《One Moment, One Breath》Chapter Nine

The next morning she woke up feeling completely refreshed. Her body no longer ached and the burning pain that had been ever present at the back of her throat had dulled. Maybe her emotions had been taking more of a toll than she initially thought.
Alice and Jasper were gone, having left some time during the night, probably to hunt. Aleesia would see them at school though and the thought excited her so she jumped up from the bed and snatched up some random clothes before darting toward her bathroom. She showered quickly and brushed her teeth then pulled her naturally wavy hair up into a high ponytail. She nodded at her reflection in the mirror, approving of her choices for the day.
She wore a form fitting blood red tank top that hugged her chest nicely, showing just the barest hint of cleavage. It was cold out though and the humans would be suspicious if she wore so little clothing in this climate so she also elected to wear a red and black, long sleeved flannel shirt with just the bottom few buttons done up and the sleeves rolled up to her elbows. She elected for some fitted ripped bluejeans and a pair of brown leather ankle boots as well which she felt pulled it together nicely. If she was being honest with herself, she was feeling a little nervous and just wanted to look a little nicer for her mates.
She had just made her way downstairs and grabbed an apple when there were two short knocks on her front door. She was on her way out anyhow so she grabbed her bag and opened the door revealing a shy but beautiful looking Alice.
"Hello." Aleesia said, surprised to see her so early and confused as to what she was doing on her doorstep.
"Goodmorning, Love!" Alice happily chirped, stepping forward and placing a quick kiss to her lips before stepping back, "We came to pick you up for school!"
Aleesia, still shocked form the kiss, glanced from Alice to her driveway where Jasper was standing behind the driversdie door with an encouraging smile on his stupidly gorgeous face. She knew he was probably feeling the bubble of giddiness that suddenly shot through her and he winked, confirming her suspicions.
"Okay," She breathed, lacing her fingers with Alice who dragged her off the porch and over to the shiny black car.
"Good morning, Darlin'." Jasper greeted her, placing a quick kiss on her cheek and sweeping her with an appreciative gaze before opening the driver side passenger door for her.
She quickly climbed in and buckled her seatbelt as Jasper closed the door behind her and climbed into the driver seat next to Alice who sat comfortably in the front passenger seat.
They chatted quietly during the short drive that would normally have taken her about ten minutes but only took Jasper about six. His driving was both amazing and frightening.
Jasper pulled the car up to their usual spot, parking it next to Emmet's jeep. They all climbed out and made their way into the school. People stared and it was uncomfortable and infuriating. One persons smug, judgmental stare in particular had nearly set her off before a cold hand gripped hers, drawing her attention to Jasper who was looking down at her with concerned but understanding eyes.

"I'm okay. I can control it." She murmured under her breath and they kept walking by but not before Aleesia flipped Pria the bird.
Jasper and Alice dropped her off at her first period, each planting a quick kiss to her cheek before departing to their own classes. She did her best to pay attention in each class, making sure to take notes on the lectures. She could hear the whispers and feel the other students' eyes on her but she did her best to ignore it. She kept her mind busy until the lunch bell rang.
It took her seconds to shove her books into her bag and dart from the room, probably a little too excitedly. She couldn't help the happy feeling that filled her knowing she would get to see Alice and Jasper but also the mischievous spark that filled her when she realized it was time to start her revenge plan on Edward. She could easily just think dirty thoughts through the whole lunch period but what fun would that be? No, her plan for revenge would be much sweeter and far more entertaining.
When she got to the cafeteria the Cullen's were already seated around their usual table, every seat full aside from the one between her mates which made her smile. They were only aiding her in her plans. She went through the line and grabbed a slice of pizza, an orange and a bottle of lemonade before turning and heading for the table. Jasper pulled the chair out for her and she smiled at him before taking her seat and feeling her body relax, finally feeling at peace.
Edward watched her with nervous eyes as the family chatted quietly with each other and she did her best to keep the smirk off of her face and her plan out of her mind. She didn't want to reveal her hand too soon, plus she still needed to finish her lunch.
"So, you guys are together now? Like boyfriend and girlfriends?" Emmet asked, tactful as ever, right as she had finished chewing her last bite of pizza. She felt both Alice and Jasper tense up slightly at her sides.
She picked up her lemonade and took a drink to clear her mouth then nodded, "Yes." They hadn't actually said the words boyfriend or girlfriend but those words seemed insignificant to describe the bond between them. She supposed if she had to label it for the humans, that's what they would be.
She decided to put her plan into action, pulling her hands off of the table and setting one each on her mate's thighs, making them both relax. She felt Alice Shiver slightly, shifting closer to her side. Jasper growled quietly, too quietly for the humans but everyone at this particular table had definitely heard him. One of his cold hands drifted to her thigh as well, gently squeezing it, sending a rush of warmth through her body, making her squirm slightly in her seat.
Okay, so maybe she hadn't thought of this plan though, but it had the desired effect.
Edward made a gagging sound and slammed his head down onto the table, garnering a laugh from Aleesia as Bella patted his back and everyone else looked over at him curiously.

"What's wrong?" Rose asked, glancing between her sibling's mate and the disturbed looking vampire.
"Trust me, you REALLY don't want to know." Edward mumbled before picking his head up and glaring at the trio.
Payback is a bitch Ed-boy. She laughed in her head before allowing her memory to drift back to her interaction with Jasper the previous afternoon. The way his body felt against her. The way he had pushed their hips together as he settled between her legs. Her grip on Jasper and Alice's thighs unconsciously turned tighter as her body reacted to the memory.
"Stop! Please stop! I'm sorry, okay!" He groaned, dragging his hand down his face, looking slightly sick. "That's disgusting! I think I'm going to puke." Aleesia briefly wondered what Alice and Jasper were imagining but pushed that thought away. She was already flustered enough without adding to the inferno.
"This part of your revenge, Sweetheart?" Jasper asked, leaning in close, brushing his lips to her ear.
"Maybe." she mumbled, feeling her heated face flush brighter.
"I like this revenge!" Alice laughed, leaning her body against Aleesia, looking slightly dazed from the contact with her mate.
"You guys suck. I feel left out of the loop." Emmet mumbled, pouting. Rose smiled knowingly and patted her husband's cheek.
"Next time think twice before you spill my secrets. Believe me, I can make this much, MUCH worse." Aleesia said, glaring at Edward for a second who flinched in his seat slightly. Then her gaze softened and she added, "But thank you. I feel much happier now."
"You're welcome." Edward muttered before turning in his seat and burying his face in Bella's neck, inhaling her scent as he tried to get the images they had all been imagining out of his head. Jasper's thoughts had been the worst and he briefly wondered if the Hybrid was going to be okay with the kind of control Jasper needed to have but brushed that thought away. That was their business and he had interfered enough.
The bell for the next class rang so they all went their separate ways. They walked to History class with Jasper and Alice each linked to one of her hands. Again, she felt the stares but elected to ignore it. Their relationship wasn't exactly normal in the human's eyes so she guessed she could kind of see why they were thrown off by it. That and apparently before her, no one else had ever managed to enter the elusive Cullen's inner circle.
They walked into class and took their seats at the back. Aleesia pulled out her notes and the rather large textbook and flipped to the chapter that was written on the board under today's assignments. Her eyes scanned the text quickly, just reviewing it briefly as she had already done some research on this particular topic and she smiled, marking the page, then turned around to talk to her partners.
"So we still need to finish our project, though one of us at least seems to have an unfair advantage, "She said, sending a playful glare at Jasper who smiled back innocently. "I have a rough outline done for my part. How far have you two gotten?"
"I have my first draft done. I just need to run it by you two before I type up the final draft." Alice answered and turned to Jasper.
He smirked and leaned in, setting his elbow on the deak and resting his chip on his hand, "I finished. Just needs approval now."
"Show off." Aleesia muttered under her breath, knowing damn well he would hear her and she smiled when she saw the corners of his mouth twitch like he was going to smile.
The teacher entered the room then so she turned back around to face the front of the class and listened as the teacher started his lecture. By the end of class she was bored out of her mind and found herself absentmindedly bouncing her knee as she tapped her pencil on her desk. She was sure she was probably irritating the people around her but she couldn't help it. When the bell finally rang she sighed in relief. Normally this would have been her favorite class but she honestly just wanted school to be over so she could get away from the humans who were still staring at her from the corners of their eyes throughout the whole class. After that, she parted ways with Alice and Jasper and headed to her next class where the staring hadn't gotten any better. By the end of the day her nerves were once again frayed and she really wanted to go home.
As the final bell rang and she let out a relieved sigh, she packed her things away and headed for the door. Outside of the classroom, both Alice and Jasper waited, feeling a little concerned as Jasper had informed Alice about Aleesia's current mood. Her mood did considerably improve, though as she noticed them which made Jasper smile. Alice grabbed her hand and pulled her towards the parking lot as Jasper tailed behind them.
"Emmet wants to have a family game night so we are heading to the main house!" Alice cheered once they were all seated in the car. This time Aleesia was in the front seat and Alice was sitting behind her.
"Are you sure I'm invited?" Aleesia asked nervously, causing Jasper to reach over and grab her hand, lacing their fingers together.
Alice leaned forward from the back seat and placed a quick kiss on her cheek before saying, "Of course you're invited! Plus Esme is making Popcorn with peanut m&ms! It's one of Nessie and Jake's favorites."
"Really?" Aleesia asked, perking up a little, "That's one of mine as well."
"Then it's settled! Time for a night of family fun!" Alice's joy was almost tangible as she sat back in her seat and began humming along to the song that was playing on the car radio. Jasper gently squeezed her hand and she relaxed, joining in with Alice as the car sped away from the school, towards Carlisle and Esme's house.
