《One Moment, One Breath》Chapter Three

Jasper and Alice stood outside of the small wooden house and knocked twice then waited for the door to be opened. A moment later it swung open with a slight squeak and a disheveled looking Aleesia stood on the other side, her black wavy hair damp and handing down past her shoulders. She looked like she had either recently showered or stood in a light rainstorm. Alice noticed she was wearing a different outfit than what she had on at school and the faint smell of lavender clung to her so she must have showered. Instead of the baggy green hoodie and faded ripped jeans she had worn earlier, she was now wearing a black tank top with the phrase 'Love Bites' on it and a pair of light gray shorts. Alice thought the girl looked adorable.
"Sorry, uhh, come in. I was just cleaning up a bit." Aleesia laughed nervously, waving them inside.
Once inside they headed for the living room area where Aleesia had set up her small couch and a coffee table for them to work on. She figured they could take the couch while she sat on the floor opposite them.
Aleesia sat, trying not to be so self conscious about her living situation but she was a seventeen year old girl living on her own. She definitely wasn't living in the lap of luxury. She fidgeted before reaching for her bag and pulling out her notebook so they could get started.
The two vampires watched the strange girl from their place on the couch. Jasper wasn't happy that she was on the floor but felt she would find it off if he insisted she sit up here with them. Jasper could feel a strange mixture of emotions emitting from the girl and he knew she was nervous but that was normal human behavior he guessed. Except, she wasn't human, exactly. He took a careful shallow breath, letting her strange scent fill his lungs and relaxed what the usual burn that human blood caused wasn't there. Her heartbeat was strange too, a little too fast to be normal, almost like Renesmee's but her scent was different. They hadn't noticed it in school where the human scents and sounds mixed with her but here, there was only them, making the difference glaringly obvious. He just couldn't figure out what she was.

They discussed the project, creating an outline and figuring out who would take what topics. They also talked and joked and Jasper found he liked the sound of her laugh. It was joyful and loud, not dainty but also still feminine. He also found he liked the odd color of her eyes. They were a warm rich brown but there were also definite flecks of gold in them.
Alice found herself enchanted by the girl. She was adorable and smart, especially when it came to Jasper's favorite subject it seemed and without even knowing her family she had defended them which caused Alice's heart to warm towards the girl.
"Can I get you anything to drink?" Aleesia asked and she stood and stretched, feeling a little thirst herself.
Alice shook her head and offered a polite smile, "No thank you."
Jasper did the same mumbling out , "I'm alright."
Aleesia turned to go to the kitchen and stumbled. Jasper's hands shot out and caught her before she could fall and Aleesia's eyes widened slightly before she breathed out a quick, "Thank you" and rushed away to the kitchen, both embarrassed and slightly alarmed.
She filled a glass from the sink and sipped on her tap water, trying to calm her racing heart before going back into the living room.
Cold. Jasper's hands had been so cold. ICE COLD. And he had moved so fast. It couldn't be, could it? But their eyes were gold, not red. She shook her head and took another sip of water before placing the glass on the counter and pushing out her senses, listening to the sounds coming from the living room. She heard them breathing, the gentle rush of air entering and leaving their bodies, but she heard no heart beats.
Aleesia gasped but stamped down her thoughts. This was a problem for after they left. She would think about it then. Until then she had to go back in there and act like everything was okay. They were her imprints right? They wouldn't hurt her, but then again she wasn't sure if vampires could even imprint. As far as she knew it was only a wolf thing.
UGH STUPID STUPID STUPID! GET IT TOGETHER! She chastised herself then headed back to the two vampires, plastering a smile on her face and doing her best to continue like everything was fine.

It did not escape the notice of the two vampires that the girl had come back into the room looking a little tense and uneasy. Jasper has tried to get a read on her emotions but they were all over the place. He decided he and Alice would talk about it later.
It was about an half an hour later when it got dark that they made their excuses and said their goodbyes. Aleesia shut the front door behind them and leaned against it, letting out a shaky breath.Okay, now she felt like she could finally have her mental breakdown.
Okay, so they are vampires. That explains why they are freakishly beautiful but it definitely does not explain the eye color or why there were SO MANY of them in high school. That's just....weird.
Addie huffed, wishing her tribe had been able to provide her more information on vampires. She didn't like going in blind. How was it even possible for her to imprint on not one but TWO vampires? Maybe it had something to do with her being half vampire? That is the best theory she could come up with at the moment.
More importantly, what was she going to do? The people she has basically been created to love and protect were pretty much indestructible. She felt kind of....useless. Did it really bother her that they were full vampires? No. Maybe it made her a little uneasy because of her history but she herself had never met a vampire and these two seemed friendly enough.
Aleesia huffed, and stomped off to her bedroom, deciding to maybe get to know the two vampires a little better before she made judgment calls. Besides, it's not like she had a choice. Destiny had chosen for her.
Across town, in their own home nestled deep into the woods, the Cullens gathered together to discuss the strange newcomer.
"Did you hear her chew into that one chick? It was hilarious!" Emmet laughed earning amused looks from his siblings.
"She looked like she wanted to tear Pria's head off." Renesmee snickered and her father nodded.
"For all we know she probably could." Added Rose who wrinkled her nose in distaste.
They all sat quietly for a moment before Jake piped up and asked, "What is she?"
Jasper shrugged, leaning into his mate who combed her hands through his blonde curls, "We don't know. She's not human. She's warm like a human and has a heartbeat but it's abnormal. It's fast like Renesmee's."
"Is she like me?" Nessie asked, sitting up a little straight with a curious look.
"Your scents are different." Alice clarified, "She doesn't have any human scent at all. It's very woodsy but also fresh? I don't know how to really describe it."
Jasper nodded in agreement. He quite liked Aleesia's natural scent. It was oddly calming for him and held no.... Appeal. At least not one that made him thirsty. Jasper glanced over when he felt eyes burning into him and found Edward watching him with an odd look on his face. Edward was feeling curious but Jasper ignored him and closed his eyes, relaxing into Alice.
There was a pause, as the family absorbed that information then Carlisle said, "Keep an eye on her but don't be rude about it. We may not know what she is but she hasn't presented herself as a danger. We will just have to be cautious."
Alice stiffened, her fingers pausing mid way through Jasper's hair as her visions from before became a little clearer now. The figure was becoming clearer, their eyes were very clear and very familiar. She had been staring at them all evening. Large brown eyes with gold flecks that were framed by long full lashes. Something had changed. A decision had been made.
Alice snapped out of it when she heard her brother Edward snicker and she whipped her head around to glare at him.
Shut it! Not a word! She hissed at him in her head and he threw his hands up in mock surrender.
Whatever Aleesia was, she was clearly going to become very important to her and Jasper if her visions were anything to go by. It made Alice giddy with excitement which caused Jasper to twist around to give her a questioning look. She just smiled and pecked him on the lips, wrapping her arms around his shoulders.
The future was looking very bright indeed.
