《Baby Daddy》12. Revelations

"D-Draco, I need to talk to you about something."
"Okay, shoot", I said, sitting up in the hospital bed a bit more to show her I was listening, but stopped when I felt pain.
"So, um- do you remember that night at the party when we... you know", she said anxiously.
"Uh- yeah, I do", I nodded, getting a bit uncomfortable. This was the first time either of us had brought up this topic since that night, so it was a little awkward and I wanted to know why she was bringing it up now, over a year later.
"Well, I mean- I'm not sure how to say this so I'm going to say it straight up. About a month after that night I found out I was pregnant, and now- now I have a four month old baby."
Silence.
"And you're the father, just in case you didn't realise", she said after I didn't say anything.
Silence.
"She has your hair", I could tell she was getting awkward but I didn't know what to say.
Silence.
"Draco?" she asked.
Silence.
"Please say something..." she urged.
"So your saying that I'm a-" I paused, "a dad?"
"Y-yes, that's what I'm saying", she replied.
So many thoughts were going through my head at a million miles an hour. I wasn't upset or angry with her for not telling, I just wish she hadn't been so worried to tell me, even though we weren't on good terms at the time.
'She has your hair'. That thought kept on going through my head. Oh my gosh - I have a daughter! What was I going to tell my mum? Or my friends? Or my dad?
I wanted to say something because I could tell she was getting a little worried at the silence, so I asked her, "Is that why you were in so much pain when I took you to the infirmary? Was that when you were in- in labour?"
"Oh yeah, sorry about that", she answered, a little awkwardly.
"What's her name?" I asked, wanting to know more about my daughter.
"Indigo Rose Davis. But we call her Indie for short", she said, smiling slightly at the mention of her daughter's name, our daughter's name.
"We?"
"Yes, Madam Pomfrey has been helping me look after her, that's where I'm staying at the moment," she said, pointing to the door in the corner, "and then only Ashley, Grayson, Cho, Luna, my sister and my moms know. Nobody else."
I was a little annoyed that a bunch of Halfbloods found out about my child before me, but I don't want to say anything as I knew she probably needed the support.
"Do they know about- about me?" I questioned, wondering whether she told them or not.
"No, I thought that it would be a little too complicated as we kind of hated each other when I found out. I told Gray, Ash, Luna and Cho that it was someone who's in the year above, who's now left, and then I told my sister and parents that it was Grayson. So no, nobody knows that you're the actual father, not even Madam Pomfrey."

I paused for an couple of seconds, taking in the information. Once I finally found the confidence, I asked her the question I had been dying to ask since she told me not even five minutes ago, "A-am I allowed to meet her?"
She seemed slightly taken aback by my question but then stood up out of her chair and said, "of course, but not in here." She looked around to check that no one else was in here then continued, "We'll have to go to my room, just in case anyone comes in."
I nodded then she helped me off of my hospital bed and put my arm around her shoulder to help me walk across the room. We walked over to her room in the corner of the infirmary and when she opened the door, I could see a small living area with a kitchen and three doors, one of which was open. She set me down onto the sofa so I didn't have to lean on her anymore and then walked into the open door on the other side of the room.
I heard her talking to someone, then Madam Pomfrey came out and gave me a small nod before exiting the room. Not even ten seconds later I saw her coming out of the room again, but this time with a small baby in her arms. Our baby. My daughter.
As she reached me she asked me, "are you ready?" and I nodded, too nervous to speak.
This was it, I thought, the moment I get to hold my daughter for the first time. I hoped that it would be the first of many, but considering the task I had to complete in a few days time, I was unsure if it would be.
She gently placed Indie into my open arms and I cradled her as close to my chest as I could. I stared at her almost white hair, my almost white hair, and her deep blue eyes, Delilah's deep blue eyes. She was the perfect mix of the both us.
So many thoughts and feelings were running through my head. I felt happiness that I was a father, despite my age. I felt relieved that I was finally meeting my daughter. And I felt a slight bit of regret that I wasn't there to help Delilah through her pregnancy, and that I missed the first few months of Indie's life.
Her eyes slowly opened and she stretched out her tiny little arms. She wrapped her small hand around my finger and I couldn't help the smile that was growing across my face. She looked up at me as I smiled down at her in awe, and a small giggle escaped her mouth, making me smile even wider.
"She's perfect", I whispered, not taking my eyes off of Indie.
"She really likes you," Delilah said, sitting down next to me, as I continued to admire our daughter. "She's usually really nervous and upset when she meets new people, but I think she knows that you're her father." Hearing those words come out of her mouth made me even happier than I ever thought imaginable.

We talked for hours and hours about Indie as Delilah caught me up on the first four months of her life. About the first time she lifted her head, the first time she smiled, the first time she laughed, the first time she rolled over, and the first time she crawled. She really was perfect.
Before we knew it, the sun had risen and she had to leave for her first lesson of the day, and neither of us had slept a wink. I continued to hold my sleeping daughter as Delilah got ready for the day.
Suddenly, the door to her apartment swung open and in walked Ashley and Grayson. They both froze when they saw me cradling Indie and their mouths dropped open.
"What the fuck do you think you're doing in here?" Ashley spat as she quickly ran over and took her out of my arms.
But before I could reply, Delilah came running out of the bathroom. "What are you guys doing here?" she asked nervously.
"Well, we thought we'd come a bit early to help you with Indie, but then we saw Malfoy over here holding her. Did you know he was in here, or did he break in and think it would be a good idea to steal a baby?" Grayson said, and I could see Delilah flinch at his words.
"Um- okay," she began to stutter out. "C-can I talk to you guys for a second? I-in private?"
They both looked a bit confused but followed her into another room, not before giving me a death glare each. I could here their raised voices through the closed door, but I couldn't hear what they were saying, so I figured that she was telling them the truth. I sat on the sofa awkwardly, not knowing what to do with myself, until the door opened again and they walked out, Ashley still holding Indie close to her chest.
"I'm sorry for shouting at you Malfoy", Ashley said uncomfortably, looking over to Delilah for approval. I'm guessing she told them to say this, I thought as Ashley and Grayson both looked quite awkward.
"Um- that's okay", I said back, equally as awkward.
"Gray, your turn", urged Delilah, slightly elbowing him in the ribs.
"And I'm sorry for accusing you of trying to steal your- your-" he paused for a second then took a deep breath and said, "your daughter."
I looked over to Delilah and raised my eyebrows at her, as if to say 'you actually told them?' She understood my message and nodded, then started to walk over to me.
"Ash and Gray, give Indie to Madam Pomfrey and I'll meet you in the Great Hall in a few minutes", she said whilst putting my arm over her shoulder again and helping me stand up off the sofa.
They nodded and reluctantly took Indie out of the room, leaving Delilah and I completely alone. She helped me wobble out of the room, since I was still in a bit of pain, then set me back down on my hospital bed to get some rest.
But, before she could leave, I asked her, "Can I spend time with Indie today?" I really wanted to spend as much time with her as I could before I completed the Dark Lord's task because who knows what will happen after that.
"Yeah, of course!" she spoke happily. "But just make sure no one sees her as I'm still not ready for people to know just yet, and I'm sure you feel the same way too." I agreed then said goodbye to her as she left for her lessons.
It was now the 30th of June and I was sitting in my apartment with Indie waiting for Draco to come in. Over the past few days whilst he's been in the infirmary, he's spent almost all of his time with Indie and getting know her. However, today he seemed a bit distracted about something, but I didn't really think much of it.
I decided to look out the window whilst I waited for Draco to arrive, but when I looked up into the sky I saw a skull shaped cloud forming in the sky. Before I had time to worry about it though, Draco rushed into the room, panting, looking as though her had just seen a ghost and finished running a marathon.
"Don't panic, just come with me", he said, running over to me and Indie.
"What's happening?" I asked confused, it was very hard not to panic when he was acting like he was.
"I can't get into full detail now, but all I'll say is Hogwarts is no longer safe for you and Indie".
"What do you mean?" I asked, starting to get very worried for Indie's safety.
"Please," he begged, "no more questions now, I'll answer them all later. Now, do you trust me?"
"What?" Why was he so panicked? I thought.
"I said, do you trust me?" he repeated, looking a bit annoyed.
I had to think about it for a few seconds before replying with "I- Yes, Draco, I trust you."
As soon as he heard that he came over to me, wrapped me and Indie in his arms, then apparated us away.
