Poppy wasn't quite sure what it was that was going to go on as the Skrulls spoke with them, and it was a lot for everyone to take in as they began to explain everything to them about what was going on. Carol and Poppy knew that it was going to take a long time for them to get a grasp of what was going on and it was going to take Carol so much longer. The Skrull in front of them turned out, just wanted nothing but their help from them. And it turned out that that wasn't the only thing that had followed them into the home, because not only were Skrulls among them but so was a creature known as a Flerken in the shape of the cat.
Once everything was sorted out, the group found themselves in an old shed in the back of the property and the only one who wasn't invited to the party was Monica. The young girl was against not being included with everything that was going on, but it was the safest thing for her. All of them were gathered around the computer as the CD that the Skrull man had given them began to boot up, and while all of them were waiting, Carol -- no surprise -- was impatient.
⠀⠀⠀⠀ "What's happening?" Carol questioned as she glanced over all of the others in the shed.
⠀⠀⠀⠀ "It's loading," Nick answered her as he stared at the computer screen before his eyes wandered over to Poppy for a few seconds before all of them turned their attention back to the computer. The one thing that Poppy hoped for the future, was that their technology would be a whole lot quicker and better than it had been already.
⠀⠀⠀⠀ But as soon as the CD had finished loading, that was when they heard the voice of Lawson over the speakers, "Punch in the coordinates 5-2-2-9, negative 4-7. 8.7-6-8. 0.2."
⠀⠀⠀⠀ "Copy that," Carol's voice appeared over the speakers and Poppy glanced over toward the other woman in the room and she saw her entire demeanor change. "Where are we going, Doc?"
⠀⠀⠀⠀ "My laboratory," Lawson replied to her quickly, and it wasn't too long before Poppy's voice joined them.
⠀⠀⠀⠀ "Your laboratory?" Poppy questioned over the radio static. "Don't you mean the one on Earth?"

⠀⠀⠀⠀ Everything seemed as if it was going normal for their mission, but as Poppy knew all too well, it wasn't going to be good at all, "Oh, no."
⠀⠀⠀⠀ "Is that . . ." Carol began. "Wait, what is that? It's not showing up on my radar."
⠀⠀⠀⠀ "It's not showing up on mine, either," Poppy chimed in and it was easy for Poppy to tell that she was frightened with what was going on. And even as she stood in the room, she was getting the same butterflies that she had the day of the accident.
⠀⠀⠀⠀ "Go, girls. Fly!"
And that was when Poppy's mind began to go back to the day that they had been attacked because of what it was that Lawson was doing. how the accident had taken Carol away from her and that Lawson had lost her life. Poppy still, to the day, didn't know how it was that she had made it out of that situation alive. She didn't know how she had survived the crash when Lawson was merely a passenger. Nine times out of ten, it was the pilot that was going to be the one to die, but that wasn't the case for them.
She could even remember hearing Maria talk with them over the communications and then there were so many other memories that swarmed into her mind. She remembered almost everything that had gone on with the mission that they had gone on. She remembered how Lawson had died and she remembered that the woman had revealed everything about herself to Carol and Poppy.
Poppy had tried to block out everything that she had ever remembered about the mission that they had gone on. She would even go so far as to remember that it had been Carol to blow up the engine before the two of them had earned their powers because of what had happened in the accident. But there were things that Poppy couldn't remember and there were things that had happened that she couldn't put her finger on. Her mind was blank from everything that had gone on and there were so many things that she wished that she would've been able to remember. Though she couldn't, and that was something that she was going to have to learn to deal with.
And before any of them knew it, Carol stormed out of the shed and everyone glanced at each other. Maria and Poppy shared a look for a few seconds before she and Nick made their way out of the shed to follow her.

⠀⠀⠀⠀ Carol was heavily breathing as she stormed out of the shed, before she turned around to face both Nick and Poppy, "He lied to me." And that was when the Skrull and Maria joined after the rest of them and Monica removed her headphones. "Everything that I knew was a lie."
⠀⠀⠀⠀ "Now, you understand," Talos said to her as he took a few steps forward as he stared at her.
⠀⠀⠀⠀ "What? What do I understand now?" Carol snapped at him as she narrowed her gaze at the green-skinned man in front of her.
⠀⠀⠀⠀ "Yon-Rogg killed Mar-Vell," The man pointed out, knowing that they were things that the blonde in front of him had seen in her memories. "He killed her . . . 'cause she found out that she was on the wrong side of an unjust war."
⠀⠀⠀⠀ "No," Carol replied to him as she glared at him. "Your people are terrorists. They kill innocents. I saw the ruins on Torfa."
⠀⠀⠀⠀ "Ruins that the Accusers are responsible for," Talos spoke to her and Poppy could hear his voice beginning to harden with the anger that had been pent up inside of him. "My people lived as refugees on Torfa. Homeless, ever since we resisted Kree rule . . . and they destroyed our planet. And the handful of us that are left will be slaughtered next . . . unless you help me finish what Mar-Vell started." The two of them stared at each other for a few seconds and Poppy could tell that Carol was conflicted with everything that she had heard from the other side of the war. "The core that she found would have powered a light-speed ship capable of carrying us to safety. A new home where the Kree can't reach us."
⠀⠀⠀⠀ "Lawson always told us that our work at Pegasus wasn't to fight wars, but to end them," Maria stepped in and Poppy glanced over her shoulder to her friend as she spoke up.
⠀⠀⠀⠀ "She wanted you to help us find the core," Talos continued, but that wasn't where Carol ended the conversation but tried to.
⠀⠀⠀⠀ "Well, I destroyed it," Carol replied to him as she stared at him.
⠀⠀⠀⠀ "No, you destroyed the engine," The Skrull corrected her, and it made a confused face take over Carol's face. "The core that powered it is in a remote location. If you help us decode those coordinates, we can find it."
⠀⠀⠀⠀ "You'll use it to destroy us," Carol replied to him bitterly, and it was easy to see that Carol hadn't been taking the news too well. And that was something that Poppy wanted to be able to help her with, even if she didn't know-how.
⠀⠀⠀⠀ Talos let out a heavy sigh as he shook his head, "We just want a home." He paused for a few seconds to figure out what it was that he was going to say until he continued. "You and I lost everything at the hands of the Kree. Can't you see it now? You're not one of them."
⠀⠀⠀⠀ "You don't know me," Carol replied to him as she stared at him, and she shook her head. "You have no idea who I am. I don't even know who I am!"
⠀⠀⠀⠀ "You are Carol Danvers," Maria spoke as she took a few steps closer to Carol and the Skrull in front of her. "You are the woman on that black box risking her life to do the right thing. Poppy and I's best friend . . ." She glanced over her shoulder to Poppy, and the dark-haired girl gave Carol a small smile. "who supported me as a mother and the both of us as a pilot when no one else did."
⠀⠀⠀⠀ "You are smart and funny, and a huge pain in the ass . . ." Poppy chimed in as she dropped her arms to her side as she approached the two women in front of them. "and you were the most powerful person that the two of us knew way before you could shoot fire from your fists. You hear us?"
⠀⠀⠀⠀ All Carol did in response to Poppy was nod her head, but the two of them wanted to hear her, "Do you hear us?" Maria repeated the question and that was when tears began to spill over her eyes as Maria and Poppy both pulled her into a tight embrace. "Come here. Come here, girl. We got you."

Starchild
“It’s life’s illusions I recall. I really don’t know life at all.” from the song, Both Sides Now, by Joni Mitchell Starchild is an adventure novel set within an understanding of reality that is rooted in Eastern spiritual traditions. It takes as its starting point experiments in remote viewing that were genuinely undertaken by the American military in the nineteen-nineties under the name of the Stargate Project. It then imagines how a more advanced attempt to weaponise the capabilities of consciousness might have been developed in the present day.The story then explores how Ultimate Reality might respond to such a threat.Deep, elemental forces thus bring together Samantha Martin and Sahadeva Varma, old colleagues from the Stargate Project, to avert the apocalyptic consequences of this military attempt to weaponise consciousness. This fast-paced story spans genres including romance, action, adventure, science fiction and more. Although this story is based on concepts drawn from established spiritual traditions, these have sometimes been extrapolated to the point of very extreme speculation for the needs of an adventure story.Much of the underlying philosophy, however, as explained in the dharma talks given by Samantha Martin, is paraphrased from the guidance of respected spiritual teachers. Scheduling: Starchild is a previously unpublished novel of one hundred thousand words which was serialised in weekly instalments over twenty-five weeks from 15th November 2021 to the 29th April 2022. Each instalment contains five chapters – an average of approximately four thousand words in each instalment.
