Peter is rushing around the compound, storing weapons, and hiding pop tarts. Finally after his fifth lap of the kitchen, Sam stops him.
"You gotta stop running around, kid. It's giving me a headache." Sam grabs Peter by the arm.
"My friends are coming to visit today, and I want everything to be perfect." Peter explains, and Sam snorts.
"Surely they won't care about a few pop tart wrappers on the bench, they're coming to the freaking Avengers compound man! That's a huge honour." Sam reasons, and Peter blushes.
"Oh, I didn't think of that. But still! Why must Thor eat so many pop tarts?"
"Only Odin knows. Wait. Odin probably doesn't even know." Sam and Peter laugh.
Steve pokes his head into then kitchen. "You up for a game of water volleyball guys? We're trying to teach Thor."
Sam nods, but Peter has to decline. "My friends are coming over soon and I don't want to miss it."
Soon after, Happy's bored voice calls Peter over the intercom, saying that 'his annoying friends are here, and they better not give me a headache or touch anything.' Peter runs to the entrance, skidding to a halt in front of MJ and Ned.
"Guys! You came!" Peter exclaims, turning to give Ned a hug.
"I wouldn't pass up this opportunity for anything!" Ned responds, enveloping Peter in a big bear hug.
"Hey MJ, thanks for coming." Peter mumbles, suddenly shy.
"Just because you haven't seen me in a while doesn't mean you can turn into a stuttering idiot again." She rolls her eyes, and hugs Peter.
"I wanna show you around!" Peter announces, taking MJ's hand and leading them down the hall.
"Down this hallway we have Iron Man, Captain America and Winter Soldier. Next, is Thor, Hulk and Hawkeye. Black Widow and Scarlet Witch have their own hallway down there, I've only been down it once, and I wore an Iron Man helmet and a sumo suit for health reasons. And this is my hallway! These rooms are Ant Man, Falcon, War Machine, Vision and me!" Peter gives the guided tour of the rooms, then leads his friends into his room.

"This is my room." Peter watches as his friends walk in a circle, taking in the massive room.
MJ shrugs. "Could be nicer."
"What do you mean?! This is epic!" Ned contradicts, and secretly MJ agrees.
"I have lots of things for us to do and lots of people to meet so let's keep going!" Peter drags them out of the room and down the hallway.
In the training room, they are met by Natasha and Bucky, practicing their hand to hand combat. They are almost equal in skill, but Natasha uses the distraction of Peter and his friends to knock Bucky's legs out.
"Sorry Mr Bucky, I didn't mean to distract you." Peter apologises, but Bucky waves it off as Peter helps him up.
"You would've had me, Buck. Next time." Natasha praises, ever the good sport.
"Who are your friends?" Bucky nods towards MJ and Ned, who are hovering in the corner.
"Oh, my bad. This is Ned and MJ." Peter introduces. MJ just nods and waves with a 'sup'.
"Oh my gosh! THE Black Widow! THE Winter Soldier! This is insane!" Ned freaks out, waving his arms.
"Ned! You're embarrassing me." Peter whispers.
"Not cool, man." MJ shakes her head, and Ned quietens down.
"Uh, I'll meet you guys in the hallway in just a sec." Peter mutters, and MJ and Ned step out of the room.
Once the door closes, Natasha bursts out laughing, and Bucky smirks. Peter buries his head in his hands.
"That was so embarrassing I'm so sorry!" Peter moans.
"It's alright Pete, it was cute." Natasha reassures.
"You're friends are fun. I like MJ," Bucky puts in, arching an eyebrow at Peter. "Do you?"
"Wha-what do you mean? Do I like her?" Peter splutters, and Bucky just looks at him. "Okay, yes. She's my girlfriend."

"I knew it." Bucky answers, smirking again.
"Since when? Does Tony know?" Natasha questions, folding her arms.
"Since Europe, a few years ago. And no, Mr Stark doesn't know." Peter explains.
"You should tell him Pete. He'd want to know." Natasha reminds, and Peter blushes.
"You're right. I'll tell him today." Peter agrees, and runs out of the room.
"He's a good kid." Natasha sighs, and Bucky nods his head in agreement.
"I like his girlfriend. She's got an attitude." Bucky mutters absently.

This is the story of a mind; growing, learning, adapting, and becoming more. -- Currently the first three chapters are - well, kind of experimental. I both like and hate these; they were a pain to write, and I'm told by at least one person that they're painful to get through, but I think something like them is necessary to set one of the basic ideas about the way the story is written. It gets slightly more normal after that, the first arc of the story is rather "battle school", and I think I may need to go back and edit it - the characterization didn't end up working out as well as I had originally hoped, unfortunately, and ended up rather weak to my eye. I may go back and add a sub-plot or two, depending on how well I can handle the intended perspective shift of the second arc. -- Currently on hiatus, in case that wasn't obvious. I'm debating between rewriting large portions of what I've already written, and just finishing out the story, but either way, I don't actually have a clear idea of what I want to do right now. If I'm still feeling the same way in a few months I'll put a chapter up explaining where the story was going, maybe, so the people who have enjoyed it can know where the story was intended to go, and close this out.
