《Holden Steele's Ruin [Completed]》chapter 16

The whole ride to the stadium consisted of Avery trying and failing miserably at teach me the basics of football, I never have been an athletic person, I just didn't get it. The stadium was an explosion of excitement as thousands of people filled the bleachers, so many home made banners and charts floating in the air as people chatted away animatedly waiting for the game to begin.
Avery maneuvered through the throng of red and gold expertly while dragging me behind her, my movements less graceful than hers. Her eyes squinted as she moved them around, standing on the tip of her toes while craning her neck as if looking for someone. They suddenly lit up having found what she was looking for before tugging me through the crowd with much more determination than before.
Flashes of a familiar mop of black amongst the see of people made an appearance as an exited Talia beckoned us over. I could see two open seats beside her as I quickly assessed their position, one was beside Talia and the other one was next to a relatively normal looking guy. I took a seat between Talia and Avery completely relived I didn't have to seat beside a stranger, I was already attending a loud football game I needed familiarity.
The crowd was larger than I would have hoped making my nerves skyrocket whole my heart lurched. I had never been one for large crowds, I would always feel uneasy and weary of the people around me. Why were there so many people anyway? I mean its basically just buffy guys shoving each other to the ground.
"Hey guys, this is my girlfriend Ryan. Ryan this is Savannah and you already know Avery" Talia said as she introduced us to the African American girl seated beside her. She had chocolate brown skin and clear brown eyes her features sharp and prominent, overall she was gorgeous in a refreshing way.
She gave us a smile with a small wave before going back to her phone, her long fingers typing furiously on her screen. Talia and Avery chatted, their excitement palpable as I hummed or gave short replies to whatever question the would shoot my way, all my focus on trying to compose my rapidly beating heart.
The loud chatter suddenly decreased as the sound of uniform chanting immerged from the entrance tunnel, girls dressed in short red and gold uniforms waved their pompoms in the air as they chanted away, probably to hype up the crowd. They did several stunts for almost ten minutes before the announced the arrival of the teams receiving an apprising roar from the crowd.
The same overly cheerful voice came through the speaker introduced the team USB was going against first, earning jeers from the dominant side of the bleachers downed in red. The moment he introduced the home team though people were screaming and cheering waving their home made posters in the air as they declared their love for the team.

I watched as the schools football team emerged from the tunnel, giving each other slaps on the back, each person walking with a skip to their step. My eyes were immediately trained on a certain brooding presence; it was like I an invisible force drew me to him, sighting him out amongst the other football players. Holden looked dangerously sinful in his uniform, it hugged his every muscle showing every dip of his prominent chest as he held his helmet in one hand the other running through his hair.
I was just about to force my eyes away from him when his steel eyes met mine, catching me off guard. Even with all the distance between us I could feel the heat of his eyes as they studied me slowly trained on the large number on my chest as a sexy smirk stretched on his pink lips while his eyes slowly rose back to mine.
Someone in the circle his teammates had formed called his name causing him to avert his eyes hence breaking the spell I was in.
"That was some intense staring you guys were doing" Avery teased pretending to wipe sweat of her forehead while smirking. My face immediately flushed at the fact that she had seen the exchange as I let my hair curtain me.
"That's his number by the way" I looked at her confused urging her to elaborate "the number on your shirt, is his. I knew he would like it, your welcome" she said while pointing at Holdens back where his Jersey had a large number thirteen printed below the word Steele. It was exactly what was splayed across my chest, no wonder Avery was so insistent that I wear the shirt.
I hadn't really though about it actually being one of the players number but now knowing it was I noticed how majority of the girls wore it too, some painting it on there skin. Some of the posters were even dedicated to him, this knowledge had my heart clenching in displeasure.
"If the girl behind me screams in my ear one more time!" Talia said angrily as a group of girls behind our bench continued to scream in excitement, waving their outrageously colourful banner in the air. Their screams were really high pitched and irritating Talia's discomfort could be justified, I would complain too.
The overly jovial voice once again announced the beginning of the game as the players lined themselves up accordingly as Holden shouted something in which they nodded stiffly. My nerves immediately spiked at that, I had long come to the conclusion that I wasn't nervous about the large number of people around me but of something else entirely.

I was nervous about seeing Holden getting hurt on the field, it was the same with Blake too, I was always so scared he would get seriously hurt one day playing. It had been bugging me since I found out about his choice of sports. I knew he was probably very good at what he did but even the best could get hurt, however the little knowledge I had on football told me that he would probably get shoved by other built players during the whole game.
I clamped my trembling hands together, biting my quivering lips as I tried to hide my jittery nerves. The game began soon after, all my attention was solely on Holden as I watched him glide expertly across the filed proving that he really was amazing at the game.
He was fast and agile, dogging every obstacle, he did however still get hit once or twice, which had me physically flinching at the edge of my seat. I really hope none of the girls saw that, it would just give Avery something else to taunt me with. I continued to watch, my heart in my throat as our team worked as a united front against the other one.
My eyes remained glued to Holden as I noticed how his stiff muscles had relaxed and how his strides seemed less rigid, almost free. I had caught a small glimpse of his face through his helmet and was surprised to see a grin spread across his face.
He must really love what he does if it has him grinning, I thought hating the fact that I had just grown a fondness for football just because it made him happy.
I chewed on the fries Avery had grabbed during half time distractedly as I watched on. The Falcons where leading with five points on the score board with only some minutes left on the timer. I was surprised to find myself gripping Avery's hand as my eyes remained trained keenly on the field.
Grave silence took over the stadium as Archer launched the ball at Holden who caught it expertly before breezing past the other team's defence an heading for a touch down. Before I could even comprehend what had happened the whole stadium was jumping in jubilation, chanting in victory as they celebrated the win.
My eyes remained unmoving on Holden as he ripped off his helmet his eyes immediately resting on mine, still grinning. The sight was breathtaking, his full lips stretched, displaying his perfectly straight set of teeth as a slight dimple appeared on his left cheek while the wind blew his dark hair into his eyes.
My view however was discontinued by a teammate of his dragging him toward the small circle they had once again formed at the corner, a balding man in the center probably their coach. I noticed as the man's eyes lit up with pride once they settled on Holden. It was not the type of pride you give a student, it was much more deeper like of a father to a son type of pride.
"Hey are do you guys want to go get some bugger with us, were driving to Bonny's" Talia asked while looking at me and Avery expectantly. We had planned to just go back to the dorm and order in and watch horrible YouTube videos, so we both agreed to eat with Talia and Ryan.
"Hey I'm going to use the restroom real quick, I'll meet you at the car" I said to Avery when I noticed a bathroom a little further away. After she pointing out Talia's bright red beetle amongst the other cars. I headed towards the restroom, my eyes flickering around in paranoia.
I was walking back to the parking lot after reliving myself when I noticed Holden talking to a blonde haired girl beside a large truck. His blank expressionless wall back up as looked at the girl with clear annoyance. I was about to turn around when his eyes met mine softening slightly but soon after the girl crushed her lips to his.
Something in my stomach dropped as the sight burned my eyes. I had no idea why I was even reacting like this, but I still felt envious and almost cheated on. I turned the opposite direction from them and made my way down the parking lot in the opposite direction from the them and Talia's car.
I removed my phone from my pocket swallowing the lump wedged in my throat as I texted Avery. I had lost my appetite at the sight of someone else's lips on Holden, which was pathetic as we were even barely friends so I had no claim over him, he could kiss who ever he wanted.
I told Avery I wasn't felling well and that she should go without me, It took some convincing but she agreed asking me to call of I needed her help.
I hastily hailed an uber needing the confines of my room immediately.
