"Oh George~" Dream called out. George was lying on bed, tangling in the blankets, drowsily, slowly, waking up.
"What?" George mumbled into his pillow.
Dream blushed slightly. He's so adorable.
"Come on! It's your birthday! I've got a surprise for you!" Dream sang, walking towards George. Dream reached down and brushed a strand of hair out of George's half lidded eyes. "Wake up! Wake up!"
George sat up, blinking his eyes open. "What time is it?" George mumbled sleepily.
"It's nine am, sleepy head. Come on!" Dream reached up and scooped up George, plopping him onto his feet. George rubbed his eyes, struggling to focus on Dream's face.
"I"m so —" George yawned. "I'm so tired."
Dream pressed a kiss onto George's forehead.
"Come on! I've got you a surprise!" Dream coaxed gently.
"Yeah... give me a moment." George mumbled.
Dream let go of George, and rolled his eyes as George collapsed back into bed.
"George, what time did you sleep?" Dream chastised.
"I don't know. Like, three?" George murmured into the pillow. Dream facepalmed.
"Why did you sleep so late?" Dream asked, exasperated.
"I was working on the plugin and I didn't notice the time." George protested, flipping onto his side to face Dream.
"Get up now?" Dream pleaded, giving George another kiss as an incentive.
"Fine." Even though he uttered his consent, George showed no sign of getting up.
"I — stop." Dream scooped up George and carried him out of the bedroom, shutting the door behind them.
"Fine fine fine!" George protested, stretching his arms above his head, narrowly missing Dream's face.
"Go get dressed or something." Dream stuck his head back into the bedroom and tossed out an outfit.
George snatched the clothes from the air with a surprising agility and disappeared into the bathroom. Dream leaned against the wall, tapping his foot, idly waiting for George to emerge. After a few moments, George stuck his head out.

"Umm... I kinda got water on the floor." George muttered, staring at his feet.
Dream shook his head. "How do you even — you know what? I'm not even gonna ask." He pushed back onto his feet and went into the kitchen to grab the mop. Dream handed the mop to George, who took it as well and disappeared again. After another few minutes, George finally emerged, fully clothed. Dream stood up straight and put his phone away. He held his hand out to George, who gladly took it.
"Come here." Dream started to lead George to the kitchen, but then stopped. "Wait no, close your eyes."
"Okay." George shut his eyes, clutching onto Dream's shoulder's for guidance.
"This way." George made his way through the apartment just fine, since he had lived there for quite a while now.
"Okay, I'm going to put something on your face. Whatever you do, just don't open your eyes, okay?" Dream slowly slid a pair of glasses onto George's face. The sides of the glasses felt cool on his face, and he reached up to touch it, but Dream caught George's hand.
"No, you'll get them dirty. Come on, we're going outside." Dream pulled the hand that had reached up to touch the glasses towards the door, causing George to stumble a little. "Sorry!" Dream slowed down, and then pushed the door open. He was leading George to a little meadow in the woods that were lined with flowers. There was also a little bench and a small lake a minute's distance from that meadow.
George followed slowly, feeling his way forward, eyes still squeezed shut. "How much longer, Dream?" He asked, already getting slightly annoyed at the branches occasionally slapping his face. "And where even are we?"
"Just a minute, and you'll see where we are soon." Dream replied, patiently leading George around a little puddle that had formed last night.

Finally, Dream could see the small meadow in the distance, and spoke to George again. "We're nearly there. Just a few more steps, be careful, there's a branch there!"
Dream lead George over to the small bench, and guided him to sit down in the correct place, after missing twice, which caused Dream to break out wheezing and George to grumpily slap in the direction of the sound of Dream's laughter.
"Can I open my eyes now?" George asked after Dream finally quieted down.
"Sure." Dream smiled, watching as George slowly blinked open his eyes.
"What's the difference?" George frowned, looking around.
Dream was momentarily confused. Did I get the wrong ones?
"Ummm... I thought they were supposed to help with your colorblindness or something. Do they not work?" Dream asked, unable to hide the disappointment from his voice. He immediately slipped his phone out of his pocket and searched up "how do colorblind glasses work" in Google. Meanwhile, George was still blinking, looking around.
"It says it takes a while for you to get adjusted." Dream read from his phone. "Something about your brain and your eyes, I honestly don't know. I guess we might as well just wait for a moment."
"Okay." George responded, standing up and walking around the meadow, admiring the flowers. After a few moments, he spoke again. "Some stuff does look different, though. Like this flower." He kneeled down and gently plucked it, showing it to Dream.
"It's red." Dream replied slowly.
"It's like, brighter. What?"
Dream sat up straighter. Did they work? He stood up and plucked a blade of grass, holding it up to George.
"What does this look like?"
"Like, brighter. Wait, show me something yellow."
Dream wheezed. "What, like the sun?"
George laughed. "No, not the sun. I just got these glasses, I'm not going blind."
Dream proceeded to wheeze like a kettle for a few minutes, while George scanned his surroundings, occasionally exclaiming at how different the world looked. Multiple times he would slide the glasses down his nose to look around over his glasses, then put them back on. He kneeled down and plucked another flower.
"What is this? Yellow?"
"It's green." Dream responded.
"Green..." George was slightly disappointed, but Dream hugged him.
"Don't worry, it'll probably take some relearning the colors. Try this." Dream plucked a blue flower.
"That's blue. It looks about the same, you know, before and after the glasses."
"oh."
George plucked another flower.
"Woah, calm down, don't pick the whole meadow clean." Dream laughed. George rolled his eyes, and showed it to Dream.
"Purple?"
"Pink." Dream answered.
And that's how the rest of the day went, George going around the meadow, almost like a child exploring a new sight, eagerly pointing out different colors he could differentiate better now to Dream, who watched with a small smile on his face. When the sun finally began to set, Dream started tugging George away from the meadow, and only once the forest was finally out of sight did George stop complaining.
"The glasses stole you away from me the whole day, I want some attention now." Dream announced, playfully poking George in the nose.
"You'll have to catch me then." George stuck out his tongue, and sprinted away.
"Oh, you'd better run." Dream growled, smirking knowingly. "You don't wanna know what I'm gonna do to you if I catch you."

Alex and Julius, a pair of brothers, try their best to make it in a North America reshaped by an eldritch apocalypse. “Stop right there Philip!” Julius interrupted, the vein on his temple starting to throb. “I do not want to hear another simile about what magic is. I have had magic explained to me by three cult leaders, a wizard, and a cannibal. I've heard that magic is like a rainbow, all its parts blending together. The human unconsciousness, powerful and unknowable. A body, you don't want to eat the heart straight away. I am sick and tired of people telling me what magic is. I know damn well what it is.” He drew a breath, interrupting his rant. “Magic is a bad joke. A whole lot of setup, for some nonsense punchline. This whole god-damned apocalypse is an eldritch comedy.”
