《Captain Marvel》Chapter 5: Pinned Down

Carol ran towards an alleyway where no one could see or hear her. People were just minding their business and didn't mind Carol who was wearing relatively normal clothes. She just came out of a brutal fight and she didn't even get a scratch or bruise on her body.
"Why does this keep on happening to me?" Carol breathed heavily as she leaned on the wall. Her right hand was aching a bit when she collided with a steel shield earlier. "Damn it."
She grabbed a loose bandage that was right beside her and wrapped it around her hand to prevent the aching from distracting her. More people were noticing her, but continued walking. She knew that she wouldn't make it far if she stayed in the alleyway so she started making her way to her house.
The walk was long, almost taking two hours to arrive to her house. She grabbed a old jacket out of the alleyway which blocked her face from driving policemen. The only problem was that it was hot and she sweated a lot in the jacket.
Once she arrived home, she went to the radio and turned it on. The news was fairly normal, they were talking about the weather, politics and events that are about to happen. But in the middle of all of this, something interesting caught Carol's ears.
"So, in local news, a unidentified woman has been reported missing. She is to be told to the police immediately as she is important to an investigation that is happening. She is 5'5 in height and has a average body weight. More news coming up."
"Mother-" Carol stopped and punched the wall. Her hand went through it and noticed that she had broken it. "Looks like I need to spend money on this house."

Carol walked to her phone on the table and rang up the phone in the hotel where her mother was staying.
"This is Marie Danvers. Who is this?" She asked.
"This is Carol." She chuckled into the phone and smiled, "I'm glad that you guys are enjoying there."
"Not quite. We're actually preparing to the airport." Marie said. "So, how's your job doing?"
"Job? What do you mean job?"
"The nice man I met in the hospital told me that you are back in the force since you were feeling better." Marie stopped and chuckled a little, "You seem to forget things so quickly."
"Mom. My job isn't back. The nice man is lying to you. They're after me."
"After you? Why?"
"Remember the powers I told you? They're real. I flew in the sky yesterday. I was in the sky!" Carol placed a hand on her face, "I know you think I'm having a sick dream but I'm telling you the truth."
"Are they trying to kill you?" Marie asked in a worried tone.
"They can't kill me, mom. I'm indestructible. Bullets won't harm me."
"I'm coming over to you right now. I just want you to be safe." Marie hung up the phone.
"Great. My mom is coming to get me while a whole government agency is hunting me down." Carol muttered to herself.
After she hung up the phone, a flash of blue and red appeared on her window. Seven seconds later it disappeared. Carol, by instinct, went upstairs to her bedroom and hid inside her closet.
There was a knock on the door but Carol didn't bother answering it. She hoped whoever it was, they were going to realize that no one was home. But from there on out, the banging went on louder.

"Ms. Danvers! There's no use in hiding! We know you're here." Coulson shouted from the outside.
"Fine." Carol faintly said and walked outside the closet. She went downstairs and opened the door. "How did you find me?"
The Director, Coulson and Mar-Vell entered quickly and immediately shut the door behind them.
"You expect us not to have ears on everything?" The Director chuckled and sat down on her rocking chair. "When you called your mother, a signal transmitted to us."
"Why did you run, Ms. Danvers? We were having quite the chat before you left us." Coulson asked.
"I don't want to be like this. This... being where I'm indestructible because I'm not. I'm not fit for this kind of job. It deserves someone who is willing to give up their life for the country." Carol argued.
"But you, Ms. Danvers, is willing to give up your life for this planet. Currently we are under siege because of Mar-Vell." The Director said.
"Excuse me, who's Mar-Vell again?" Carol asked.
"Him." Coulson pointed at Mar-Vell Who was wearing normal clothes rather than the unusual colors he was wearing.
"Why won't he protect Earth. He seems more fit for the job?"
"It's a simple answer. He is protecting his race, while you are trying to protect your planet." The Director continued to argue, "You keep telling yourself that you're not fit for the job and you'll really doubt yourself. But if you believe in yourself, just a bit, then you will prove everyone wrong. You can and will protect our country from people who try to invade us."
"And if I fail?"
"Then you better be damn sure that you'll avenge it."
"I'll do it. But on one condition." Carol said.
"What?"
"I'll get my old life back. Being a pilot. Being a citizen. Being Carol Danvers."
"You have gotten yourself a deal."
Ronan stepped into the dome where the Supreme Intelligence resides. He was too busy preparing an army to rescue Mar-Vell from wherever he was being held captive. This meeting was just slowing him down.
"Supreme Intelligence." Ronan muttered as he slowly walked with his hammer at hand.
"I'm not here to dwell on our indifferences Ronan the Accuser, I'm here to talk about Mar-Vell."
"Our best warrior who you tried to order to rescue hundreds, but not return himself?"
"I want a status report on him. Not a pile of insults being thrown at me."
"If you had chosen anyone else, we won't be having this conversation."
"And yet we are. Status report on Captain Mar-Vell, now!" Supreme Intelligence shouted that the roof started shaking.
"We do not know his exact position but we do know he is in the Milky Way system. He used his escape pod to travel there."
"I want him to be found immediately. We can not let the Skrulls find him first."
"Then you will be kind enough to give me one week before I find him." Ronan smiled.
"For the insult, you have three." Supreme Intelligence said and Ronan stood there in anger. "You'll be spending the three days standing there? Find him at once."
