《Outcasts》Meeting the Ghost
Advertisement
Another day in the graveyard, a part time gravekeeper as well as ghost hunting. Its fun talking to the dead, but I have to kill their ghosts and I hate doing so because the dead is what fascinates me. Well, time to go home. Ive exterminated nearly fourty ghosts since the invasion started. I get paid well, and I'm glad. Because the money is what I need. As I arrived home, I heard the door lock by its self.
"Hey, who's there!!" I yelled as I got my shovel out.
"Oh, how funny. Its a monster, why did I follow such a monster like you.." Someone giggled.
"Hey! Speak up dammit!" I yelled as I wacked my shovel around, hitting an invisible figure
"Shit, that was hard!" Someone groaned. Were they a ghost?
"Hey, I cant see you but I can hear you! You must be a ghost....I'll kill you now.." I whispered as I got my ghost exterminator gun and held it to the ghost's head
"Look man, I'm not here to harm you. I'm one of those friendly ghosts. Theres like four of us." THe ghost sighed. "I'm Norton, I'll explain how I died when we get closer, for now its a secret."
"The scars are a bit obvious, an explosion?" I huffed as I put the gun away and lit a cigar. "Cant really hide anything from me."
"Well, molerat, your right. But what kind of explosion?" Norton sighed as he flew around my house. I could feel his spiritual presence and it pisses me off.
"Dont call me a molerat, one, and two it was most likely some sort of building explosion." I yawned as I huffed out the cigar smoke
"Do I look like a goddamn buisnessman?" Norton groaned. "Im not. And I never was, I couldnt afford to work at such high quality places."
"Ah, my bad then. A miner? Because you made this game way too easy." I laughed a little as I coughed out some cigar smoke. "I was gonna ask if you wanted a cigar but your a ghost, so I cant offer you one."
"Yeah right, I almost made it out of the mines, but I ended up getting crushed by a rock." Norton sighed as his ghostly body sat next to me on the chair "Scariest moment of my life."
"I can imagine." I worried
"I gotta go now, I'll meet you at your house tomorrow, ghost inspections are in an hour. Cleanse the smoke." Norton hurried as he dashed off.. I cleansed the smoke with a candle and since I deal with spirits often, I know what to do to cleanse ghosts, I do feel bad if they are friendly, because no ones friendly to a monster like me. I decided to head over to the graveyard to talk to my mother since the ghost control only goes to houses, and I talked with my mother
"I met someone today, and they seemed awfully arrogant, but I want to befriend them.." I sighed as I hugged my moms gravestone and I imagined her hugging me back. I truly miss my mom, and died when I was a senior in high school. It was treacherous to see my only friend die, and she was always there for me.
"Well, I need to go do my shift, I love you mother. Rest well..'
I ran out to go and exterminate ghosts around town, and I had to kill off many ghosts of innocent souls, I did my best not to cry since many of these souls were children running around the block.

"Dammit, I dont want to hurt a child, even if its dead. They deserve to run around, but they cant.." I shrug to myself, in disbelief that there are spirits that would rather walk around dangerously than rest in the peace they were given. Death is scarily beautiful, and I had to watch my mother die, and it was absolutely gut wrenching. I just want them to roam around in peace, not get killed and their spirits can never obtain heaven...
"God, please let the souls that roam around go to heaven, they do not mean any harm.. Amen." I pray on the street as I bump into someone. "Oh, sorry."
"Watch where your going, weirdo." Someone snarked at me.
I ran to my house and just prayed and prayed and prayed, hoping I would be able to speak to God anytime soon...He's been there for me ever since I was born, and I wouldnt be here if it werent for God.
"Your obsession with this man is scary." Someone whispered. It was Norton. He came back after two hours of ghost hunting.
"Sweet Mary Jesus you scared me!" I shrieked as I got my mini cross and held it in front of Norton.
"I am not gonna hurt you, Jeez." Norton laughed. "Now, lets get to know each other"
"Welll, I'm a grave keeper and a ghost hunter. I get paid real well for ghost hunting." I huffed as I got to know Norton better. He didnt have too good of a family, and his life was rather mediocre. Hes Scottish and Spanish? What an interesting pair, very very interesting and gorgeous. Not in that way of course, the lord would despise me if I didnt like a woman. Norton and I get along quite well already, and I enjoy his company, but he had to leave quickly due to how late it is now, and I had to pray and get ready for bed
"Night, see you tomorrow!" Norton waved as he flew out
"Goodnight, now, lets pray..." I mumble to myself. Once I finished praying, I got dressed in my pajamas and did some self care, it hurt my scars, but I want to keep clean after all the work I did. Once I head to sleep, I felt the wrath of God, I was stuck and I was trapped in his arms. I couldnt escape and whenever I did, I felt I would be betrayed and sent to hell. I felt scared, but safe in his arms.
"Keep me safe in your arms, God.." I mumbled in my sleep. "I want to be kept safe from everyone..." But I felt sleep paralyzed and I decided to read a book for the remainder of the night. Cold and dark and empty, it was scary, but I'm used to it
"If only mom were here..." I sobbed into the book. "I miss you every day mom..I'll be there one day." I ended up falling asleep at six and not getting up until nine
"Hey, Andrew. Wake up. Its Norton." Norton sighed as he poked at me
"Dont touch me!" I yelled as I woke up.
"Jeez calm down. Anyways, wanna just roam around town?" Norton sighed as he wandered around the house
"We cant, you'll get killed and I'll get fired!" I exclaimed as I got out of bed and took off my pajamas and got on some fresh new clothing. The feeling of fresh new clothing is nice. Its like when you first buy the clothing, but you already own it.

"Right, anyways, you off today? I want to get to know you more." Norton huffed. "*Cough cough* Damn it. I still got dust in my lungs."
"How odd, I do have off since it's Saturday," I yawned. "Again I apologize for yelling, I just had a really bad dream."
"I dont have an appetite as a ghost, I'm decaying at a gravesite. Want me to tell you where it is?" Norton said as he followed me out to the kitchen as I made myself some tea. He so happens to be buried a few graves from my mother. How fun.
"Your buried real close to my mom. She's the one with the large cross." I sighed as I got myself coffee and a sandwich and ate the food quietly before I decided to turn on the phonograph to some tunes. "She was an angel, and shes resting well.."
"Her name is Holly, right?" Norton replied. "This is some nice music, Andrew."
"Yes, a beautiful name, and a beautiful woman my mother was." I smiled as I lit a cigar. "Hope your comfortable with me smoking this cigar, even though you cant really be affected by the smoke.."
"Im okay with it, my dad was a heavy smoker so I'm honeslty used to this. My coworkers were as well." Norton said as I saw the tea kettle move by itself. Most likely Norton making tea. He's a lot more interesting than I expected, he has really bad claustrophobia because of what happened to his death, and I can relate to the claustrophobia.
"So, about your family did you have any siblings?" Norton shrugged as he drank some tea. Somehow he was able to drink it even though he didnt want any from me. "I had three siblings, and I was the oldest. It was quite fun, and stressful."
"Only child." I said, putting my dishes in the sink and leaving them there for a bit, I didnt have the motivation to clean them right now. I decided to just read all day as Norton listened to the music and danced.
"I used to go to parties a lot, I loved to dance with the women. I think one gals name was Serena. She was gorgeous. She looked just like you, but not as pale." Norton smiled as he danced with himself. His ghostly reflection made me giggle with how stupid he dances.
"Is that supposed to be an insult or a compliment?" I threatened
"Compliment, not in a weird way though, dont worry." Norton laughed as he grabbed my arm and brought me closer to him as he offered to dance with me. "Wanna dance?"
"I'm not too good at dancing, but I dont mind. This is very weird to me, though." I replied as I looked away as we danced to the melody of the music. I concentrated on the melody and danced with a ghost, a ghost and a human dancing together...In a time where ghosts are being killed for no damn reason other than simple humans being treacherous humans. Let ghosts be ghosts, I dont want to kill ghosts anymore, I thought it was fun at first, but its a corrupt job.
"I refuse to be more than friends." I said as I danced slowly with Norton
"Me too, buddy. Me too." Norton smiled as we continued to dance, it felt magical but it was just us dancing. Nothing special since we had just met. I dont feel too comfortable around him yet since he called me a molerat and a monster yesterday. He's alright.
After dancing for a few hours, he had to leave and I decided to just visit my mother and talk to her about Norton. If she were alive, I think she would enjoy his presence a lot
"He did call me a monster and a molerat when we first met, but I think he got a bit better and realized." I smiled as I hugged my moms gravestone. "I brought food, so we can have a little picnic.." It was a honey and peanut butter sandwich with apples and wine, just an ordinary picnic. I often visit my mother a lot so I make sure to bring picnics and a book in case.
After about an hour, I had to leave since they were cleanig the graves and I just rested for the rest of the day. Norton came by an hour after I woke up, which was great, I didnt need that.
"Hey sleepyhead!" Norton yellled. "Its nearly 10! Jeez your a heavy sleeper I tried to wake you up..."
"Look I dont have to wake up, I'll see you in the morning." I groaned.
"Fine, be like that. Jeez. I'll see you in the morning then!" Norton groaned back as he flew away. Why am I talking to a ghost when I was supposed to kill him. If I killed him, I would be happier. He's just so bothersome, but I bet once I get to know him better he's more of a nicer person. Hopefully I'll get to see him tomorrow.
"Andrew! Andrew please wake up! I almost got caught...." Someone whispered
"Norton holy shit dont do that again, what happened?" I was shocked as I saw Norton's ghostly body bruised and somewhat bloodied. "How do ghosts get beat up? Your a ghost!"
"Some other ghosts lured me to ghost hunters, but I got away. I seriously need to hide.." Norton worried. "I dont want my spirit to go away yet, I still got things to see, I havent seen my family since the damn funeral, and theyre across the country!"
"There there, I bet they stll remember you, sorry im not that good at confrontation, but they definitely remember you. They're your family." I smiled as I hugged the invisible person who was Norton Campbell. I did a bit of research of his grave, and he's just two years older than me...He died so young. I bet he had a life ahead of him, but that was taken. How unfortunate...
"Thanks for trying at least. Can I just stay and hide in the closet?" Norton sobbed as I hugged him gently.
"Of course, just dont make too much noise." I smiled as he entered the closet and I headed to sleep. Norton is very interesting, and I like this guy a lot. Not in that way, I mean it in a friendship type. Though Ive never had friends, is this what having friends is like? Norton may be dead, but I would love to speak to him more, and be with him in heaven, but I have so much planned. I want to find a lovely wife and continue to go to church and live my life. But it gets boring, so sometimes I'd rather be dead, death seems excitingly fun yet scary. Norton means a lo tome, and I wish that I had known him before he died. He seems like a fun but scary person to be around. Not that hes a bad person, but I just feel like we wouldve clicked instantly before he died,
Norton, I wish I had known you before you died.. You seem like a very fun person to be around, and your spirit makes me happy

Hazelsong: A LitRPG Novel

If I have time that week for a second chapter, I will leave a note on the Saturday chapter and post the second chapter on Sunday at Noon EST. An up to date character sheet for the MC Erik will also be posted on Sundays at 12:15 PM. If life happens and I am for some reason unable to write that week, I will post a blank chapter giving you an update on where I am with my writing. Saturday Noon EST: First weekly chapter Sunday Noon EST: Second weekly chapter (if I have the time) Sunday 12:15 EST: Updated character sheet Synopsis: Years after surviving a deadly accident, Erik struggles to come to terms with his painful disability. When offered the chance to playtest the world's first full immersion VRMMO, he wants nothing more than to retreat back into his secluded life, until he learns what Hazelsong really offers. An escape from the pain. Hazelsong is a world of magic and adventure, a place where friendships are formed, loot is won, and glory and fame are there for the taking. While the threats feel real and the stakes are always high, there is only one thing Erik is really in danger of. Forgetting which world is actually real. Story Themes: Hazelsong is a LitRPG novel that not only explores the fictional world of a realistic online fantasy realm but the life of a man suffering in silence from chronic pain and PTSD due to a significant physical injury and disability. Mental health is an important subject and we all know at least one person in our lives who has or is dealing with some form of mental illness. I plan on putting my best effort forward to represent these illnesses in a fair and accurate manner. Not as a cheap plot device to help make the protagonist more unique, but to help paint an accurate picture for those of us who have been lucky enough to not have to suffer in silence. About the Author: I am Ash Durra, general video game nerd and a connoisseur of fantasy and sci-fi of all shapes and sizes. Needless to say, I am not a professional author (B.S. and M.S. in Education, 8 years teaching). After really getting into LitRPG novels over the past several years, I found my way to Royal Road, which has inspired me to use my spare time to begin writing a story of my own creation. As this is a hobby, I am not writing and posting chapters on any kind of specific schedule at the moment, though my goal is to post on average 1-2 chapters a week. I am incredibly excited to share this story with others as I write it, and I look forward to any constructive feedback about how I can improve in my writing.

Automata Annex
This Fiction is intended as a suppliment to my main title "I was reborn into a fantasy world as a magic robot?! Automata Prime". This is the appendix that would normally go at the END of the book. I will be updating the entries as new information is revealed in the story and linking back here from the author notes. Here we'll explore the world that I've crafted in the book, learn new things about the characters, and get a deeper understanding of how magic works. Think of it as an Automata Wiki.
