeah, sure. Go. We can catch up later." She says and I hug her again.
"Tomorrow." I say firmly and she smiles.
"Tomorrow." She says and I leave, heading towards the packhouse.
It's a quick walk, but my teeth are chattering by the time I get there. The weather cooled down fast and I begin to shiver as I push my way into Jude's office. His scent surrounds me, my wolf whining at the smell of the mate she is craving. Jude's eyes pop up to mine, then widen in surprise. Corinne turns around in the chair she's sitting in, pure anger etched in every line on her face.
"Natalie? What are you doing here?" Jude asks, standing and walking towards me. He sees my shivering and wraps his arms around me. "You're freezing, Sunshine." He murmurs and I relax in his hold, his hands warming me up.

"I wanted to make sure you weren't doing something stupid." I say and Corinne snorts, making me narrow my eyes at her.
"What do you mean?" Jude asks and I sigh, taking a step back from him.
"Why are you sending her away?" I ask and he shrugs.
"Because I thought it would be better. Easier for you." He says and I shake my head.
"You can't do that, Jude. You can't just send someone away because of the shitty choices you made. You have to deal with them." I say firmly and Jude huffs out an annoyed breath.
"What do you want from me, Nat?" He asks.
"I want you to take responsibility for your actions. Not just try to pretend they don't exist." I say, turning to Corinne. "Do you want to leave?" I ask her.
"No." She answers.
"Then that's it. Unless she wants to leave, don't force her." I say to Jude and he sighs before nodding his head.
"Fine. If that's what you want." He says and I huff out a humorless laugh.
"There are a lot of things I want, Jude. I wouldn't say her in our pack is at the top of my list." I say, turning to leave the room. As I walk down the steps of the packhouse I hear Corinne following me down the stairs. I turn to glare at her before continuing on my way.
"How does it feel, Natalie?" She asks and anger instantly wells in my gut.
"How does what feel, Corinne?" I spit at her, stopping to square up with her. She gets a mean little grin on her face, crossing her arms over her chest.
"Knowing I was his first. That you'll never have that. He has a nice dick though. Just the right size to hit all those special places." She says and black spots my vision as my wolf tries to force a shift, but I hold her back. "How did it feel to walk in on me on top of him, him just about to finish inside of me?" She murmurs as Jude exits the packhouse and sees us, about ready to attack Corinne, but I hold my hand up to stop him.
I smile at Corinne and her bravado falters. I begin to walk a slow circle around her, like a predator does their prey. She watches me warily as Jude looks confused.
"You know what they say about mates of twins, Corinne?" I ask, my voice dripping with false sweetness. Her brow furrows in annoying confusion before she shakes her head.
"That they're gifted wolves? That's just a myth." She says firmly and I giggle a little.
"Is it?" I ask, my eyes flicking to Jude. I can feel his confusion barreling off of him in waves and it feels almost as good as what I'm about to do.
"Yes. It is." She says and I laugh again.
"What if I told you it isn't? What if I told you that I was mated to twins because I'm a wolf with special powers. One that needs the protection of two Alpha males?" I ask, still walking around her. She lets out a little growl, scowling at me.
"I wouldn't believe you." She hisses.
"Like how the pack doesn't believe that Jude would sleep with you? Because you're disgusting and pathetic?" I ask and she snarls at me again.
"I will kill you." She breathes low and Jude goes to intervene, but I pin him to the spot with a firm glare.
"You can't." I say simply and she barks out a laugh.
"Wanna try me?" She asks and I smile at her again.
"Have you ever heard of an empath?" I ask and she gets a confused look on her face again.
"So what? You can feel people's emotions?" She asks and I laugh again, shaking my head.
"No. The opposite actually. I can make them feel my feelings." I say and her eyes widen in shock and then disbelief as Jude stands quietly, listening to every word I'm saying.
"So, you want to know how it felt to walk in on you and Jude?" I ask, my mouth curling into a wicked grin. "How about I show you?"

The Kodoku Game
In Japanese folklore, there once existed an ancient technique among alchemists for harvesting the strongest poison known to man. A poison so vicious, so horrendous, that a single drop could incapacitate an entire nation of humans, several times over. A poison so intense that a single drop could turn the tides of a war on its head. As potent as it appeared however, this poison could be harvested from the blood of a single insect alone- an insect the alchemist’s called the ‘Kodoku’. As lucrative as was attaining this poison however, the problem lied in identifying this insect- its appearance, shape and size changed from region to region and from continent to continent. Sometimes it took the appearance of a ladybug and other times a horned-beetle. In order to determine the identity of this special insect the alchemists came up with an ingenious method. They created an impregnable jar of clay out of the best sandstone they could find and placed hundreds of different insects into the same jar. The jar was made with such great mastery that it allowed no insects to escape and allowed no objects to enter. The laws of nature dictated that the insects would remain together in the jar forever. However, it turned out that as time went on, the insects’ hunger for food and power caused them to turn against each other- one insect ate another until only one remained. This sole insect contained a poison that far surpassed that of all the others and became stronger as it ate more and more insects. The alchemists at this point had succeeded in identifying the Kodoku and could extract it’s poison as long as they continued to feed it regularly. Although this folklore ends here, the actual story does not. One day, as the alchemists cheered in joy of having identified the Kodoku they so eagerly wanted, they forgot to close the lid on the very jar that was considered to be completely impregnable. This small gap was just large enough for the Kodoku inside to crawl out. Famished from not having been fed for weeks, the Kodoku ended up eating the very alchemists that nourished its growth until not even the bones remained. Yet, the Kodoku’s hunger didn’t seem to subside in the slightest. So it traveled to the next village and began eating whatever it could find there. Its poison made it unparalleled in strength and slowly but surely it began to dwindle down the population of the entire city. Yet its hunger only continued to grow. So it traveled to the next city over and ate all it could there. Very soon, the Kodoku couldn’t find any more food to eat. There was no one left to eat and no one left to spectate. So it stood there, by itself pondering what possibly was left to eat that could satiate its hunger. But there was one thing left that Kodoku realized it had never eaten. Itself.
