《Holden Steele's Ruin [Completed]》Chapter 4

After the undoubtedly awkward lunch, Archer and Holden left. Avery insisted we begin getting ready, claiming there wasn't enough time. Seeing as it was only five in the afternoon and the party would probably start at around eight, I doubted time would be an issue but I complied anyway.
"It's our first collage party!"
Avery gingerly bounded around the room, a slight skip to her steps. She had been primping herself for almost an hour whilst I sat on my bed doing a recent assignment. I had no motivation whatsoever to dress up for the party, it wasn't like I was trying to impress anyone and frankly, I was still a little hesitant about going.
"So, Archer said the party officially starts at eight but we'll be there by eight thirty, when the real party starts." Her voice sounded distant, like background noise as I nodded blindly, too concentrated on the uncooperative words on my book. I jumped, startled, when my textbook was abruptly slammed shut, perfectly manicured nails invading my line of sight.
"Did you even hear a word I said?" Exasperation laced her voice.
"Sorry, I'm just really not that excited about the party." I muttered truthfully, seating up on the bed and facing Avery completely. I couldn't find it in me to feel thrilled about seeing overly drunk people openly groping each other, and calling it dancing.
"Well you better start getting fucking excited, because you're going to have fun!" Avery's face was flushed red in what was presumably supposed to be intimidation, but she only looked slightly constipated. I resulted in simply nodding, not wanting to rain on her earlier good mood.
"You can't wear that!" Avery had me jumping once again at the abrupt command. We were both getting dressed, an hour before the party as per her persistence. I frowned looking down at my dark skinny jeans and beige cable knit sweater. They were quite comfortable, and I preferred them over a skimpy outfit that would no doubt leave me freezing the whole night.
"What's wrong with what I have on?"
"It's cute and all for highschool, but you have to wear something sexy. You're a collage girl now," She immediately darted over to my dresser, pulling the drawers open before rummaging through them, determination vivid in her strides. "why are all your clothes so goddamn baggy? If I had a body like yours, I would totally walk around nude."

She had to be joking, she was the one amongst the both of us that had desirable features. I know I was somewhat pretty, but that was as far as it went. I had my father's light brown hair that came below my bellybutton and his forest green eyes, framed by dropping long lashes. Those were unquestionably the only noticeably pretty features I had.
I had always been rather tall, I used to hate the fact when I was younger. Being teased for my taller stature was a very traumatic part of my childhood I would like to forget. I however, embrace it now. I was most likely 5ft 8inches at most. Due to my questionable eating habits, I had accumulated very little body fat. Leaving me with microscopic curves to make me look feminine, and not like a scrawny adolescent boy.
"What are you anyway? A closet bad girl? With all the ear piercings and the tattoo." She asked, her head still immersed inside my dresser. My tattoo was nothing compered to Holden's though, it was barely noticeable to unobservant eyes. I had decided to get it for Blake a year ago, an infinity loop indented on the inside of my right wrist. The piercings were simply me playing rebel against the world, so I would hardly consider myself a bad anything.
"Um...I wanted something different" I saying half the truth. I only had four piercings in total, the standard piercing at both my ear lobes and two more at the tip of my right ear, I do regret them to some extent but I wouldn't dare let them close up. My mother had gone ballistic once she saw them, the amount of therapists I had seen soon after was alarming.
"Yes this is perfect!" she held up a white lace bralette that usually ended just above my bellybutton, I frowned at the piece of clothing that is originally meant to stay inside my shirt not outside for everyone else to see.
"Avery am pretty sure that is not a top" I said completely against walking around in my bra all night, I would be the dumb girl that freezes in the cold just to look sexy.
"You have to were it, its our first party and it has to be unforgettable" her expressive eyes flared up in determination, like she would force me into the top herself. I sighed lightly grabbing the thin fabric between my finger.

Twenty minutes later I was wearing the bralette, a grey Cardigan and my high waisted black skinny jeans, Avery had only let me wear the cardigan because it went with the outfit, her words exactly. She had done my make up rather professionally, making it as stubble as possible to my delight. I however drew the line when she passed me a pair of her heals claiming it was a must, instead I wore my usual white converse.
Avery looked very much the collage party girl, she had on a little black dress that reached a little higher than her mid thigh with a plunging neck line. Her golden blond hair curled meticulously as it lay over her shoulders, her make up much darker than mine and unlike me she wore tall black heals that made her legs look even longer than they were.
"Don't we just look sexy "she said flipping her blond hair as her baby blue eyes sparkled. I could deny it though because for the first time in a while I did feel sexy.
We stood outside waiting on the uber we had just called, I laughed silently at Avery's shivering frame as goosebumps rose to her arms. She shot me a glare as she wrapped her arms around herself, I had asked to put on a sweater but she was insistent that it would clash her outfit.
Loud music could be heard from down the road as we made it towards the house, already giving me the sense that the party was not going to be a small get together. True enough, the front porch was littered with so many people, some smoking while others conversed while holding red plastic cups. I could see a couple practically having sex at the corner of the building.
How fun! I thought sarcastically.
"Wow I did not expect it to be this big!" Avery voiced my thoughts, a little more excitedly than I would have. We paid the driver before making our way towards the front door, past the littered lawn.
The inside was like every other cliché party, it was extremely stuffed with barely any breathable air. Loud music bounced off the walls, giving me a slight headache. Avery and I locked hands as we elbowed our way through the thick crowd. I let her lead the way figuring she knew where to go since she looked quite determined.
"That was fucking intense" Avery sighed as she brushed her hand over her dress, fixing it before standing up confidently clearly knowing how good she looked.
The kitchen was less crowded than the leaving room, the air less filled with stench of sweat and cheap beer. I breathed deeply, filling my lungs with much needed air once we were in the kitchen. We walked to the different coloured cans stacked on the counter, I immediately grabbed a sprite while Avery mixed an alcoholic drink with coke. I emptied my soda it into a red solo cup to avoid any questions from Avery, I rather avoid alcohol of any kind.
"Where the fuck is the rest of your dress!"
We heard Archer's angry voice before we saw him. We were just making our way out of the kitchen when we saw him stomping his way towards us, his eyes ablaze with anger. Avery rolled her identical eyes, clearly annoyed at her older brother.
My shoulders deflated, the slight exhilaration of my heart decreasing at the lack of a brooding presence beside Archer.
God could I get more pathetic! The snide voice in my head taunted.
"There girls here with even shorter dresses than me, why don't you go bother them" Avery said crossing her arms over her chest. She wasn't lying, the scantily dressed girls that were splayed around the house being proof enough.
"Yeah but there not my fucking little sister!" The veins on his neck became visible, showed just how angry he truly was at the length of his sisters dress. "Collage guys are pigs, their eyes are going to be stuck on your barely covered legs. Trust me am a collage guy, shit does that thing even cover your ass!" He looked horrified almost like he was afraid to find out.
"Ugh leave me alone Archer, its our first collage party and we plan on enjoying it. Come on Savannah" Avery didn't even give him time to respond before she was dragging me towards the living, to the over clouded makeshift dance floor.
