《Into the fire》Chapter Fifty Nine

Wandas POV
I guess it's been about a week now since I went dancing with Alex. Damn does that girl have some moves. We've been together for 6 months now and it's been incredible.
I knew her blue eyes were special when I saw them, but the person behind them is so much better. She is so thoughtful and caring and sweet and funny and drop dead gorgeous. Not to mention the fact she runs into fires to save people for a living.
And beyond all of that, it's the random things I've been finding out about her that just make me fall for her harder every single day.
Like the fact that she loves to dance. Or how expressive her eyebrows are. Or that she is secretly a master at volleyball. Even the idea that she is an awful cook, but will gladly help me make anything, anytime makes me smile.
What I'm trying to say here is that I am completely in love with my girlfriend.
And I really wish she was here right now. I know she's at work. But I currently feel like shit. Peter came home sick the other day and I made the mistake of playing video games with him.
And no one else wants to risk getting sick.
So here I am.
And she's stuck at work for another... ugh. 10 hours.
I guess I could nap?
Sure. Why not? I have nothing else to do.
—————————————————————————
Alex's POV
"Thank you so much! I totally owe you one!" I cheese as I hug Eli.
"Yeah, yeah. Just go help your girlfriend feel better," he says hugging me back.
"Oh, I will," I raise an eyebrow at him.
He scrunches his face, "ew. Gross. Not what I meant."
I roll my eyes at him, "clearly not what I meant. Although.."
"No," he deadpans.
I throw my head back laughing. "Don't worry your pretty little mind. I'm going to go home and make her some soup, grab stuff for my famous hot cocoa along with some of our favorite shows," I inform him.
"You're going to make soup? I thought you were trying to make her feel better, not make her even more sick?" So much sass.
I narrow my eyes at him, "that's just rude. I will have you know that I actually make a great chicken soup."
"Mhm. Whatever you say. Just go and make your poison for your poor girlfriend already," he shoos me out the door.
"Love you too, Eli!" I blow him a kiss as I race out the door to my car so I could get to Wanda as fast as possible.
——————
So maybe I haven't really made chicken soup before. Or at least not well.. it's certainly not famous.
But Wanda left a cookbook here and I saw a recipe for one. I figured it can't be that hard to follow the instructions, right?

I did my best, anyway.
I've got the soup along with the rest of the stuff strapped into the car as I make my way to the avengers compound.
I stand waiting at the door for Nat to open it for me. I had texted her earlier saying I was trying to surprise Wanda and she was more than happy to assist.
"You're here!" She pulls me into a hug.
I laugh, "I am! Although I expected this reaction more from Wanda than you." I still hug her back.
She shrugs it off, "you make my best friend happy. And she's been begging for you."
"Begging, huh?" I can't help but smirk.
She rolls her eyes, "you know what I meant."
"Well I can't wait to see her. I have tomorrow off so I can hopefully help nurse her back to health," I smile.
"You know, you really aren't too bad," her smile fades a little bit. It seems like she gets lost thinking about something that she doesn't share. Guess it's not my business. "Well, go get her. She's been bored out of her mind."
"Don't have to tell me twice. I'll see you later, Nat!"
Soon enough the elevator spits me out at Wandas floor and I'm knocking gently on her door.
There isn't an answer. I debate if I should just go in or not.. well I could at least see if the door is unlocked?
I twist the knob and give a slight push releasing the door from its latch and letting it swing silently open.
It's dark. I think she might be sleeping.
I walk in quietly placing the food down by her bed before sitting next to her. I take a moment smiling to myself at her messy hair splayed out like a halo. She somehow is an angel even while she sleeps. The sun shining through the dark.
To let her sleep, or not?
I push some hair back, "Wanda? Hey, can you wake up for me?"
"Mm. No. Go away, Nat."
I chuckle at her sleepy voice as she assumes I'm Nat.
"Sunshine, please? I brought some soup?"
At that her eyes fly open. It takes a her a moment to focus on the fact that I'm sitting there, but once she does, she sits up instantly wrapping me in a hug.
"Alex! You're here. Has it really been 10 hours already?" She mumbles into my shoulder.
"Um, I don't think so? It's.." I look at my watch. "11 am"
She pulls away, "what? I thought you had to work until 8?"
"Well I was suppose to. But I have a shit load of sick leave saved up so I figured I could come here and try to help nurse you back to health. Or at least keep you company while you ride out the cold," I kiss her forehead.

Oh no. What.. what did I do.. she has tears forming in her eyes. "um. I'm sorry. I was trying to help? I didn't want to leave you alone and.."
She tackles me down to the bed in another hug.
I hug back still unsure. After a moment I ask her softly, "um.. are you okay, sunshine?"
I feel her nod her head against my chest.
"Okay," I hum tightening my arms around her to bring her closer to me.
"Thank you," she muffles before looking up at me.
"Thank you for coming. I.. I can't believe you took the day off to come hang out with my sick ass."
I chuckle, "your ass is perfect. And mine." I give it a light squeeze. "But, of course. I couldn't leave you to fend for yourself in this condition."
She gives me a big smile that melts me into a puddle. "You're amazing. I am so lucky to have you in my life. I thought I was going to be stuck here by myself all day. So now that I get to spend it with you, well, I already feel better."
"Well, I am glad to help in any way I can," I wiggle my eyebrows creating the red that forms on Wanda's cheeks. "You're adorable."
Then I remember the bag of goodies I brought, "are you hungry? I brought you some chicken soup."
She furrows her brows, "you got me chicken soup?"
"Well, I uh.. I may have attempted to make it myself, so I can't guarantee how great it taste or that it's even edible, but it is suppose to be chicken soup," I reach over to grab the soup out of the bag as I speak, showing her the container once I get ahold of it.
"You made soup?!"
"Uh.. yeah? Is it really that hard to believe?"
"No! No. This is just.. this is perfect. I'm sure it taste amazing. Wait.. how did you make it?" She asks looking at the food in the Tupperware.
"Uh, well I, to the best of my ability, followed the soup recipe in the cookbook you left at my house. Which I brought with me as well. Hope that's okay?" I'm hesitant now. Maybe I shouldn't have used it without asking?
"More than okay, baby. So.. you took off work to make me soup and spend the rest of your day with the risk of getting sick yourself?" She asks with suspicion.
I nod my head, "yes ma'am. Although I'm not worried about getting sick, like I said plenty of sick leave. But besides that my immune system is superior," I say seriously, getting Wanda to laugh.
"I also may have tomorrow off to spend with you as well.." I give her my biggest smile.
"What? You took off another day? Alex, you didn't have to.."
"I wanted to. And it's already done so don't go flashing those red eyes at me. Just let me take care of you? I also brought snacks, stuff for my famous hot cocoa, some of our favorite tv shows, and your favorite juice," I conclude pulling each item out in sequence.
She concedes, "can we start with the soup and hot cocoa while we watch the Dick Van Dyke show?" She gives me the big puppy eyes of hers that I can't say no to. Not that I would have.
"Of course, sunshine. Let me go warm everything up and I'll be right back," I give her a peck and go to get up.
But I can't move.
"Uh, sunshine?"
"Hm?"
"I have to go downstairs to get the food."
"I know."
I sigh knowing what she wants. "Hold on tight," I instruct picking her up to bring her with me.
She sits on the counter while I heat the soup and make the hot cocoa.
"Oh, come on. I don't get to see your secret ingredient?" She teases me.
"Nope. If I show you then you could make this yourself and you wouldn't need me," I say simply as I add it all together.
Then I feel a hand moving my chin until I'm locking eyes with my outstanding girlfriend.
"I'll always need you. I don't know if you see how much you mean to me," she whispers against my lips.
I can't help myself, I lean in the rest of the way to connect our lips in a gentle kiss before leaning my forehead against hers.
"You're my world, Wanda. You're the fire that keeps my sun burning. You make everyday brighter and warmer. My world would be so dark without you," I really gush, leave it all out there. "I love you. More than you'll ever know."
There's a few tears trailing down her cheeks which I gently wipe away.
"It's not fair. It's not fair how amazing you are. It's not fair that someday you may be taken from me, that I might lose you."
Her voice becomes a whisper as she tries to talk and it rips my heart to pieces. I don't how to fix this?
"You won't lose me, I'm here. I'll always be here for you, princess." I assure her, running my hands through her hair.
"You can't promise me that! You don't know.. the next fire or.."
"Hey, hey. Look at me, sunshine."
She reluctantly does so.
"I'm here," the guilt is ravishing through me. I want to tell her everything. Let her know I'll never leave her side. But sometimes words aren't enough.
Unless it's the right words.
It's a gamble. But I'm a betting woman.
"Move in with me."
