Tiny chapter after five months, I'm sorry.
"Toruuuuuu!" Taka squealed as he heard the door click late at night. Waiting the whole day has gotten a toll on him so hearing his beloved's footsteps enter the house lit up joy in his heart. He fluttered towards the threshold, throwing his arms around Toru's neck the moment their eyes met. "Welcome home" he whispered.
"I'm home" The taller one replied, his arms seeking his lover's back. "I missed you" he mumbled after a pause. For a moment, Taka was startled for it was his role to openly show affection to the stoic Toru, but he then chose to ignore it and answered honestly. "Me too" he pecked Toru's cheek.
"What are you wearing?" The younger one raised a brow, a hint of a smirk almost showing as he looked at Taka's attire. Moriuchi fiddled with the sleeves of the shirt he wore, which in fact was Toru's. The slender man wore his fiance's shirt over shorts of his own. "They're more comfortable than my clothes" he justified timidly, to which Toru rolled his eyes. "Sure sure" he teased his partner as he walked past him, towards their room. "I'll prepare dinner while you get changed" Taka called after his lover. However, Toru declined the offer. "I'll take a shower and go to bed" he explained, a weary smile plastered over his lips.
"Are you okay?" Taka asked, concerned.
"Yeah, I'm fine don't worry. Just tired" Yamashita smiled back briefly before continuing his march to their room.
Perplexed, Taka neatly packed up the dinner he made in containers then decided to protrude more on the matter. He carefully entered their room, only to find Toru already in bed, wrapped up in blankets. "Toru..?" Taka whispered, peeking at his husband's face. "You're not asleep are you?" He continued, seating himself on the edge beside his partner. "Toru..I'm here if you want to talk okay?" The ravenhair stroked his dearest's hair gently, cautiously rubbing his ear occasionally.

Toru finally opened his eyes, softly guiding Taka's hand to his face. "I just want to cuddle, if you don't mind" he pecked the palm of his lover's hand.
"Eeeh" Taka giggled, immediately trying to find space to lie down. "My Toru is being needy today" he smiled, letting Toru snuggle up to him and burry his face in his neck. Taka's arms snaked around his husband, keeping him close. He silently stroked Toru's back, feeling the other's tight embrace across his.
A few minutes of utter silence passed. Neither of the two spoke, they merely listened to their synchronising heartbeats. When he almost gave up on Toru opening up, the latter spoke.
"My friend told me today that he divorced his wife..they've been together since high-school, over a decade" Toru said, in a small, almost inaudible voice. Feeling the nervous squeeze on his back, Taka gave an encouraging one of his own. "Is that why you're upset?" He carefully asked, moving his hand to Toru's hair. He felt a head shake in the crook of his neck. "He loves her so so much, I could literally see it in his eyes when he talks about her. And she does too." He paused, cuddling even closer to his beloved.
"I saw it when I went out with them last time, remember? I can feel their love towards each other when they're together, I can SEE it. They were forced to break up because of.....life" his voice died out, and Taka could feel the tension in his embrace.
"It crossed my mind...what if...something happens to us..too.." he gulped. Takahiro moved his head back a bit to get a view of Toru's face. He wasn't mad at Toru for doubting them, he wasn't hurt either. He was only sad that his partner had to endure such thoughts. "Listen" he cupped Toru's cheeks tenderly. "I can't guarantee that nothing will happen" he calmly said. "But I can promise you that in case something happens, I will definitely do my best to remain by your side. You're my everything Toru" he kissed Toru's forehead. "Nothing is tearing me away from you" he mumbled, pulling Toru to his chest again. "Thank you for telling me what's bothering you"

"I love you" Toru's voice quivered as he said it, and his arms trembled as he hugged his partner back. "So much" he whispered, squeezing Taka even closer to him, if that were even possible at that point. He wished he could become even closer, merge their souls into one, get so close that neither life or death or even destiny can separate them.

A Nation of Distances (possibly a dystopian love story)
Michael lives in a toxic macho world with extreme male hierarchy. When he gets a weird rating that makes his place even more problematic he's forced to choose a fiancée at a Wife School, and he slowly discovers more about the other side of the great divide between the sexes in The Nation. If only the world would stop being so complicated... On the other side there's Megan, who's more interested in books than in marriage, and the unpredictable Eliza who seems to have a connection with Micheal already. Will they be able to cross the distance and become friends against all the rules of their own world, or will they just be crushed? Are positive relationships between men and women even possible? And is there a way to change the world or is that just a naive thought of a silly wimp? 'A Nation of Distances' is a slightly dystopian dialogue-heavy drama set in a low sci-fi future setting about the war between the sexes, disconnect and friendship. The genre will fluctuate in between more slice-of-life parts and soft sci-fi drama with possible romantic elements, with alternating lead and switching perspectives once more of the main characters are established. Content Warning: Certain concepts and scenes might be disturbing and/or triggering to some, even though the story itself won't be extremely heavy most of the time. Sexism as a double-edged sword destructive to both sexes is an important part of the story, but so is friendship.Note that all descriptions of persons and places are purely fictional and made up by the writer, and any resemblance with anything in the real world is a coincidence, since the real world is not supposed to be dystopian anyway!
