"Do you guys have a name yet?" Dr. Connor smiled at Graycen and Taehyung who couldn't get enough of their baby girl. Graycen had to get another surgery to close her up and stabilize her organs. Fortunately, Graycen only took three hours to recover.
Taehyung looked at Graycen, "Yes, we're naming her Elise Drew Kim. Right?" He wanted to be sure that Graycen never changed her mind.
"Right."
"We'll bring in the birth certificate then," Dr. Connor said in joy, I'm so proud of you both!" Dr. Connor gave Taehyung's shoulder a squeeze before leaving the room.
"She's so beautiful," Graycen commented mainly to herself, "I think she's gonna have my lips. I don't know?" Graycen's fingers traced shapes on her baby's hand. "What do you think?"
Taehyung blinked a few times because he felt his eyes getting watery. "Uh- I think so too. I think she'll have my eyes, though."
"I wouldn't mind that, your eyes are beautiful."
Taehyung shouldn't have felt his heart pounding at that compliment at all. Taehyung shouldn't have been grinning at his ex at all. He shouldn't have been bursting by the seams.
"Y-yeah."
It was silent after that because they'd rather bask in their baby's presence instead of talking. Graycen gently rocked the baby in arms as Taehyung just watched. There was a type of peace that filled his bones. He was way too happy.
Dr. Connor came back with the birth certificate and a pen. "What's this beautiful's baby name?"
Taehyung answered with his eyes on the baby still who had her eyes peacefully closed, "Elise Drew Kim."
"A beautiful name, oh wow." Dr. Connor cooed as she looked at the baby. "Okay, before you guys sign we have an issue. Mainly with Graycen's name and your relationship status."
Graycen looked up at Dr. Connor curiously, "Oh? What is it?"
"Apparently your finalized divorce decree is invalid, the court has overturned the decree and they may reopen the case for review."
Graycen didn't seem too affected by the news, only paying attention to her baby. Taehyung blinked slowly, trying to take in the news. He didn't really care either and it was driving him crazy, "That's okay, I guess Graycen will just sign with the maiden name."
"Okay," Dr. Connor smiled tightly, "let's start this certificate then."

The first day Graycen and Elise were in the postpartum ward was hell. Dr. Connor wanted to see if Graycen could walk to the bathroom, urinate without the use of a catheter, and eat or drink without vomiting. Graycen failed miserably so all she had was the boring soap operas. She was grateful she had Elise though although, the nurses were the ones that mainly had her.
In the middle of watching General Hospital, she heard a knock on her door. Graycen told the person to come in and was shocked to see Taehyung quickly slipping through. He worked at the hospital so the fact that she was shocked was confusing to her.
He was holding an apple and was still in his uniform for work. Taehyung looked around the room, looking for something. Then he brought a chair close to her hospital bed, "How are you feeling?"
"Like shit," Graycen muttered, reaching for the remote to turn down the TV, "Elise is with the nurses." She informed
him as she played with the soft blanket covering her.
"I know," Taehyung said as he smiled, "I saw her before I came here. The nurses say she's doing well, one of the healthiest newborns they've been caring for." Graycen found herself tearing up at that. "I just wanted to see how you're doing. I think the nurses are more worried about how you're doing."

Graycen only nodded her head as she laid back more down and paid attention more to the television, "I'll be okay, I'll be fine. I'm happy she's okay honestly it makes me feel better when I see her."
Taehyung extended his hand with the apple. Graycen didn't notice until she turned her head. Graycen shook her head and raised her eyebrow as she looked at him then the apple.
"Why the apple?"
"Why not?" Taehyung shrugged as he extended his hand further, "try eating it tomorrow. The nurse said you may feel better enough to eat."
Graycen's hand came up to take the apple reluctantly, even staring at it for a while, "Oh. Thank you." Graycen looked up at Taehyung then yawned. "I'm going to take a nap."
That night Graycen felt pain like no other. She woke up at two in the morning, hollering in pain. She clutched her stomach and was covered in sweat. Graycen was in shock of how much pain she was in but was in even more of feeling arms around her. Graycen looked up at Taehyung in his work uniform, looking at her with nothing but concern.
The nurse button was already pushed by Taehyung when he heard her cry out in agony. Taehyung finished his shift two hours ago but found going home pointless. If he didn't have Elise or Graycen there, it was no point. Three nurses hurried into the room, breaking Taehyung away and checking the problem.
Luckily, there was nothing too serious going on. The nurses explained that she was going to be in pain because of the surgery. Graycen was put on painkillers before the nurses left the room, Taehyung was still shaken up. His hands couldn't stop fidgeting on his thigh as he watched Graycen.
Graycen laid her head back as she stared at the ceiling, "Why aren't you home?"
Taehyung took a deep breath, "I don't know. It'll be easier if I stay here."
"Don't you have to shower and stuff? Sleeping on a chair isn't good for your back either." Graycen looked over at Taehyung with a weak smile. "I'm good here, the nurses will take care of me. Go take care of yourself, Elise and I will be okay." Taehyung wanted to protest more but Graycen lifted her hand up to stop him from speaking. "I'm serious Taehyung, go to sleep. Go to sleep in your own bed and I'll see you later."

The second day was a little easier for Graycen. After she was cleaned up and groomed, her family was in the room. Graycen's parents hugged her first then Taylor.
"My beautiful baby," her dad grinned as he helped her onto the bed, "where is our granddaughter?"
Graycen answered, "The nurses have her, they'll be back shortly. Thank you for coming, I love you guys."
"We love you more sis," Taylor smiled softly, "how is the pain?"
Graycen shrugged, "It's nothing I can't handle." The family maintained a stable conversation until they heard a knock on the door. "Come in!" Graycen shouted out. Two nurses and Taehyung entered the room, Taehyung was holding Elise.
"Oh goodness, can I see the baby?" Taylor cooed.
Taehyung used his head to gesture to the sink, "Wash your hands first. Make sure it's for thirty seconds that you do. You're also going to need a mask."
Everyone complied and the nurses all gave them masks. Taehyung and Graycen also wore masks. Graycen smiled at the sight of the father holding Elise and talking to her.

"Aren't you one beautiful girl?" Her dad grinned. "We've been waiting to meet you for forever. I'm so glad you're here, oh yes I am!" Graycen felt herself feeling fuzzier inside when Taehyung took out the camera that she and Jungkook got him. Graycen had to blink away the tears that were threatening to fall.
Although she was prodded with needles, stuck on an uncomfortable bed, and in a bit of pain, she felt nothing but joy at the moment.
Regrettably, I couldn't stay in the postpartum ward with Graycen and her family for too long. I still was on duty and I had to finish up paperwork. On my way from ward to my office, Diane was leaning on the wall with two cups.
"Hey!" Diane greeted with a huge smile. "I got us coffee and congratulations on the baby. She's gorgeous."
I opened my office door, inviting her in then closed the door. "Thank you. Graycen says she has my eyes."
"I guess that's an amazing thing," Diane said as she handed me the cup, "your eyes are beautiful." I was confused because Graycen practically told me the same thing. However, I only felt giddy at Graycen's compliment.
"Thanks, Diane." I took a sip of the black coffee. "I mean seriously, Dr. Connor says you did a superb job with the surgery. Not only did you save Graycen, but you saved Elise. Thank you a lot."
Diane blushed then waved me off as if it wasn't an issue for her, "Oh, it's nothing. I knew I had to do my best and I'm happy that everything's going smoothly. I'm going to let you be though, you have work to do."
I nodded, "I sure do."
"We'll talk later then."
After she left, I went to do my work. Usually, the work would stress me over and have me feeling tired. My disposition changed though when I thought about Graycen and Elise. I wanted to finish because it'd be the sooner I see them.

The third day of Graycen staying at the hospital was better than the last two days. My parents came to visit and Graycen was starting to walk on her own. I didn't know my parents even came until I walked into my mom and Graycen taking a selfie.
"Oh," I slowly said as I looked at them, "am I interrupting something?"
My mom had put her phone in her back pocket before turning to me, "My baby, come here!" I was pulled into a tight hug when I did walk over to her. I was happy to see her and my dad, happy and healthy.
Once the nurses brought Elise back in the postpartum ward, my mother got really emotional. I watched as she cried and hurried to wash her hands so she can hold her. After she and my dad put on their masks, it was like I couldn't separate them from Elise.
"Your parents seem happy," Graycen said to me as she observed them from her bed, "did you hear the news?"
"What news?"
Graycen smiled, "I get to leave tomorrow night. They say I should be fine I just have to follow a diet and take it easy."
"I see you're happy about that."
Graycen nodded, "Hell yeah! No more needles and nasty food."
Later that night, I went home only to take a shower and eat before I went back to the hospital. I slipped back into the postpartum ward, where Graycen was holding Elise in her arms.
"Taehyung?" Graycen looked at me briefly then paid more attention to our baby.
I was grateful I came when I did because Graycen and I barely had time with the baby together.
"How long have you had her?"
"Maybe an hour now," Graycen said softly as if she was whispering, "she smiled at me so much today. Come here." I felt like I could barely move, but I did. I made my way to the side of the bed and looked down.
Elise's brown eyes stared back at mine and then she scrunched her nose. She was chubby so her cheeks were a bit puffed out. Dr. Connor told me she was healthy and just needed to be taken care of. I couldn't wait to finally see her in her crib.
"She's so beautiful." I didn't even realize that I was speaking out loud. It was meant for myself to hear, but Graycen heard. She agreed with a chuckle then yawned. "Are you tired?"
"Yeah," her head lifted up to look more at the face and although she was glowing, I could tell she was tired, "do you want to hold her? I don't know when you're going back home, but-"
"I'm staying here, don't worry."
Graycen paused for a second, her eyes got real wide then she nodded slowly, "Oh, uh, ah okay. Well, bring the chair closer to the bed. I still wanna watch her until I sleep."
—
—
Graycen and Elise were discharged on the fourth day of her hospital. Graycen stayed in the backseat to have her attention more at Elise. I was nervous but happy to get back home. This was a new chapter in my life, I'm a father.
Once we arrived, I helped Graycen out the car as she was carrying Elise carefully. I grabbed Elise's bag and locked the car door. Graycen went straight to the nursery when I opened the door for us. It took me a while to bask everything in, everything felt
different.
It felt like everything was changing now. I went from stressing over losing the two most important people in my life to being grateful to have them here. I entered the nursery room where Graycen was hovering over the crib. Elise was sleeping and Graycen was watching her like a hawk.
I didn't want to put any attention on myself, but that was a fail. I ended up sneezing and Graycen quickly looked at me. "She's sleeping, I made sure to put her in only a sleep sack. She's on her back and I made sure her crib is empty, too. I don't want her to have sudden dea-"
"Graycen, I know." I didn't wanna hear her talk about anything negative. "We already talked about this at the hospital with the nurses. You did a good job putting her to sleep."
She didn't say anything afterward, but I could tell she was feeling a bit down.
"Is everything okay?"
"I just can't help, but to feel scared," Graycen sighed as she went to sit down on the rocking chair, "it doesn't feel real." I nodded my head slowly and then she looked up again. "I wanna be a great mom for her and I know I could be a nuisance at times, but I'm still learning. I'm still learning how to deal with all the shit from the past."
I didn't know what to say after she said that. I felt sick seeing her look so sad, "I think I should try therapy or something. I'm happy that I'm a mother, but I feel dull. I'm not happy mentally at all and I don't want to burden you."
"Graycen," it really did pain me to hear all of this, "you're not burdening me and you're not a nuisance. Maybe this is something that you can sleep off."
Graycen didn't say anything, just nodded, "Right? Yeah, you're right. I'm just going to sleep in here, I wanna make sure that she's okay."
Taehyung looked around to see where she could possibly sleep. Then he saw a mini sofa in the nursery. "Are you sure that'll be comfortable enough for you?"
"Yes, I slept on a hospital bed for what seemed like a week," Graycen gave him a weak smile as she moved to the sofa, "could you get me a blanket and a pillow, please?"
"You sure you don't wanna sleep somewhere more comfortable?" I questioned, I was worried I didn't think the sofa was the best option. "We have baby monitors, you know?"
"I'm sure."
I decided to get the pillow and the blanket from the guest room before I had to hear Graycen yell at me. I rested them on the sofa and watched as she was noticeably contemplating something.
"What's wrong?"
Graycen's face quickly changed into a smile, "Can you stay in here while I take a shower? Just to watch her?'
"Yeah, of course. Go ahead."

Hazelsong: A LitRPG Novel
Release Schedule: I will be moving to a set release schedule as of 1/1/2022. A new chapter will be released every Saturday at Noon EST. If I have time that week for a second chapter, I will leave a note on the Saturday chapter and post the second chapter on Sunday at Noon EST. An up to date character sheet for the MC Erik will also be posted on Sundays at 12:15 PM. If life happens and I am for some reason unable to write that week, I will post a blank chapter giving you an update on where I am with my writing. Saturday Noon EST: First weekly chapter Sunday Noon EST: Second weekly chapter (if I have the time) Sunday 12:15 EST: Updated character sheet Synopsis: Years after surviving a deadly accident, Erik struggles to come to terms with his painful disability. When offered the chance to playtest the world's first full immersion VRMMO, he wants nothing more than to retreat back into his secluded life, until he learns what Hazelsong really offers. An escape from the pain. Hazelsong is a world of magic and adventure, a place where friendships are formed, loot is won, and glory and fame are there for the taking. While the threats feel real and the stakes are always high, there is only one thing Erik is really in danger of. Forgetting which world is actually real. Story Themes: Hazelsong is a LitRPG novel that not only explores the fictional world of a realistic online fantasy realm but the life of a man suffering in silence from chronic pain and PTSD due to a significant physical injury and disability. Mental health is an important subject and we all know at least one person in our lives who has or is dealing with some form of mental illness. I plan on putting my best effort forward to represent these illnesses in a fair and accurate manner. Not as a cheap plot device to help make the protagonist more unique, but to help paint an accurate picture for those of us who have been lucky enough to not have to suffer in silence. About the Author: I am Ash Durra, general video game nerd and a connoisseur of fantasy and sci-fi of all shapes and sizes. Needless to say, I am not a professional author (B.S. and M.S. in Education, 8 years teaching). After really getting into LitRPG novels over the past several years, I found my way to Royal Road, which has inspired me to use my spare time to begin writing a story of my own creation. As this is a hobby, I am not writing and posting chapters on any kind of specific schedule at the moment, though my goal is to post on average 1-2 chapters a week. I am incredibly excited to share this story with others as I write it, and I look forward to any constructive feedback about how I can improve in my writing.
