《Your Guide to Writing the Perfect Story》Means of Improvement
Advertisement
I've probably confused a few of you with the title of this chapter. You must be wondering what other means of improvement could be. Because wasn't that the point of this story? To help you improve your writing skills?
Why, yes, but there's more to it than that. I may have fooled you into thinking that I know a lot about writing. And maybe I do know more about writing than the average Wattpad user, but that doesn't mean I know everything. Other people will have unique opinions and ideas that don't necessarily match up with my own. Yes, I do believe in what has been written in this book; it's my opinion. However, that doesn't mean that you can't think something different. Which is why I have this chapter. I encourage you to find improvement in places other than from me (although this is definitely a good starting point). I'll list some places for you.
You're reading one. There are thousands out there. Just scroll through the non-fiction discover page and you'll see. I highly suggest that you commit some more time to reading many of them. Some are actually pretty fascinating. Also, there are many published writing guides out there for you to read. Those may be the best ones to look at if you are really dedicated because they will be from published authors who know what they are talking about. The only problem with them is that they tend to ramble instead of getting straight to the point. However, their points are usually very good and they can be very entertaining reads due to their expertise.
If you need help on a certain element of a story, there are millions of websites out there that can help you with writing. Try different searches and sort through all of the articles. Eventually you will find something to help you out with what you need. Admittedly, this might not be the most efficient way to find the information you want, but the guides on Wattpad may not have the specific information you need. However, if you have a question, just know that I would love to answer it to the best of my ability and I usually reply pretty frequently.

I can't express enough what a wonderful tool for new writers this is! I once used to spend lots of time on this club, back when I was new to Wattpad. If you need help with an opening sentence, character development, blurbs, or anything else you can always look through the threads or create your own. If you have certain questions, ask them and you will hopefully get a reply fairly quickly. Or, better yet, you may even find a thread with someone asking the same thing where they already have responses. I highly recommend visiting this club every now and then and participate in some of the threads.
A basic way to improve your writing would be to find critics and editors. It's always good to have a proofreader, but the critics are the really helpful ones. It's pretty easy to find unreliable or bad critics, though, so I've decided I will include a chapter on sorting the good from the bad. There will be more on this later so I won't delve into it now. Just know that you can find a critic or editor under their designated pinned threads on the "Improve Your Writing" club.
Always read. Being exposed to new ideas and writing styles will affect how you write, too. It's even good to read bad stories because they will show you what not to do. I can honestly say that critiquing horrible works really helped me grow as a writer because I began to recognize my own mistakes in other people's writing. It's always good to be well read in many genres, not just the ones you like best.
Those are the five ways that came to mind for further improving your writing. I hope that you will consider some of them and hopefully become even better than you already are! Aside from that I just wanted to thank you for sticking with this story to this point. It fills me with such gratitude. You guys are the best.
