《Forbidden | Carol Danvers》Chapter 12: Adventures On Earth

Suddenly, the doors to the room opened and in came lots of Skrulls from different directions. We knew we couldn't take all of them with our hands still bound, so we decided to take the easy way out for once. We ran.
Noticing Vers didn't have any boots on her feet anymore, I looked down at my own. I hadn't even noticed I had no shoes on. 'I think we forgot something', I yelled while we were running around frantically, trying to find a way out.
'What?', she yelled back. I pointed to her feet when she looked over at me. 'We'll have go back for those', she said when she too realized she was barefoot.
We turned left, into another corridor, but saw it was a dead end. Turning back around, we were already surrounded by Skrulls trying to prevent us from fleeing.
I looked at Vers, she nodded at me. We had to fight our way out of this one. 'You wouldn't know how these things come off, would ya?', she asked the aliens surrounding us, shaking her hands in front of her body. When none of the others reacted, she just continued. 'No? Fine.'
She started knocking them out with her hands, mowing them down a few at a time. Man this woman could do a lot more than I was aware of. Now I was wondering what else she could do that I didn't know about.
Taking the Skrulls at my right side, I was struggling a bit more than Vers. I didn't have super strength like she did, only my powers. However, these Skrulls didn't seem to be trained very well. That was my luck really.
At one point, I heard her scream back at one that yelled in her face. I swear, she was the most immature mature person I had ever known. When she finished her enemies off, she looked around, impressed by her own fighting and turned around to me, where I was still sparring with two. 'Need some help over there?', she asked with a smile in her voice.
'Nope, no, thank you, I got it', I said quickly. But she helped anyway, knocking the first one into the second one, making them go down. I glared at her.
'What? You looked like you needed some help', she said innocently.
'I really hate you', I joked, turning around. She laughed before running away again. I followed her, because she clearly knew her way around the ship better than me. She ran back to the room we were held in and pushed the button next to the door with her foot. I raised my eyebrows at her.
'What? My hands are still stuck.' I wanted to say something back when the door opened and a really big soldier came out. Like, really big. He was almost two feet taller than Vers.
She hit him twice, but that seemed to have no effect on him, so he raised his axe and tried hitting her in the head. She put her hands up above her head just in time to catch it. Two other Skrulls came at her with electric sticks. I could stop one in time, but the other shocked her and put her down on the ground. While she crawled away from him, she tried to get her restraints off by using her powers, but nothing seemed to work.
Finally, when the big one came very close to her, she managed to break them and shoot them at his head. The tab behind her ear went crazy with the amount of power she was using and she sat up quickly, beaming at her glowing hands and celebrating her freedom. Standing up again, she was finally ready to take on the others, but what she hadn't noticed is that her power outburst caused the room to be destroyed. I walked to her hurryingly. I wouldn't be able to hold on to something if we were sucked into space, because my hands were still bound.

Suddenly, the wall broke and the vacuum of the room was lost. Everything that wasn't stuck to the walls or floor was being sucked out. And that included us. Vers grabbed a pole she was standing next to with one hand and grabbed my arm with the other. We were seriously screwed now.
The other Skrulls who were still in the room when the wall gave in, flew out, and I saw Vers frantically looking around, trying to find a safe place. Finally, she noticed the door to the hallway was still open and looked back to where she was holding me. Knowing what she wanted to do, I nodded. Using all the power in her right arm, she threw me into the hallway. I landed very ungracefully and hit my head on the wall, but I was safe. She followed me immediately, using her hands to blast herself forwards and closing the door behind her.
'You okay?', she asked, touching my head with her hand. It came back purple, I was bleeding. 'You have purple blood?', she asked, shocked. Didn't I tell her that? I guess not.
'Yours is blue, I don't see the difference', I answered.
'Mine is cooler', she teased.
'It's not even yours', I teased back.
'Hey! That's not fair', she laughed. I stood up, a little dizzy from the hit on my head, but fine.
'You maybe want to help me out with these?', I asked, nodding to my hands that were still in their restraints. She put her fingers on the metal, warning me that it may hurt a little and heated up her hands. I was fascinated by the heat that came off them and quickly, they burst, leaving my hands free. 'Thanks', I smiled, 'Let's go.' I didn't want to be here longer than I needed to.
She stood up too, leading me to the room we were held in. 'Hey!', she yelled to the two Skrulls standing at the monitor. They quickly put their hands up in surrender, when she stalked in to get our boots. Destroying the monitor on her way back, she gave me the boots.
'Thanks dear.'
Running out again, we went looking for the escape pods they must have on this ship. Following the Skrulls that were all running in one direction, we finally saw our way out after turning a few corners. Vers looked between the only two remaining pods and decided to go for the one furthest away. Running after her, I saw how she threw out the Skrull that was already in and followed her.
'You are really enjoying this, aren't you?', I asked when she got comfortable in the chair. She just smiled and began pushing all the buttons in the cockpit. 'You know what you are doing there?'
'Shut up, I got this', but just then, the Skrull leader from before came back and blasted the controls from behind us. I quickly turned around and blasted him with a fireblast after he said 'Leaving so soon? We're just getting to know each other.' He ducked just in time, but we were already on our way when he looked back up, not leaving him a chance to hit us again.
Vers smiled proudly when the pod shot forward and out of the ship. We were close to C-53. We were going to have to land there and call for help. But life had other plans when the heat around the pod started increasing and it rattled dangerously. Smoke and sparks filled the cockpit and we were thrown from left to right. This was not going to end well.

Little pieces started breaking off until finally, the floor gave away. We tried holding onto the bottom edge, but eventually, the whole pod fell apart and we were tumbling through the air. I held onto her arm as we waited for the impact of the earth. It came in the form of a roof and finally, a carpeted floor.
Landing on my stomach, the air was knocked out of me and I started couching, trying to get my lungs to work again. When I turned my head to the right, I saw Vers was lying on her back. I groaned. Falling from space really hurt.
Vers soon got up, almost as if we didn't just fall a mile from the sky, and extended her hand for me to take. 'You good?'
'How are you not in any pain, woman? We just fell out of the sky', I asked her, unbelievably.
'Guess I am tougher than you', she nudged me.
Ignoring her little jab at me, I looked around, trying to figure out where we were. It was clear that it was C-53, but this store was weird. Vers looked around too, probably thinking the same thing I was. Her hair was all exploded and knotted. It looked very cute.
Suddenly, she blasted a cardboard figure standing at the window, probably thinking it was a person. I looked at her with a look that said, 'really?', but she just shrugged.
'Vers to Starforce Command. Do you read me?', she asked in her Com, looking around at the weird little pictured boxes that were lined up in the store's displays. 'Hello? Do you copy?', she asked again when she didn't get an answer. I picked up a little box the same time she did, studying the picture on the front and the text at the back. It looked like a little story in a box. Why would they have stories in a box?
'C-53 is really weird', she said. 'You could say that', I answered her.
Walking through the window Vers broke a minute ago, we brushed the dust off our shoulders until we spotted a car with a man sitting in it. He was staring at us like we were aliens. Well, I guess we were. Vers walked over to him. I don't know at which point she had taken control over this mission, but I just let her. I kind of liked seeing her this way.
She knocked on the window as a gesture to roll it down, but the man just stared at her, so she knocked again. This time, he seemed to get it and rolled it down. Music came from inside when Vers bowed down and put a smile on her face. 'Hi, I'm Vers, Kree Starforce. Is this C-53?', she asked. I facepalmed. The man had no idea what she was talking about. The Earth-people didn't know of alien life and so the man was completely clueless.
So when he didn't answer, she looked at her Com confusedly. 'Do you understand me? Is my universal translator working?' The man looked at her arm and said, 'Yeah, I understand you.' He swallowed thickly, like he was afraid of her.
'Oh, good', Vers answered when he said he understood her, 'Are you in charge of security in this district?'
'Sort of. The movie theater has its own guy', he answered, gesturing towards what must be the movie theater. Vers frowned when she had no idea what he was talking about and just decided to ignore what he said. 'Where can I find communications equipment?' Ah, finally, she decided to ask a good question that the man could actually answer. He pointed slowly to the shop on the corner, where a phone booth stood against the wall.
'Thank you', she said before walking off to contact Hala. The man looked at me where I stood a few feet away. I just shook my head as a sign of 'don't ask' and followed Vers to the phone.
I stared at her as she started to pull the phone apart, trying to connect the wires to her own Com. Where she had learned that, I had no idea. 'What?', she asked when she felt me staring.
'You are a real idiot sometimes, you know that?', I laughed, referring to the conversation with the guy in the car.
'I know', she answered with a smirk, looking at me and she stopped doing whatever she was doing. 'Looks like we finally get to go on our public date', she said.
'Looks like it. I would have worn something less dirty though', I responded.
'Well, I think you look great in that outfit.' Eyeing me up and down which earned her a blush.
'So do you, Soldier. Although we should maybe work on the hair', I added, looking at her exploded blonde mess.
She laughed out loud, my favorite laugh, and shook her head. 'Maybe you can fix that, while I fix this, deal?', I nodded before she turned around again, trying to connect the Com to the phone.
Running my fingers through her hair carefully as though not to hurt her, I tried getting the knots out as best as I could. When her hair finally looked representable again, I could see the first sun rays peeking over the horizon in the east. It was my favorite moment of the day. Leaning to the wall next to the booth, I closed my eyes and relaxed. We couldn't do anything until Vers had made contact with Hala, so I finally had some time for myself.
Connecting wires and putting the phone to her ear, I heard her talking to the Com, as if it was going to make it work if she did. 'Come on', she growled impatiently.
'Vers. Vers.' I suddenly heard from her Com, making me open my eyes and stand next to her. 'Verify, CTC39'
'GRX31600, and I am fine thank you for asking', she added sarcastically.
'Is everyone okay, what happened?', I asked Yon.
'Commander?', he asked back.
'Yes, it's me, thank you for asking', I imitated Vers, which earned me a laugh from her.
He ignored my comment and said, 'Skrull ambush. I thought we'd lost you.' I was almost certain he only meant Vers with that. 'Did you find Soh-Larr?'
'It wasn't Soh-Larr', Vers explained, 'Talos simmed him, even knew his code.' Ah, so the leader guy was named Talos. Good to know. I had a feeling we would be seeing him again soon.
'That's impossible', he said, sounding very disturbed and confused. 'That code was buried in his unconscious.'
Vers grew impatient and irritated. 'The Skrulls messed with my mind. The machine that they used, I think it was how they extracted Soh-Larr's code.' She was really pissed with the Skrulls for making her see all those things. She had no idea if the images were fake or real and she had enough on her plate already. I put a hand on her shoulder to let her know I was here and she looked at me, thankful.
'Vers, where are you?', Yon asked immediately after she had said that.
'I'm on C-53', she answered, looking around. 'The Skrulls are looking for someone named Lawson', her eyes were sad and it looked like she was lost in memory.
'Who?', Yon asked. But I had a feeling he knew more than he let on. Vers' expression didn't change when she continued. 'She's... who I see', she said slowly, as if not sure to share that information.
'She's what? Vers. Vers, what?', he pushed when she didn't answer immediately. I did not like the fact that he now also knew who she saw, but there was no turning back. It looked like she wanted to say something more, but her expression suddenly changed into a hard one, deciding not to share any more personal info and I was glad.
'She's a scientist. They think she cracked the code on light speed tech. We have to get to her before they do, or else they'll be able to invade new galaxies', she glanced at me at her last two sentences. I threw her a smile, saying that I was with her on this. But Yon didn't seem to agree on her ideas.
'No. You've been caught once already.' Yes, well it is not like we could do anything about that. Asshole. He asked something to someone next to him, probably the rest of our team that did get off Torfa safely. 'Vers,' He was just completely ignoring me wasn't he.'hold your position until we get there. Keep your comms online so we can contact you.'
But she was already shaking her head whilst he was saying that. And as soon as he was finished talking, she jumped in 'No! What if they get a hold of it before-' At that, the line cut off and we lost communication with Yon. Frustrated, Vers ripped her Com parts out of the phone and stored them in her suit so we could use them later.
Just when I was about to say something to calm her down and comfort her a little, a siren sounded and three cars showed up to the place we just crashed in an hour ago. It looked like this day was getting better and better.

A little longer chapter again, but I felt like I had to put all this in one because it all connected to each other. Fury is up next!
