Once we're inside of Evans house, I'm at awe about how much people can fit in one floor.
Looking over everyone's head, I paid attention to how the couches are pressed against the far wall in the living room, giving people enough room to dance.
In the kitchen, there stands a dozen or so different boxes filled with beer, and on the counter by the sink, several different bottles of alcohol are spread out.
No pictures anywhere.
"I'm gonna go get a drink," I shouted to Claire, hoping she can hear me through the loud music.
She thankfully nodded. "I'll come with you," she replied, standing next to me before we headed to the large kitchen.
Not wanting to drink tonight, I decide on looking for a soda can, which I luckily found in the fridge.
As I turned around again to face Claire, I noticed she held a bottle of Corona.
"You're not drinking beer?" She asked as she moved to the counter to grab a bottle opener.
I shook my head as I lifted up the can of Coca Cola to show her what I would be drinking for tonight.
She nodded her head. "Okay but just make sure you wipe—"
Claire stopped talking when she already noticed me wiping the the lid of the can with the bottom of my shirt.
"Not your first rodeo, huh?" Claire asked, laughing.
I shook my head. "It's not that I've had experience, but my father gave me a list of things to do when I go to a party. This was one of them," I explained, and she nodded her head in understanding.
After that, we kept silent, so I decided to use that time to drink my cola in peace.
Looking around the current environment I'm in, I notice a girl around my age, lying on the table while another man on the left side of her body kneels down to take a shot from her belly button.
"—right?" Claire's voice pops up, and I suddenly look to her with a guilty look.
"Sorry, I didn't hear. What did you say?"
Claire rolled her eyes playfully. "Travis! He's on the far left corner! Isn't he so hot?" She whispered excitedly.
I took a sneak peak over my shoulder, and true to her word, puppy killer stood there, drinking a beer.
"I guess... if you have a type that makes you want to run away crying," I shrugged once I've looked back to Claire.
I'm confused, I thought she had a thing for Evans. Now Travis?
"Honestly he is pretty scary, but Evans is too. But they're both equally hot," she said as she began to fan herself.
I shrugged and took another sip from my drink.
Evans doesn't look scary now, he just looks... angry. Lonely. Lost.
"Would you be okay if I went to go talk to him for a little while? It'll only be a couple of minutes!" Claire suddenly asked.
I nodded my head in Travis' direction. "Go ahead."
Claire squealed. "Thank you! I won't be gone too long," she said before she enveloped me in a hug.
Once we've let go of each other, Claire turned around and tried casually walking to Travis.
After stumbling on her own two feet on more than one occasion, she finally reached Travis, and instantly started rambling, which he replied with a glare.
I sighed, and hoped for the best before turning to find a spot I could possibly be a loner in.

Luckily, I found a secluded spot by the corner of the second entrance to the kitchen, I grinned in victory as I began making my way towards it.
"That'll ruin your teeth, you know?" A feminine voice said from the opposite side of me.
Turning my head, my eyes immediately connected with sea blue eyes.
I shrugged, lifting my drink up. "I know, but I don't drink it often. Plus, right now it's a better option than alcohol," I said before taking another sip.
"True," she nodded, and I took the currently moment of silence to take in her attire.
She wore black leggings, matched with a black t-shirt, and converse. So much black that I stood there in awe.
"I'm Amanda," I spoke as I placed my hand in between the both of us, expecting her to shake it, however, she just raised her eyebrows.
"A handshake? What are we, business partners?" she said, and I immediately dropped my hands down as I blushed in embarrassment.
"Anyway, I'm Erin, and I would really rather be in my room," she introduced, and I nodded, sending her a smile.
"You're preaching to the choir right now," I said as I lifted my cup up in salute.
After chugging my drink until my mouth began to feel bubbly, I looked back to Erin. "Who are you here with?" I asked.
Without moving her gaze from me, she opens her arms wide. "I live here so I have to handle this. You?"
I shrugged, looking over her shoulder to see Claire still chatting up Travis. "My friend, Claire. But she left me to go talk to Travis."
Erin followed my gaze and looked over her shoulder to see where they're standing. "Ah poor girl. Travis is a hard man to crack," she laughed as she began to look back to me.
Suddenly, a mischivious smirk takes its place on her lips. "You wanna do something fun?"
➸
"You're insane!" I shouted as Erin sat on the roof, bringing the box of beers closer to her.
"Oh shut up and get up here! You have the balloons!" Erin shouted, and I groaned. "And be quiet you moron!"
Slowly, I threw my leg over the window sill, tightening my hold on the bag of balloons as I looked down, seeing how far we are off of the ground.
"Come sit," Erin said, patting to the empty seat next to her.
A shaky sigh leaves me as I make my way next to her, crossing my legs once I'm sitting down.
Right when I'm down, Erin rips the bag of balloons out of my hold, and opened it up to grab a single balloon.
"Well help me, will you?" She said, and I rolled my eyes as I began to help her fill the balloons with the beer.
After successfully filling up ten balloons, we both looked at each other wickedly before picking up one balloon from our own pile.
"Okay rules. Try aiming at a person who looks drunk. Once you throw it at them, they'll think it's raining beer or some shit. It'll be hilarious," Erin stated, and I nodded.
She smirked and looked back down to the dozens of people outside in the backyard.
"Ready... set..." Erin began.
I started to lift the balloon with my right hand. "Go!" She shouted, and we both dropped our balloons on separate people, watching it explode on top of both of their heads.

"Now wasn't that fun?" Erin asked as she began laughing.
I got to admit... it kind of was.
➸
"Come on! Pick a person and get on with it!" Erin whispered loudly next to me.
We threw all nine balloons, but I had one more in my grasp, not knowing who to make suffer just yet.
"Amanda, come on," Erin whined. "The anticipation is killing me!"
I looked at her with annoyance. "Fine, jeez," I replied before I threw the balloon down without looking.
Did I...
I knew I hit someone because following the large splash, was a loud yell.
"What the fuck? Who did this shit? Who?!"
The music suddenly stopped, and the people who were previously dancing, enjoying their night, stopped moving.
Looking around the backyard, I spotted the person I soaked with beer.
Evans.
Well shit, I thought as I took in his current predicament.
"You," were the only words that came out of his mouth when his eyes met mine.
Well shit, again.
I just threw a fucking balloon filled with beer to the guy that looks like if he had a chance to kill everyone, he would.
Now, he looks like he wants to kill me.
Suddenly, I heard Erin trying to stifle a laugh next to me, and I immediately sent her a glare.
"How is this any way funny?" I asked dryly, but she responded with her choking on her own chuckle.
I narrowed my eyes in her direction one last time before looking back down to the backyard, only to find Evans previous spot empty.
Shit, shit, shit.
I jumped up to a standing position and began making my way to the same window I got out from, but right when I'm in arms length away, Evans appears, and runs to the window to lock it.
I bent down to my knees and began banging on the window. "What's wrong with you? Open the window!"
He looked back to me with an evil glint in his eye, but at the same time, he was trying to hide the smirk on his face. "What's wrong with me? Babe, what's wrong with you? You fucking dumped beer on me!"
I groaned. "I'm sorry, it was just a prank though! Take a joke!" I responded with, and his glare hardened.
"It's funny until you're the one getting targeted," he spoke lowly.
Raising my hands up in surrender, I began again. "Okay, sorry. Can you let me in now?"
Evans raised his eyebrows before taking a step back. No. "Nah. If you want to get back inside, you're gonna have to go through the front door."
He turned to leave while I stayed there, stunned. "How? I'm on the roof!"
Evans looked over his shoulder to give me a dark smirk. "Figure it out," he said before leaving the bedroom.
Groaning loudly, I turned around to face a laughing Erin. "How is this funny?" I shouted, and she laughed harder.
She raised her finer and pointed to me. "You... him... oh my God!" She bent down and slapped her knee as she continued laughing.
I crossed my arms over my chest. "Stop laughing. That Evans guy is a complete dick, and if you haven't noticed, you're stuck on the roof too."
Erin finally relaxed and gave me a knowing look. "Trust me, you don't have to worry about me."
I sent her a confused look, and I am about to ask why until I see her jump off of the roof. "Erin!"
I rush towards the edge and try to spot a head of brown hair.
After what feels like years of searching, I found her by the patio doors.
When my wide eyes locked with hers, she gave me a big wave. "Bye, nice meeting you!"
And then she's gone.
Couldn't she at least unlock the windows for me?
➸
Fuck life, and fuck people.
To answer everyone's undying question, yes I jumped off of the roof. Although I thankfully didn't break my neck, I did slip on the spilt beer from Erin and I's prank.
Karma not only kicked my ass, but served it to me for dinner.
Now, not only is Erin no where to be seen, but neither is Claire.
After ten minutes from searching all over the house, I couldn't find Claire.
Before I was able to text her, I suddenly heard moaning, which captured my attention seeing as though it looked like I'm alone on the second floor.
Shutting off my phone, I began to turn the next corner, but froze when I saw a girl pressed against the wall with Evans lips attached to her neck.
"Oh, isn't this nice!" I shouted excitedly, happy that I'm ruining his moment with his girlfriend.
Evans threw me a glare, and I removed my gleeful expression, ready to put on an act.
"I thought I was the only one baby. How could you do that to me when you said it was only me?" I pouted, pretending to be on the brink of tears.
The girl he was with, gasped, and shoved him away as she fixed up her shirt.
"You said that to me too! You lying scumbag," she snarled as she slammed her shoulder against his as she walked passed him.
Once she's gone, and I looked back to him and tilted my head to the side. "Well... bye!" I said before spinning on my heel, going the opposite direction.
As I reach the front door, I hear Evans stomping down the stairs, and I quickly rushed outside as I texted an Uber to pick me up.
Thankfully, one was in the area and said he would be here in five minutes.
"Why are you out alone?" Someone said behind me, and I turned around and faced Evans.
Shrugging, I looked down the road, expecting to see a silver Infiniti EX any time soon.
"Waiting for my Uber," I replied blankly, and I felt him moving to stand beside me.
"Have you always lived in this town, or did you just move here?" Evans asked suddenly, and I was slightly taken back.
"Uh, I used to live here," I began quietly as flashes from my past came flooding back. "I moved, and now I'm back."
He nodded slowly and began to open his mouth again to ask something, but stopped when headlights started coming towards us.
"Well that's my ride," I spoke, and I looked over my shoulder to see him nodding.
His eyes... they have such a familiarity to it.
"Well, bye, Evans," I said, and he nodded his head once.
"Bye."

Tags or genres for each book: The Exile: romance, slice-of-life The Lion: romance, slice-of-life, politics Abomination: tragedy, high/epic fantasy (aka "Everything is on fire!") Updates once a week whenever I have time. Cross-posted on Wattpad and Scribble Hub. The CBMokedi cover will return! Excerpt: She looked down at him again. Young. Healthy, from what she could see, except for the wound that was killing him. He was handsome in a way that suggested a life of wealth and plenty. She did not think he had ever starved. Someone important. Her shadow fell across him, and he frowned. Blearily, he opened his eyes. They were amber and bright, even as he lay dying in the dirt. She could feel his soul, blazing inside of him like a fire refusing to die even as his body began to fail. He met her gaze, eyes widening in what she guessed was surprise—or shock. But he never looked away, staring up at her as though transfixed. Ba’an made her decision. She raised her hand and covered his eyes. In another moment, a murder of crows cawed as they took wing. The man and woman were gone from the road, leaving only the dead staring up into the sky. Note: This is a high-fantasy set in a low-magic world. The first book is largely character-driven and we really only hit the real plot in Book II, so if you're not fond of long epic yarns you ought to skip this one. I also don't include trigger warnings, but mind the "traumatizing content" tag--all societies minus one practice slavery and the world is indeed, rather grim!
