《The Recycled Alpha (Book 1) ✔》Chapter 20

Ryan's P.O.V
My face was tilted up to the Moon as I basked in it's glow.
Warmth enveloped me and I smiled slightly.
A twig broke and my head snapped over to the sound as I got up from my spot on the forest floor.
Another twig snapped and I growled in warning.
A whimper reached my ears and I could feel my wolf slowly relaxing as she seemed whatever it was not a threat.
"Come on out. I already know that you're there and you won't be able to outrun an Alpha.", I commanded.
A decent size wolf emerged from the brush, crouched with her ears against her head and her tail tucked between her legs.
The scent was familiar as I racked my brain for it.
"We know her.", Blake muttered.
"She looks so familiar...", I replied.
"What's your na-", I started.
The wolf yelped in pain, falling to the ground and howling in agony.
She clawed at the ground.
I ran to her side, the instinct to protect this wolf growing with each passing second.
With a final whine, the wolf shifted into a person I knew all too well.
A person I thought had died at the hands of my father.
My mother.
"Mom?", I whispered, staring at her broken form.
"Ryan...", she trailed off before her eyes rolled into the back of her head.
I scooped her up in my arms and took off into a run.
"Beta Dominic, meet me at the hospital NOW. Get Jenny there also!", I yelled through our link.
I shouldered through the hospital doors, laying my mother on a hospital bed that was waiting for me.
I growled, pulling Jenny back.
"You make sure she loves. I can't lose her again. Do you hear me?", I snarled.
"I will do everything in my power Alpha to make sure she lives.", Jenny replied with a determination in her eyes and voice.
"Who is she?", Dominic asked.
I let silence envelop us as I thought of my mother.
"She's my mother. Former Queen Lila Halifax. Killed by the King but covered up.", I whispered.
"Halifax? Wouldn't her last name be Jacobs, your father's last name?", Dominic asked.

"She preferred Halifax. It was changed to Jacobs but she always loved Halifax. And he's no longer my father. He's my sperm donor.", I sneered.
I saw Dominic nod out of the corner of my eye.
I sat down on the hard plastic chairs, bouncing my leg up and down.
Dominic sat beside me and laid an arm around my shoulder.
I leaned into his touch and the first tear fell.
"It's alright Alpha Ryan. She'll be okay.", he whispered soothingly into my hair.
I hope he's right.
...
"Alpha Ryan?", Jenny asked.
I stood up and walked to her.
Jenny looked at her clipboard.
"Well, it would seem the shewolf you brought in is healthy except for a few cuts. What caused her to pass would most likely be the fact the her mate has marked and mated another wolf.", Jenny said.
I snarled, punching the wall next to me.
"May I ask who she is to you?", Jenny asked.
There was a moment of silence.
"She's my mother.", I said.
Jenny nodded. "I can see the resemblance. She's awake if you would like to see her."
"Yes please.", I whispered.
Jenny led the way and knocked on the door.
"Come in.", my mom said.
I opened the door, giving a nod of thanks to Jenny before opening the door.
Closing behind me, I took a deep breath before turning and looking at my mom.
"Mom.", I sobbed and ran to her side.
I engulfed her in a hug and she hugged me back.
"My baby.", she whispered.
I pulled back after my tears stopped and I looked at her.
"What happened mom? I saw you die with my own eyes.", I whimpered.
An Alpha crying. How tough.
My mom's head was laying against the pillow as she stared at the ceiling.
"Micheal almost killed me. My wolf and I decided to slow down my heart and breathe just enough for it to seem like we were dead.
Micheal had my body dumped in the woods in No Man's Land where I laid for 3 hours and healed.
As soon as I healed just enough I took off. I've been living with a witch that broke my bond with you, Micheal, and the pack.

But the matebond was still alive on my side. She couldn't break it no matter how hard she tried.
The witch died a few days ago. I've been on the run ever since.
I heard about an Alpha taking in rogues so I came here. I never thought my own daughter would be the Alpha.", Mom informed me.
I soaked up the information. I should be mad at her for leaving me but I can't be.
"What happened to you?", she asked, finally looking at me.
I took a deep breath. "Well, dad, Micheal, decided to forcefully take the Alpha position from me. He commanded the pack and everyone was with him except for the warriors. They tried to fight it but his command was to strong.
He let every single pack member beat on me before leaving me to die in No Man's Land.
Micheal hired some rogues to kill me but it was just a ruse. They saved me and now their previous leader is my Beta.
We became an official pack a little less than 2 months ago and I have an alliance with the only pack that knows about me.", I said.
My mom nodded with a smile on her face. "You were always one to rise above no matter the circumstances."
I nodded.
She whimpered in pain and gripped the sheets tightly.
Damn it.
"You should reject him. Make him feel your pain and then we can have a witch break the matebond the rest of the way.
With the matebond weakened, it will work.", I informed her.
Please say yes.
My mom nodded. "Please do it soon. My wolf and I can't last much longer in this pain."
"I can get it done right now.", I said.
"Beta Dominic, how fast can you get a witch here?", I asked.
"There's a witch just outside of our territory. She would be willing to help us, for a price.", Dominic replied.
I thought for a moment.
"Bring her to the hospital now and have her name her price. Tell her she will be breaking a matebond.", I ordered.
"Yes Alpha.", he replied.
"My Beta is getting a witch as we speak. For now, you need to reject him.", I said.
My mom closed her eyes. "I, Lila Jacobs, rejects Micheal Jacobs, as my mate and Alpha.", she whispered.
I could tell she was in pain as she gripped the sheets and a thin layer of sweat formed on her skin.
The door opened and in stepped Beta Dominic and a witch.
My mom opened her eyes before they widened in disbelief.
"Kelli?", my mom questioned.
The witch smiled and nodded softly.
"I thought you died.", mom whispered.
"I faked my death. It was time for you to join your daughter. You couldn't stay in hiding any longer.", Kelli said softly.
I cleared my throat and all eyes turned to me.
"Alpha Halifax, it is a pleasure to finally meet you.", Kelli said while bowing her head.
"It is nice to meet you also. I hate to rush, but can we hurry up and get this done so my mom is no longer tied to the bastard?", I said, my patience wearing thin.
Kelli nodded. "Yes we may begin. But, I need you and Beta Dominic to leave the room. This is very private."
I squeezed mom's hand and stood up, swiftly kissing her forehead.
"Thank you Kelli.", I whispered to the witch as I passed her.
She nodded to me and I closed the door behind me, walking down the hall and sitting in one of the chairs.
"If there is a commotion, no need to worry. We are having something done in the hospital and I don't know how it will turn out.", I said through the link.
I got nothing in reply but I assumed that they understood and didn't want to question it.
Soon, the lights flickered and I could hear a scream.
My hand gripped the arms of the chair as I fought the urge to run to my mom.
I closed my eyes and the screams got louder and sat back.
Moon Goddess help my mom.
Please.

BODY&SHADOW
AN ILLUSTRATED NOVEL • UPDATES TUESDAY AND FRIDAY In a time before living memory, the King Dragon of the Void watched the world and realized there was a crack. He realized that humanity was destroying the rock upon which they lived; they leaked life’s code into the churning chaos. At first the change was imperceptible: nanites overtook microorganisms, bacteria, viruses, amoebas. Insects became increasingly inorganic; birds and lizards followed soon after. Even humans were infected by their own advances, cell by cell, till there was not a person left on earth who wasn’t at least part synthetic, the product of a prior generation’s carelessness. The world’s population was ravaged by mechanical viruses with no vaccines; they were mercilessly overtaken by bacteria that knew no death. Soon, most of the planet was empty and only a handful remained who remembered the hedonist realm they came from; only a few were left who remembered what the world looked like when their buildings touched the sky. The King Dragon of the Void watched the rock turn. He watched humans cower as the Old World fell down around them; watched their great monuments crumble into dusty ruins; watched their codes become precious, ancient gem memories forged under the crushing pressure of so many fallen stones. The world has spun many times around the sun since chaos swallowed man whole. It is a simpler time than the one that died out, but the people now are not immune to the folly of the people before. There is old code everywhere: in the water, in the air, in the trees. The heart of man has been replaced by power cores, many of which are hard-coded with preternatural abilities—when they die, an esoteric mountain sect collects their cores and stores them in their hollow mountain home to preserve the sanctity and dignity of human death. They’ve learned to harness artifacts of the old world, gemstones full of codes their nanite infused bodies can parse as spells imbuing their users with great power; they inlay them into their bodies, into their skins, connected to their cores by copper conduit and gold tracers; they dress themselves in tattoos to advertise their prowess; they battle for relics in arenas, fight for them in the open world wherever they are found. The King Dragon of the Void watches the rock turn and wonders: when will this hunger finally make the rock stop spinning? WELCOME TO FANXING CITY … Twenty-five years ago, Fanxing City and the surrounding lands were commanded by the mad King Zao Beiguan. For many years, the King hoarded wealth, artifacts, food; he demanded tribute from a people already taxed to the edges of their existence and expected they be happy with their circumstances. Noncompliance was often punished harshly, bodies displayed proudly on Fanxing’s streets as a warning, from the city gates to the Zao palace’s golden doors. The youths of several prominent clans came together to overthrow the tyrant and made names for themselves as legendary heroes across the land: Tian, Ren, Feng, Gui, Ma, and Zhenxi. Even wanderers from the Luanshi sect descended from Yunji mountain to aid the rebellion. When the dust settled after three years, Tian Yunyong ascended the throne of Fanxing and swore to honour his slain father’s memory, and has maintained Fanxing’s peace with generosity and mercy where fear and cruelty once reigned.
