《Fallen: b.b (book 1) REWRITING》chapter thirty-one

Everyone has been searching for Harper since the worrying discovery of her disappearance. Anastasia tried searching beginning with Dante's office, heading her way down leading to the dorm room, checking all doors that she could manage to open. It was basically getting her nowhere, but at least she didn't feel useless. She made it back as Monty and Miller were dealing out the another set of cards. They all agreed that it would be best if at least two of them were to stay in the room to not draw attention to them as the others searched.
"Anything?" Monty asked dropping the cards.
"No" Anastasia breathed out taking a seat next to him, "Deal me in?" She questioned as Miller pasted her some cards. They played for not even 5 minutes when Jasper and Maya arrived back. Miller dropped his cards raising the volume on the speakers.
"Anything?" Jasper questioned as him and Maya plopped themselves on the end of the bed Miller was sitting on. They all nodded their heads "no", "Keep looking, whatever happened to Harper, someone must have seen something" Jasper demanded.
"I doubt there going to keep her out in the open, I think we need to be realistic" Anastasia remarked biting back at him.
"How many places could she be?" Miller asked, "We're in a sealed bunker" He explained.
"There has to rooms we don't know about, places that aren't mapped" Jasper inferred.
"Well, is it possible?" Miller asked turning to Maya.
"I doubt it, but maybe" Maya replied unsure.
"Thanks, you're just a big help" Miller sarcastically remarked with a huff.
"Easy Miller" Jasper objected, "Maya's on our side"
"Are you sure about that?" Miller snapped.
"Yes" Jasper retorted roughly, "I'm sure, She's risking more than any of us"
"Really?" Miller incredulously let out, "Is she gonna end up in a kennel too, if she's caught" he stated.
"Okay, Miller" Anastasia said trying to calm him down.
"I found something" Monty broke out, he pulled out the schematics as he began pointing at the paper, "That leads to an antenna on the ground, ok?, if we can access the radio message, we can send a message over the Ark-Wide channel, tell them we're here"
"The only radio is in the command center on level 7, highly restricted" Maya stated.
"We've got in before" Jasper said with a slight smirk.
"Only because it was scheduled for decontamination" Maya added, "That won't work again so soon"
"We don't need the radio" Monty spoke up leaning forward, "We need to wires the run into it" He said making sure everyone could see the map, "Here" the tapped on the map at the intersection point.
"The art warehouse" Maya explained, "That I can get us into"
"Good, now all we have to do is break through a two foot section of wall, find the outgoing and jack it to a closed system without being heard by anyone in the command center" Monty ranted losing the others.
"That's all, huh?" Miller sarcastically remarked.

"No" Monty replied bluntly, "We'll also need to steal some copper wire, the guard's schedule, and a walkie-talkie" he listed off, "Oh, yeah and a big ass hammer"
"Delightful" Anastasia remarked with sarcasm.
Maya was useful at getting most of the items that were needed. She was the only one who had access, plus they all trusted her more than the others. Maya wheeled the items into the art warehouse in a decontamination bin, she walked in first checking the contents of the room before issuing in the others. Monty walked in with his head glued to the map as she looked up every once in awhile to compare. He flashed his light as he stormed into the room, walking up to a painting that hug on the wall behind a pedestal that held a statue of man riding a horse.
"Right here" he pointed out, "The communication lines are behind this wall" Monty dropped the map and flashlight picking up the statue, moving it over to another shelf that wasn't completely filled.
Miller grabbed the pedestal and moved it over. Anastasia took the framed painting an turned it sideways placing it lengthwise along on the wall out of harms reach. Miller did his part opening up the decontamination bin taking out the suits, hidden on top, grabbing below as he took out a hammer flipping it around so he could grip the handle tightly. He laughed lightly bouncing it in his hands, turning to Monty.
"Big ass enough for you" Miller joked as Monty nodded shyly moving out of the way as Miller started at the wall ready to swing down at it.
"Wait!" Maya yelled at Miller, "They'll hear you" she explained.
"This was the plan" Anastasia retorted.
"I knew it" Miller fired back, "She's afraid of losing her blood supply" he chastised her abruptly.
"Look, you don't have to like me, Miller" she called back, "And you can blame me all you want for what my people are doing, but I'm trying to make things right" she stated calming with a little bit of fire in the back or her voice.
"Then get the hell out of my way" Miller aggressively put.
"Miller" Anastasia pulled him back.
"Five seconds" Maya calmly stated looking down at the watch on her wrist.
"What happens in five seconds?" Monty questioned Jasper worried.
"Miller realizes what a dick he is?" Jasper retorted with a laugh. Miller scornfully looked at Jasper as overhead alarms blasted through the room and most likely the entire bunker. It indicated that the five seconds were up as Jasper shot back a smirk pointing to the sirens overhead.
"Friend owned me a favor" Maya uttered with a smirk.
"Time it to the blast" Jasper said as Miller slammed into the wall with urgent power, breaking through the concrete, with multiple slams as it eventually broke through creating a gap in the walls that revealed wires inside the emptiness of the walls. Miller moved out of the way as Monty took his flashlight towards it. The blinding light making the entire circuit board visible.

"Jackpot" Monty said looking at the wires, "Now I'm gonna need some space" he uttered seeing everyone collapsing on him. Everyone began pulling back as Monty reached in grabbing the walkie and the copper wire. Maya and Jasper went off on their own, as Miller found a spot to sit down and take it.
"Need any help?" Anastasia asked Monty as she stood behind him.
"Not right now" Monty replied shaking his head, "But I'm want you to record the message, it's will mean a lot if they hear your voice" He added, as Anastasia just nodded back, before stepping back over to Miller, as Jasper arrived back.
"Maya going to stay back and watch the door" Jasper uttered before heading off towards Monty.
"Hey, you good?" Anastasia asked Miller causing his head to strike up.
"Yeah, what about you?" He looked towards her.
"I'll be better once I know we're getting out of here" She uttered as Miller nodded along, "I'll be even better once we're out of here"
"Even if Bellamy isn't alive?" Miller blurted out, "I mean" he tried to collect the mess.
"I know what you mean" Anastasia fired back, "It's fine Miller, if you want to know, honestly, no" she breathed out looking down at her fingers.
"How stupid it sounds, I'm kind of sad that I will never hear him yell at me for letting you in my foxhole" Miller joked bringing a lightness to both of them. Anastasia let out a half-hearted laugh.
"Technically you didn't let me in, I jumped in and wouldn't leave" Anastasia pointed out, causing Miller to chuckle.
"Still would end up hearing about from Bell" Miller retorted, "You know how he is" He added.
"Hey, Ana, I need you" Monty spoke up as he held out the walkie as the wires on the wall were still unconnected, as Monty just got the copper wires and everything set up to get the walkie working.
"What do you want me to stay?" Anastasia taking the walkie that he handed to her.
"Keep it simple, but make sure to add everything, including your name" Monty replied, Anastasia nodded pressing the button.
"This is Anastasia Kane, We need help" she began taking a breath, "47 of us are trapped in Mount Weather, they've taken Harper, We don't know how much time we have left, Please hurry" she let go of the button, as Monty looked at her as she handed back the walkie.
"Thanks" he uttered quietly as Anastasia stepped away. Monty slid over to the way, as he began connecting it to the radio wires, "I've set it up to play our SOS on a loop over the Arkwide channel" he stated, "If I can get it to transmit, somebody is bound to hear it" he connected the transmitter but instead of a clear message crackling came through it rough patterns.
"Oh, that don't sound good" Miller retorted as the crackling sound echoed through the whole room. It was a low frequency but it still seemed to loudly continue the same rhythm.
"I heard this on the black box of the Exodus" he stopped, "Right before it crashed"
"They crashed the Exodus ship" Anastasia uttered with shock lacing her voice.
"A jamming signal" Jasper pointed out, "What are they jamming now?" Jasper questioned stepping forward.
"Everything, probably to keep our people from talking to each other" Monty said.
"Are we totally screwed?" Anastasia questioned Monty leaning down to the hole in the wall.
"I wouldn't say totally" Monty replied roughly trying to figure of the wires, "Just let me try to fix this" he added.
"Hurry, we're running out of time" Jasper added as Monty threw his head back to glare at Jasper before he sent a apologetic look backing up.
"Damn it!" Monty cursed as the static echoed again.
"So now we're totally screwed?" Jasper questioned.
"Our message is broadcasting, but it's over a jammed frequency" Monty explained.
"So unjam it" Miller bluntly put, as Monty scoffed.
"What do you think I've been doing?" Monty interjected, "Looks like the only way to shut it down is from the source, I need five minutes in the control room"
"No way, you heard Maya" Jasper contended, "It's too dangerous"
"We're going to have to find another way" Anastasia retorted back as Maya stormed into the room.
"The guard is coming!" Maya urged, "We have to go, cover the hole" everyone began moving around placing the equipment they brought back into the bin, Jasper reached for the walkie talkie.
"No, leave it" Monty said placing it in the hole as Anastasia ran over placing the painting back on the screw holding it up as Monty and Miller carried out the bin, she headed towards them with Jasper and Maya behind her. A thud got their attention as they turned their head back to see the picture unbalanced creating a clear visual to the hole.
"Go" Jasper told Anastasia as she ran off, meeting up with Miller and Monty outside of the art warehouse.
"Where's Jasper and Maya?" Miller asked as Anastasia as she escaped.
"There was a malfunction with the painting and Jasper told me to leave, apparently Maya stayed too" she uttered looking around noticing that both Monty and the bin was missing, "Where's Monty?" She questioned worried.
"He said he was taking the bin back" Miller replied, "We should go" he uttered as the stood in the hallway with the approaching guard coming there way. The headed towards their dorm room, as Anastasia was keeping an eye out for Monty on their way.
Jasper and Maya came back only a few minutes after Anastasia and Miller made it back to the dorm room.
"They find the radio?" Anastasia asked them when they arrived back.
"No," Jasper replied, "Where's Monty?" He questioned them.
"We thought he'd come back with you" Anastasia replied worried.
"I haven't seen him" Jasper stated.

Vote so people know this exists. _____________________________________ NOTE: The Progression tag applies specifically to Enoa. Also, fair warning, that element doesn't enter the story until she begins her studies. Content: Main characters range in age from teenagers to people in their thirties and older, but it will not contain gratuitous violence or explicit sexual content. It also won’t shy away from implication, anything to make this story and its world feel more real. Characters will freely allude to potentially triggering topics, including living with a disability, facing terminal illness, coping with trauma, surviving societal destabilization, and the consequences of bigotry. At its most intense, the Dreamside Road is a hard PG-13. Worldbuilding: This is not a story with a lot of early exposition scenes, conveniently explaining ‘magic systems’ and political dynamics. Readers will learn, progressively, as the characters do. This story/world has a ‘magic system’, or rather, a set of systems, but the effort to quantify and understand the truth of the setting plays a role in the backstory, as well as in some character motivations. In that same vein, not every character has a firm grasp on the nature of their world, and not every piece of dialog from every character should be taken as entirely truthful Worldbuilding. Also, this isn't the softest Sci-fi. There are at least some basic explanations given for various elements, but Royal Road does not give me a spectrum to choose from. Given the choice between hard and soft, let's just say The Dreamside Road won't be cited in any college Physics papers. Setting and Theme: The Dreamside Road walks the line between fantasy and science fiction and deals with finding one’s place in a changing world. Many of the characters in this story are United States natives and the story begins in the United States, my homeland. However, knowledge or interest in this country is not necessary to understand the story, especially as it progresses. Also, as this is a novel that deals with societal collapse and while that damage may be widespread, in story, I don’t want to overstep and critique the culture of others’ unless I have particular knowledge in a given area. Ultimately, the Dreamside Road is American in the same way Harry Potter is English, fantasies that do not have a full secondary world, but with enough original elements to fully diverge the setting from our the real world.
