《The Mafia Bride ♡》Chapter 27 {night}

Catalaiya's pov:
After I took a shower, I jumped on my bed to watch a movie on Netflix. I put on my avocado t-shirt and shorts as they were comfy pjs and redone my bandage. With Aria coming here and me walking up and down the stairs, my thigh didn't get the rest it needed and it was hurting a little. After dinner, I had to take another painkiller.
Right now it was 11 pm. The movie just ended and now, I wanted to drink some hot chocolate. The movie that I was watching was a Christmas movie and seeing them having hot chocolate made me want some. I closed my laptop before jumping off the bed.
I made my way downstairs with no problem. All the lights were on their normal volume, which make me alarmed since Thalia or Aziel always dimmed them.
My eyes landed on Aziel who was by the glass door, his back facing me while he was watching the pool.
I made my way closer to him and I guessed he heard my footsteps since he abruptly turned toward me guarded. Once his eyes landed on me, I saw his expression turn to a softer one.
"You are not asleep yet." He broke the silence.
I shook my head no, "I was watching a movie and now I want some hot chocolate. What about you?"
"I might go for a swim," he briefly answered.
At 11 pm? The water must be freezing...
Instantly, Thalia's words came back to my mind. She did mention that Aziel uses swimming as a way to let out some steam. I wonder what's bothering him right now...
"Do you want some hot chocolate?" I offered.
He looked at me while thinking about it. It took him a few seconds before he nodded, "Okay."

I made my way to the kitchen and I knew he was following me. I grabbed the mugs from the cupboards before starting to make the hot chocolate. Aziel sat by the counter, his eyes following every movement that I was doing.
Not gonna lie having someone constantly looking at me while working was making me nervous.
What if I mess up?
"I only had hot chocolate once."
I stopped what I was doing, my head snapping up toward him. Did I just hear him say that he only had hot chocolate once?
"I was 6 years old and it was my grandmother who made it." He added.
I furrowed my eyebrows, "Why once? You didn't like it?"
He chuckled softly, "I love it. Grandma was sick on bed rest and she learned how to make hot chocolate with marshmallows for Adam and me. But the thing was that my grandmother and my mother didn't get along well. At that time we only went to her place for Thanksgiving or Christmas. We only had her hot chocolate once for Christmas... She passed away the next year."
Damn...
"I'm sorry for bringing it up." I apologised.
He shook his head, "It's okay. I never talk about this to anyone."
Oh...
"Well if I knew you like marshmallows, I would have bought them... Unfortunately, you'll have to taste a plain hot chocolate." I say as I put his mug in front of him.
"I can smell it from here and it smells good." He commented.
I leaned against the counter as I looked at him. He picks up the mug, smells the hot chocolate before absentmindedly nodding. He carefully took a long first sip.
"How is it?" I asked cautiously.
"Oh, It's good." He says making me smile.

I grabbed my cup and took my first sip.
"You don't plan to drink all the hot chocolate while standing up, are you?" I heard him ask.
"Is it your way of telling me to sit beside you?" I playfully asked.
He looked at me with an amused expression. He wasn't smiling but the playfulness was there.
"Just sit."
I walked around the counter with my mug in my hand and sat beside him. He turned on his side so that he was facing me while his elbow rested on the counter.
"So what was bothering you earlier?... I mean if you don't mind me asking." I said as I looked at him.
"The phone call was from my dad. He wants me to take upon a mafia mission which can cost our lives." He replied casually.
I frowned, "Why would he want that?"
"Because of our name in the mafia world." He answered, "The guy he wants us to fight is one of the biggest mafias in Italy. They met at a meeting and they ended up challenging each other. Now our dad wants me and Adam to fight against him."
"Will you fight him?" I asked.
He shrugged, "I need to talk with Adam first, then we'll see."
"You'll see...? didn't you just say that it can cost your lives." I reminded him.
"Every mission is risky." He says firmly.
"This one sounds suicidal," I murmured making him chuckle.
"We haven't decided anything yet." He pointed out.
I shrugged, "I stand by what I said."
He looked at me with an unreadable expression on his face. A few seconds later, he looked at his cup. We both finished our hot chocolate and I washed the dishes since it was two cups.
I waited by the window glass as she washed the dishes. Truth to be told, I was looking at her through the reflection of the glass door. Talking to her made me feel better and I didn't have to jump in the cold water of the pool.
When she finished, we both made our way to the stairs. I was going to walk to the wall where the light switch was but then suddenly the light went off.
I heard a scream before I felt her arms wrapped around my arm, hugging it tightly. It instantly came to my mind that she doesn't like the dark. I put my hand on hers.
"It's okay, I'm here." I don't really know what to do since I never comforted anyone before. She was close to me and I could feel her heartbeat racing.
"The generator will take over soon." I try to comfort her.
A few seconds later, the lights were back on. I turned around to look at her and I saw her she sigh in relief.
"Are you okay?" I asked her and she nodded.
"I hate the dark." She murmured.
