《The Alpha Instinct》Chapter Thirty-Two: There's Always a Silver Lining

My hands roamed over Marshall's touching the area that was sporting a large bruise. He hissed as my fingers pressed his ribs. I peeked up at him to see that his face was scrunched up in a look to intense pain. I pulled my hands back, "They're definitely broken—"
"Tell me something I don't know Lib." Marshall replied with a short breath.
"You're lucky that you didn't puncture your lung..." I say dryly as I lift a brow not appreciating his attitude. He scowled back at me before he cracked a small smirk and I feel my own lips turn upward. I heard movement behind us and I turned to see Bunny entering the room with a tense face with Koda following quickly behind her. He was wearing an exasperated expression on his handsome face, "I'm sorry. I know you wanted a chance to look over your friend but his mate wouldn't stay put..."
I sighed and ran my hand through my messy hair, "Don't worry about it. I'm done anyway—"
"And?" Bunny prompts me with a strained voice. I glance back at Marshall to see him pulling his shirt back down to hide the damage he sustained, "My prognoses is that he'll live to see another day." Bunny releases and audible sigh of relief, "But he should probably rest up and try to keep movement to a minimum until it's healed a bit more. A day or two tops and he'll pretty much be good as new."
"Thanks Libra!" Bunny smiles at me before pulling me into a hug. I chuckled and wrapped my arms around her slight frame, "You don't have to thank me—I didn't do too much." A strange smell was mingled in with Bunny. I took in a deep breath trying to figure out whether it was coming from her or if it was someone she had been around. My eyes popped open with surprise and I pulled back to look Bunny in the face. She gave me a look of confusion, "What?"
Marshall hobbled over to us, "Why are you looking at her like that?" He questioned.
I ignore him, "How are you feeling Bunny?"
"I mean much better now that I know Marshall is going to be fine."
"No, I mean like physically how have you been feeling?" She gave me a questioning look before taking a quick peek over at Marshall and then returning her attention to me, "Tired, I guess but I mean I don't think it anything to worry about."

Marshall came in closer to us, "Why do you think is something wrong with her?" I could hear the worry in his voice. I shake my head in hopes of calming his paranoia.
"No. it's nothing like that." I say to him before looking over Bunny quickly, "I think that—Bunny I think that you might be pregnant." I say in a soft tone not sure if its information she would want loads people knowing about. Marshall stiffened up beside us and Bunny's eyes widened with surprise before a big smile spread over her face. She turned her gaze towards Marshall, "Did you hear what she said?"
Marshall looked like he was frozen in time as he processed the news. Bunny peeked over at me, "Are you sure he's okay?"
"Oh he's fine—I just think he's in shock." I try to hold back my laughter.
Marshall cleared his throat, "Are you saying that I'm going to be a dad?" I pulled a step back from them as Bunny put her hand on her stomach almost in awe.
"It sure smells like it to me. It's still a little early to know for sure but I'd say with ninety percent certainty that you two are going to have a pup." I wish I would have noticed before because all of the action did make me a bit concerned but until it grew a little more there was nothing more that could be done. Bunny looked toward Marshall with a vulnerable gaze still holding her stomach, "You're not upset are you? I know you wanted to wait to start a family..."
That seemed to snap Marshall out of his stupor, "Upset? Baby I love you more then anything in the entire world. I can't think of something I would want more than see you pregnant with my pup." He pulled her into his arms without a care for his wounds and planted a kiss on the top of her head. I back away from them to let them have their moment together.
"So you are like the pack doctor or something?" Koda's gruff voice startled me and I jumped to attention having forgotten he was in the room for a brief moment. I chanced a glance over at him as I tried to calm the nervous knots in my stomach. I couldn't explain it but there was something about his presence that set me on edge and I couldn't decide if I liked it or not. I lifted a hand to try and calm the mess that was my hair, "Something like that. And you are like the Beta or something around here?" I question back playfully.

His velvety brown eyes seem to spark with amusement and the corners of his lips turned upward, "Something like that." I tried to not stare at him but it was hard because him without a smile was a sight to behold. Now that he was smiling he was breath-taking. My wolf wagged her tail back and forth with excitement at Koda's attention, there was just something about him. I found myself taking a step towards him without thinking about it, as if my feet had a mind of their own. He seemed to be under the same mindset because he moved towards me.
"LIBRA!" My brother shouted, breaking through the strange moment Koda and I had been lost in. I frowned and turned my attention to the opening of the small cave room.
"What are you going to do? Tell mommy on me?" I could hear someone ask him with mocking amusement.
"LIBRA!" He yelled louder as he got closer.
"You're acting like a big baby—" I could tell it was Lennicks who was talking to him.
"Stop following me!"
"Well, don't walk away from me and I'll won't have to follow you!" They were practically inside the room now and Koda turned around to face them with a tense expression like he was expecting to have to break up a fight. Leo appeared in the doorway turning his back to us to face Lennicks who was right on his heels.
"You're a prick you know that?" Leo growls, "It's a wonder why everyone that meets you has the desire to kill you."
Lennicks lips are pulled back in a humorless smile and the look in his eyes says he might want to strangle my brother. I knew that look well because I had given it to Leo many times of the course of our lives.
"Sticks and stones love—" Lennicks winked at Leo probably to make him angrier. Leo tensed up and spun around quickly his face bright red as he ran straight into Koda.
Koda stumbled back from the blunt force, his body colliding with mine. The moment our bodies collided sparks of electricity erupted all over me. I gasped more in surprise then from taking the force of his large body against my much smaller one. A familiar hand grabbed me and caught me before I could hit the ground, "Are you okay?" Leo asked me with an apologetic expression knowing that I was almost squished and it was totally his fault.
A low rumble permeated the room and I look from Leo to see Koda staring between us with the dark eyes of his wolf. My own wolf rose to the surface in excitement, Finally found our mate. He's perfect.
I personally didn't know what to think at the moment as I continued to stare at him. Koda took a step towards us, "Release my mate—" He growled at Leo. Leo let go of me as if I had burned him and held up his hands in surrender, "Its cool big guy—this one's my sister." He tries to smooth over. I watched Koda fighting with his instinct and reason. Though it seemed to be a struggle with his wolf very much in control.
"Damn it Leo--" Lennicks growls as he moves into the room toward us with protective look on his face, "Why do you go around causing trouble? I don't want to have to keep saving you..."
"Who said I wanted you to save me?" He growls.
"Is it necessary for you to be so difficult and dramatic about everything?" Lennicks questions in an exasperated tone.
Leo moves closer to me, "Call off your mate Lib—he looks like he wants to eat me." Leo whispered in gritted teeth.
His words broke through my shock and confusion, "Koda—" his name rolled of my name like I had said it a million times before, "Calm down. I'm fine and this idiot, he really is just my brother." That seemed to cause Koda to visibly relax and gain control of himself. He shook his head and looked around the room at all of us with his cheeks flushed with embarrassment. I couldn't help but smile when he lifted his and scratched the back of his neck nervously, "Uh--Sorry about that...I didn't mean to...you know..."
"I know." I say back with a reassuring smile, which he returns making my insides turn to mush.
Someone clears their throat behind me, "So should I start reminding you about the puking rainbow and kittens now or..." Marshall teased behind me and I squeezed my eyes shut and mentally face palmed myself.
