《Concealed Identity (Kageyama x Hinata)》Chapter 3

"Whats wrong?" I asked concerned as he grips my hand tighter.
"My mom called while you guys loaded on the bus. . . My dad left with all our money. . ." All of the sudden the calmness in his face is replaced with emptiness. Kageyama was always the strongest of us emotionally but his dad is a different story. His father was a very famous volleyball player known for his precise blocking as a 6 foot 5 player. Barely anyone could get past him and that's where he learned about the game volleyball.
Kageyama wants to become as well known maybe even more known than his father. It was the one thing they had in common and could bond about. But why did he leave all of the sudden and take all there money? I cant ask now. . . it might upset him even more.
I move the armrest back and do the only thing I could think of to comfort him. I pull his head down to my lap and begin brushing his hair with my fingers gently carresing his head. My mom always does this when im upset or something is wrong and every single time it helps. Kageyama takes a big breath still holding my hand.
"I'm sorry Hinata." He gently rubs his head against my lap getting comfortable.
"For what?" I ask while brushing his hair behind his ear.
"For the way I have treated you. Youve always been good to me and. . ." Before he could finish I interject.
"Dont apologize for something that wasnt even wrong. You helped me become tougher and yeah, it may have not been the best way but its tough love. For friends of course." Why the fuck did i say love?!
"Yeah. . . thank you." He says while sitting back up and gently smiling at me. His smile creeps me out a bit but at least he is trying. I smile back and hold his hand tighter.

"Thank you too Kageyama." Throughout that ride whenever we feel our hands ease, we grip the others hand tightly again. I end up eventually dozing off on his shoulder and he places his head back on mine. The bus is loud while I sleep but the only thing I can hear is my rapid beating heart and shaky sweaty palm. I didn't dream while on the bus. I just stared into a black emptiness.
When we arrive at training camp, Kageyama shakes my shoulder trying to wake me.
"Hey Hinata, were here. Wake up." I rub my eyes and lift my head off of his shoulder looking outside the window. Its about midday and I slept almost the whole way. I'm not gonna be able to sleep tonight. I rub my eyes a little more gingerly and grab my sash. I stand up strecthing and follow Kageyama off the bus. We walk into the gym to be met by Nekoma.
"Hey Hinata." Kenma greets me while looking down on his phone.
"Hey Kenma! Anyone beat ya guys today yet?" He shakes his head slightly staring intentively at his phone.
"Kenma! Get over here, we have to prepare for going against Karasuno!" Kuroo yells across the gym while stretching. Nekoma is the one team we cant beat but today that will change! I look over at Kuroo with fire in my eyes.
"Today! Karasuno will be the champs from this training camp!" I yell resulting in Kuroo smiling at me and making Kageyama brush his hand against mine and heat IMMEDIETLY rises throughout my body but I shove it back down. I look at him confusd and he does a half smile towards me. I nod my head and we all begin to head to our court stretching and warming up for the match.
Throughout the match, Kageyama didnt set up any quick attacks and his normal sets were sloppy. Coach Ukai took him out to breath and try focusing but when Coach Ukai asked him if he was ready to go back in. . . He said no. After hearing that, my heart just dropped. What happened to staying on the court longer. . . and doing it all yourself?

I begin to daze during the game. Kuroo sends a ball straight to my face and right as I make eye contact with it naiking me right in the nose. I flail backwards clutching my nose and gasoing for air. The aid bandage makes it hard to breath with my mouth that I become desperate for air. I grab my nose with one hand while standing up and racing to the bathroom. I run into a stall and take my shirt off with one quick grab. I tear at the aid bandage trying to get it off while gasping for air. I hear muffled talking and feet scattering towards the bathroom. I sit on the toilet dropping the aid bandage onto the ground breathing heavily. I loosen my bra straps a bit to allow more oxygen. I look up to see Sugawara covering his eyes, his face red.
"I uh-I locked the door. . . but uhm, y-you-should probably c-cover up. . . sorry." I close the door so he can open his eyes and I lock it. I pick up the aid bandage and stare at it while sitring back on the toilet.
"Can you hand me a wet paper towel for my nose please. . ." I mumble. I hear a paper towel being ripped from a dispenser and a faucet turned on. Sugas arm appears under the door with a large wet paper towel. I grab it and press it against my nose making it stick. Instead of wrapping the large aid bandage around my breast, I wrap it under it trying to make me seem a little bit bigger but still flat chested. Now I shouldnt struggle as much since its a lot less tight. I pull on my shirt and walk out of the stall taking off the paper towel and splashing water on my face.
"Thanks Suga." I smile and he returns it while pointing at my nose.
"You okay? You got a pretty big lump on your nose." I nod my head.
"Did you notice Kageyama?" He states.
"Yeah. . . He told me what happened on the bus. He started volleyball with his father and his father left without saying goodbye and took all his families money. . ." Sugawara nods his head in understanding.
"Hinata. . ." He says gently while walking up next to me."
"Yes?" I reply.
"Kageyama seems to be softer around you. . . I mean compared to how things used to be and how he is around others. Do you guys. . . uh, like each other?" My face begins to feel red and I try hiding it without seeming conspicuous.
"Ah! No, why would you say that?" He smiles awkwardly.
"I can tell when you lie Hinata, and your blushing." I rub my head nervously.
"You ready to head back out there? They are probably freaking out not to mention Asahi." I nod my head and Sugawara unlocks the door to reveal both team sitting there waiting for us patiently. Daichi stares at us with wide eyes. Sugawara walks up to Daichi and kisses his cheek whispering something unintelligible to him making him less tense. I walk out making Kageyama glance up at me then walk back to the bench grabbing a drink of water. I'm smothered by everyone asking me if I'm okay and what happened but I just say im okay and nothing. Just a little bump. Any other questions were drowned out as I gazed over at Kageyama looking blankly at a volleyball. Its like he isnt even the same person. . .
