Athena's POV

The following day

Max just left to go to a meeting with some Italian investors while I was just laying on the bed, scrolling through my instagram. Max has truly been showing a very different side of him lately. I am definitely not complaining.

I remembered that I am supposed to go meet Amanda in the hotel's restaurant. So I got up and got ready. As I finished, I slowly and quietly opened my hotel room door as I didn't want to alert Ethan who was in the room next to ours.

I managed to get to the restaurant sneakily and went to the woman who was standing at the door of the restaurant. "Hello I'm here for Miss Reed. Is she here yet," I asked her. "Yes ma'am will you please follow me," she said politely with a curt smile.

As we walked in, I saw the perfect platinum blonde woman who oozed sexiness in front of me. "Athena, thank you so much for accepting my invitation," she said as I took a seat. "I'm sorry I couldn't make it yesterday. I was a little busy," I said and she nodded.

After ordering our food, I was kind of getting impatient. "So what is the purpose of this meeting," I asked her as I sipped on my lemonade.

She pushed her crystal blue eyes down and sighed. "I know it would be very selfish of me but I can't just let this go. So as you know, I have been in a relationship with Max a few years ago. I had broken up with him because I wanted to focus on my modeling career. We were so in love with each other but he did what was right to do, he let me go. Now that I have already reached a stable state in my career, I want to have him back," she said. At this point my inside were heating up in anger.

"Athena, I know for a matter of fact that Max will never love anyone other than me and I'm not saying this to be cocky. I have seen his ups and downs. I know he is not capable of loving anyone because he only knows how to love me," she said. What nonsense is she talking?

"I'm sorry but why would you think that? For all I know, I am the one with the huge rock on my ring finger. I am the one who is in his arms every night," I said feeling frustrated.

"I know Athena. I am not here to turn you into my enemy. To Max, you are just like the girls that he has brought to his bed, I'm not trying to offend you," she said. "Well bitch too late I'm awfully offended," I thought to myself as I watched the waiters put down the plate of food in front of me.

"Listen it's a win win situation. Isn't it better that you save your heart from being broken and just let two people who have been in love be together and I'll give you the amount of money you want," she said making me gasp.

"Why would you think that I want money? You are crazy. I am sorry but I am going. I have already wasted enough of my time by coming to meet you," I said trying my best to stay calm.

"Athena if Max didn't have any feelings for me then why would he lie to you and come to meet me on the very first day that you guys came here," she said as she casually sipped on his white wine.

Not being able to tolerate the bullshit that was coming out of her mouth, I got up and walked out of there. She really thought that I was this dumb that I would be believing her words.

There is still a hint of doubt in my mind when she talked about Max lying to me on the first day. Did he actually lied to me about having work to do?

Heading back to my room, I couldn't help but keep thinking about what Amanda said. The only way that I am going to stop worrying about this is if I confront him. Yea no jumping to conclusion.

Nevertheless, I still have to keep in mind that Max and me are from two different background and I think that I would be stupid to think that he has any type of feeling besides probably lust towards me.

Whenever I look into his eyes, it's true that I see all those emotions but it's not like I can read people well. I mean come on, I ended up in a toxic relationship for years so maybe I have been getting the wrong signals all along. Maybe he is just trying to get into my pants. I don't want to start assuming things right now so I will just wait till he gets back.

A few hours passed and Max finally came back. As he walked in, he looked at me and gave me a sweet. I smiled back at him as I watched him take off his blazer.

"How has the meeting been," I asked him as he loosened his tie around his neck. "It was fine, we are most probably settling another deal soon," he said as he sat down.

"What happened? You look a little tense," he said as he grabbed my chin and made me look at him. Seeing his beautiful brown eyes, I crack a small smile. "I wanted to talk to you about something," I said as I started getting nervous. What if his answers are not the answers that I want to hear? Let's just hope for the best.

"You are worrying me. What happened," he asked as he stroked my cheek with his thumb. "It's nothing crazy. Tell me a bit about Amanda," I said bluntly. I didn't want to beat around the bush and just want to clear my doubts.

He pulled his eyebrows together in crease as he stared into my eyes. "May I ask why this sudden question," he said. "No you may not. I have more questions. Can you tell me about Amanda," I asked as I looked at him intensely.

"Oh shit. It's fine if you don't want to talk about it," I said suddenly regretting asking those prying questions. "No it's just sudden from you. Okay so Amanda and me started dating a few years ago and she was actually good for my image and it helped her in her career. Pretty much that's all there is," he said making me frown.

"Weren't you guys in love," I asked him and he shook my head. "It wasn't about love. Have you ever been in love before," he suddenly asked. "I am the one asking question here," I thought to myself.

"No, the only guy in my life before was Shawn and I hated him," I said. Suddenly, I felt very intrusive asking him all those questions. "Athena did something happen? Did Amanda tell me something," Max said. I looked at him as my eyes widened.

"Uh no nothing happened," I said. Why wasn't I just being honest? "Then is it about me meeting her the first day," he asked me. I just stayed silent as I looked at him.

"I happened to run into her when I was coming back and she wanted to catch up," he said making start thinking. Amanda was lying. "You guys were suited for each other right. But what happened? Why did you guys break up," I asked.

"I broke things with her because of she became a little too clingy for my liking," he said, leaving me in shocked. "She was lying to me," I said under my breath. "I know something happen. So tell me before I try finding out," he said looking intensely in my eye.

"No Max nothing happened," I said as I placed my hand on his taunt shoulder. He slowly relaxed as looked into my eyes. "I was just curious," I said and he nodded.
