A/N: This song is seriously so good, it blew my mind when I first heard it. Anyway, please enjoy chapter 2 and let me know what you think!!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As soon as I stepped out of the door my eyes instantly tried to find Harry. I don't know what it was, but I've never felt this way after a conversation. He's funny and kind and insightful and beautiful and-
"Delilah!" I'm taken out of my thoughts by the sound of Jeff's voice, his arms waving over his head. I quickly walk towards him and the tension leaves my shoulders when I see the smile on his face. Okay, good. He's not mad at me.
I survey the room as I walk closer to him and I notice the arena is practically empty. I didn't think Harry and I were in the room for that long.
"Where have you been? I've been looking for you for like half an hour!" Jeff gives me a one-armed hug before giving me a concerned look.
"Yeah, sorry. I found a room in the back and it was really peaceful, I must've just lost track of time. Sorry, I promise it won't happen again." I told him apologetically.
He gave me a pointed look, "Delilah, stop stressing. I told you I had faith in you. You aren't even technically working, I just wanted you to have a nice night and have your first look into this world." He looks around. "Speaking of, I need to find Harry. You were supposed to meet him tonight."
I feel my face heat, "Oh, I actually, uh, I met him already."
"What? When?" He looks around again. "After his performance I couldn't find him, so I just assumed he went home." He looks back at me. "When did you meet him?"
"He was in that room I was in. Probably just taking a breather after his performance." I guessed. I didn't know if Jeff knew that Harry was out of it today.
"Oh." Jeff shrugged and glanced around the room as he spoke. "Good then, you've met. You guys are gonna be spending a lot of time together, so I need you to get along." He looked back at me, "It went well, then? Meeting him, I mean."
I tried to shrug nonchalantly, "Yeah, he's nice. So, are we heading out then?" I had to change the subject. If I thought about Harry any longer then I wouldn't be able to form a sentence without looking like a cherry tomato.
Jeff starts heading towards the exit and motions for me to follow. "Yeah, let's get out of here."
†
A few days pass and on Tuesday, I wake up to a call at 7 a.m. from Jeff telling me to meet him at his office.
I walk to the kitchen and see my roommate and best friend, Sebastian, making our iced coffees, his with cinnamon and mine black and unsweetened.
He hears my footsteps and his blond hair flops as he looks up with a smile. "Hey, D. How'd you sleep? Nightmare?"
I pad closer until I reach my stool at the counter. "I didn't. And yes." I sigh as Seb frowns.
"I'm sorry. And sorry I've been at work so much, I've been meaning to ask. How was the awards show on Friday?"
"It was good. Great, actually. Really great." I hear my own wistful tone before clearing my throat and grabbing my coffee. "Thanks."
"Really great, huh? Did you meet anyone famous?" His eyes widen and he leans his face closer. "Did you meet Ariana Grande?"

I laugh, "I wish. I met, um, Harry Styles, actually."
Seb's eyes widen even more. "Are you serious?! Why the fuck did it take you that long to tell me?" He smacks my arm while a murmur a small ow. "I mean, I know you were supposed to meet him anyway, but hello! You met Harry freaking Styles and you're this calm about it?!"
"I mean, I don't know. He didn't act like he was as famous as he is, so I didn't feel weird around him. He was super normal. It was...nice. It was really nice." I let out.
"I had walked into the room he was in and he was just funny and kind, and it was easy to talk to him." I continue. "And you know how I am, Seb. It takes me a while to be used to new people and new things but with him it was so...easy. It was different. Does that make sense?"
I look back up at Seb to see him nodding. "Yeah, from everything I've read people always say he's the nicest guy. He's hot as hell too, right?"
"Seb!" I blush because yes. "That's not what I was focusing on!" He gives me a look and stays quiet. I sigh. "Yes, I suppose he wasn't too hard on the eyes. And before you ask, no, I'm not giving him your number." Seb pouts as I laugh and hop off the stool.
"Alright, I've gotta get to work now, I'm gonna get dressed. In case I don't see you when I head out, love you and be safe."
"Yes, mom, I will." Seb draws out with out a smile. "Love you the most."
I get dressed quickly and drive over in my yellow 1964 Volkswagen Beetle, Joni. She's slow but she's my baby. My parents gave her to me when I was 19 and almost two years later, I love her just as much, if not more. She means the world to me. She's all I have left.
The tape player is stuck so the only song that plays is Honeybee by The Head and the Heart, the one that was in there when I first got the car. I could just turn off the radio, but it reminds me of them, so I don't mind hearing it over and over again.
I don't live too far from Jeff's office, so I get there pretty fast. My jean jacket blows in the wind as I exit my car and walk through the door.
I get in the elevator and bop my head to the beat of the elevator music. When the doors open on Jeff's floor, I head straight to his office, murmuring the lyrics to Honeybee as I walk.
The door's open but I knock anyway to catch his attention. "Hey." I smile and step in.
He looks up at me and smiles. "Hey, you got here quick. I just need you to order breakfast and get us some coffees, if you don't mind? We have a meeting in an hour, and I don't want anyone to go hungry."
He acts like I'll say no as if it isn't my job and it's endearing that he's so considerate. "Of course, Jeff, I'll head out now, just text me the order."
I turn to exit, but bump into a hard chest. "Oh, I'm so-" I jump back when I realized who it was. "Oh. Hi." I breathed.
Harry was there, the white t-shirt he was wearing tight against his upper body. My eyes had a mind of their own and made their way down his body and when they met back with his eyes, he had a smirk on his face. Oops.

"Hi back, Delilah. Where are you off to in such a rush?" His smile never drops, and I notice his voice is a lot deeper in the morning.
"Uh, Jeff has a meeting so I'm picking up some food and coffee for them. Do you want anything?" I ask as I take a step forward. He holds the door open for me and steps to the side so I can get out.
I turn to face him once I'm out the door and he responds, "I'm alright, thank you. But I could go with you if you need help? I mean, I'm supposed to be in the meeting, too, but they won't need me for an hour until then, so, like, I could go with you, if you'd like?" He rambles and I think it's the fastest I've ever heard him speak.
I give a small smile and glance at Jeff. He shrugs and goes back to texting me the order, so I take that as a yes. I look back to Harry, his eyes still on me. "Sure, that'd be great, thank you." I turn, hearing his chuckle as he follows me out.
He catches up with me and we step in the elevator. It's quiet for a moment before Harry speaks, "What's your word of the day, by the way?"
A smile rises to my face at his memory. "Consequential." He raises his eyebrows encouraging me to finish. "It means important or significant."
He smiles and nods at me. "Consequential." He repeats.
The doors open and we walk towards the parking lot. I start walking towards my car when Harry speaks. "Where are you going?" I turn and see him walking to the left, while I was walking to the right.
"Um...to my car?" I ask, confused. He chuckles and points ahead of him. "I was thinking we'd take my car." He points to his black Range Rover.
"Is it okay if I drive?" He gives a confused look at my plead. "It's just really therapeutic for me, I don't mind." It's not like I'm lying. I need to drive. Please say yes.
"Oh. Sure, okay." He nods and looks around. "Which one's your car?"
I point towards my yellow buggy and continue to walk towards it, "This one."
I turn to him and watch as his eyes land on her. "It's cute."
I stare at him for a bit, trying to see if he was being sarcastic but he seemed to genuinely like my car. People usually take one look at her and decide to judge her. But he didn't.
I smiled widely at him and unlocked the car for us to get in. I watch as his tall body tries to fit comfortably in the seat and stifle a giggle as he fidgets.
He shrugs adorably at me as I turn the key in the ignition, and she roars to life. Honeybee starts playing and I sing along as I pull out of the parking lot.
"You really do have a nice voice." Harry states. "You don't sing?" He's looking at me now.
"Uh, no. Not really. At least, I haven't for a while." I state simply. He drops the conversation at my noticeable unease and turns back out to face the window.
"Your car kind of looks like a taxi." He states randomly. He looks back at me, "Has anybody ever told you that?"
I just smile. "Her name's Joni." I wait to see if he'll get the hint. Of course he does. I hear him laugh, "No way. Like Joni Mitchell?"
I nod, "Exactly like Joni Mitchell. Big Yellow Taxi is one of my favorite songs."
He doesn't respond immediately. Instead I hear him sing, "They paved paradise, put up a parking lot," he finishes with a high laugh.
I stare with an open smile. "You sound just like her laugh!"
He's still smiling, "Thank you, thank you." And he gives a slight bow in the little space he has.
We continue to drive with the windows down as Honeybee starts to play again when Harry asks, "Didn't this song just play?"
I glance at him before turning back to the road, "Yeah, it's stuck. That's the only song that'll play. Do you want me to turn it off?" I hesitantly ask, used to people preferring silence over the same song on repeat.
I see him shake his head, "No, not at all. I love this song." And he starts drumming his fingers along the window, singing along to it.
We come to a red light and I turn to look at him. He's staring out the window, the wind blowing his short hair back.
He wants to hear the song again?
I keep looking at him, my lips parted, not realizing how obvious my stare is before I hear, "Is there any particular reason you're staring at me, Delilah?" He turns to me with a small smile.
I shake my head and turn to face forward as the light turns green. "Sorry. It's just that you're the first passenger I've had that actually wants me to leave the song on."
"People ask to turn it off? This song's amazing, that's ridiculous." He turns his head back to facing out the window and I feel my heart beating loudly in my chest.
He needs to stop talking before I say something stupid. Like how ethereal he looks with his hair blowing back and the sun hitting his eyes, making them look almost grey. And how much it makes my stomach flutter that he wants to hear the song again.
"Yeah." I breathe out. "Yeah, exactly. It's amazing. It's my favorite song, really. I just love how smooth it is and how it's the perfect song for driving with the windows down and how-" I stop when I feel his eyes on me. I pull into the coffee shop's parking lot and turn to him once I've parked. "What?"
He smiles and shakes his head. "Nothing. It's quite endearing how much you like this song."
"It means a lot to me. It's attached to a lot of good memories. Consequential." I feel my chest hollow and turn to face forward again.
Harry smiles and thankfully ends the conversation as he opens the door to the car, "Alright, let's head in, honeybee. What does Jeff want us to get?" He gets out of the car and shuts the door. He's waiting outside while I'm frozen in my spot with a sudden heat on my cheeks at the nickname.
I don't move until I hear a knock on the window. I jump and scramble out of the car with an apologetic smile on my face. The blush is still evident on my cheeks as we walk in.
†
We got back to the office just in time for their meeting. Only two fans at the shop had recognized Harry, and so, we might've stayed longer than we should've. He brought up the book he'd read last night, The Picture of Dorian Gray, and it was one of my favorites so there never seemed to be a pause in our conversation.
Now, I was sat in the back of the room where the meeting was being held, taking notes for Jeff so he could go over them later. I glanced around the room, glad to see everyone enjoying the coffees and bagels Harry and I got. My eyes land on Harry and I find him already looking at me. Once our eyes meet, he quickly looks away and clears his throat lowly.
He was staring at me. A small smile makes its way to my face as I look down at my notepad, trying to hide it.
I don't know what they're talking about but they're discussing Harry's next tour for Fine Line and using a bunch of words I don't understand. I play with the cap of the pen for a bit before I daringly look at Harry again. He's zoning in and out of the conversation.
He looks the same way he looked last night when he was talking about his performance. Like there was something bothering him.
He glances back up and makes eye contact with me and I feel my eyebrows furrow. "Are you okay?" I mouth at him.
He nods with a small smile, unbelievingly, and looks back down. I feel my lips turn into a slight frown and decide to drop it.
The meeting passes and all I could focus on was Harry. I was in and out of the conversation, hearing about what his setlist would be and the songs he would and wouldn't perform.
As everyone gets up to walk out, I feel a strange urge telling me to catch up to Harry and ask him what's wrong. But before I can consider it any further, I feel a tug on my arm, and I'm turned to come face to face with Jeff.
"Hey, can you email me whatever notes you took? I blank out after 2 minutes of these people talking." He lets out a chuckle, rubbing the back of his neck.
I give a small laugh. "Yeah, of course Jeff. I'll type them up now." I go to walk away but Jeff's voice stops me.
"Oh, by the way. We're all going out on Saturday to celebrate the fact that tour's starting soon. A club. You should come with us. Get used to being around the people you're going to spend the majority of the year with." He offers.
"Um..." I start. He sees my hesitation and looks at me sympathetically. "Delilah, it'll be good for you. Didn't you tell me when we met that your friend Seb thinks you don't go out enough? That you should surround yourself with more people and that's why you applied for the job?"
I stay quiet. "Exactly." Jeff nods once at me. "I'm not trying to pressure you. I just really think it'll be good for you to get to know everyone. Hey, Harry will be there. You guys seem to get along just fine."
The mention of Harry makes my heartbeat pick up. "I-I don't know, I don't want to intru-."
"You should come." A familiar voice makes me stop. I turn to see Harry leaning against the doorframe. "You should come with us." He repeats with a single nod.
I pause to look at him and then sigh. "I can resist everything except temptation." I shrug in agreement. "Okay, I'll come."
Harry smiles, "Another Wilde quote. That's what I like to hear, Delilah."
I smile back brightly and watch Jeff look between us with a confused look. "Right...I don't know what you're talking about but glad to hear it, Delilah!" His phone starts ringing. "I've gotta take this. See you later!" And he heads to leave, his phone between his ear and his shoulder.
"Wait, but I don't know where-." The door shuts. "To go." I mumble.
I hear Harry laugh, "He sort of just assumes people will know where to go when he invites them places." I meet his eyes when he speaks again, "I could just...get your number? And I'll text you the address. Or you could just text Jeff, that makes more sense, I-."
"That would be great." I interrupt with a smile. "Phone number would be great. It's just, um, easier, you know." I finish lamely.
"Right. Of course." He gets his phone out, but then pauses and looks back up. "Or I could pick you up-"
"No!" His eyebrows raise as he just stares at me. "Sorry, um. No, that's alright, I don't mind. I just really like driving. Thank you, though." I try to sound nonchalant, but his eyes show he doesn't believe my excuse.
He slowly goes back to opening his phone and I notice how small it looks in his large hands.
"So, what's your number, then?" His voice shakes me out of my thoughts, making me look back up to his eyes. I tell him my number and he puts his phone away quickly.
"Great." He smiles as he clasps his hands together behind his back. "Well, I'll see you Saturday then, honeybee." And he walks out the door. The nickname sounds more normal now but affects me all the same. I follow him out the door with a fluttering feeling in my stomach.
It'll be fine, Delilah. Just fine.

Song: Honeybee by The Head and the Heart.
A/N: That's the second chapter! The story may seem to be developing slowly but I have it all planned out and I hope you'll see it's worth the wait! Since Delilah isn't too comfortable with new people, I want her and Harry to develop a friendship, first and foremost. Otherwise, I think her character development wouldn't really be evident, you know?
Let me know what you think! Also, please let me know your top 3 from HS1 and your top 3 from FL. I'm curious! Mine are:
HS1- Kiwi, Carolina, and Only Angel (in that order).
FL- Golden (obviously lol), Canyon Moon, and TBSL (also in that order)!
