Chapter 5: Kevin and Cali
It was the morning after the storm, nothing really happened last night. You and Jay both ate your spaghetti while watching 'Teen Wolf', after fangirling and debating on different characters, you both decided to call it a night and headed towards your respective rooms. Jay was sleeping in one of your guest rooms.
You woke up before Jay had and decided to make something big for breakfast, since you were too lazy to make something nice last night for dinner. You take out the ingredients to make pancakes, scrambled eggs and bacon.
While preparing your breakfast, your phone starts to ring, you notice it's a group call from Kevin and Cali. You pick it and and put in on speaker so that you could continue cooking.
"Hey guys." You greet into the phone.
"Sup bish!" Cali exclaims as Kevin replies with a simple 'hi'.
"Why are you calling me at 10am?" You question confused knowing that the both of them would most likely be sleeping at this time.
"Well we heard that the storm has passed over but the school is going to remain close for today, so we were planning on coming over to your house." Kevin explained.
You shrug your shoulders before remembering that they can't see you, "Sure you guys can come over, you'd end up coming even if I say no."
Both of them laugh at your comment, "You know us too well (Y/N)."
"We're heading over right now, so you better have some of your amazing breakfast ready for us!" Cali exclaims before yelling out a bye and ending the call.
You roll your eyes at your best friends antics before saying bye to your sensible friend and ending the call. You continue making breakfast but now for 4 people rather then just 2. You start to hum 'No tears left to cry' as you flip over a pancake, not realising a presence standing right behind you.
"Who was that?"
You jump in fear at the voice and turn around to face the culprit, your hand placed over your racing heart. "Holy cheese, Jay, you scared the fudge cakes out of me!"
Jay stares at you with a frown, "who was that?" He questions again.
You look at him in confusion before realising he was asking about the call. "Oh it was my best friends, Cali and Kevin. I mentioned them yesterday remember, your wearing the clothes that Kevin left behind. Anyways, they called saying they wanted to come over. You don't mind right?"
Jay looks at you for a few seconds before shaking his head, "I don't mind, it's your house, you can decided who comes and who doesn't."

"Okay, well I'm making pancakes and scrambled eggs with bacon, hope your stomachs empty." You grin.
The boy smiles at you while sitting down on a stool. "So, this Kevin friend of yours, do you like him?"
You blink your eyes at his question, "Um, yeah I guess, he's my best friend so obviously I like him, he's like a big brother to me."
Jay nods his head at your answer and smiles again, "it smells really nice." He compliments causing you to laugh.
"Thank you, it's actually-." You were cut off by the door bell ringing, the sound resonating around the kitchen.
"Oh, those two were fast." You mumble to yourself as your wipe your hands to open the front door.
You swing the door open to come face to face with a mob of blonde hair. "Woah! Cali! Why are you standing so close to the door!"
"I smell pancakes and bacon." She grins as she pushes you through the door and heads for the food.
You roll your eyes before turning towards your guy friend and greeting him before allowing him in.
You lead him towards the kitchen before remembering that you hadn't told them about Jay and that Cali was in the kitchen right now.
You walk into the kitchen to see Cali standing frozen and staring at Jay who just looked confused.
"(Y/N)!" Cali whispers, "Do you see that really hot guy sitting at your table too or is that just me?"
"No Cali, there is a hot guy sitting there." You chuckle.
Cali turns to look at you and Kevin before turning back to Jay, "I'm sorry, we'll be right back." She says before dragging you and Kevin into the living room, leaving behind an even more confused Jay.
"(Y/N)! Who the hell is that!" Cali whisper yells.
"Okay look, just listen to me, it's not as crazy as it seems. The boy sitting in my kitchen is called Jay. He's a homeless boy that I've seen sitting on the pavement everyday when I go home. I've spoken to him everyday and he's a nice person, then last night I saw him and remembered about the storm and invited him into my house for however long it took the storm to pass over. That's it." You explain.
Both of your friends look at you before bursting out with complaints.
"(Y/N)! You don't even know him properly, how can you invite someone you don't really know to your house. He could be a murderer for all you know!" Kevin argues.
"(Y/N), I get that he's cute and all but you need to be careful. You don't know him, you can't just invite him to stay here!" Cali yells.

"Guys!" You cut them off, "I understand your worries but trust me, Jay isn't a bad person, I've been talking with him for months now, he's a good person."
"(Y/N) sweetheart, you have the worst judgement in character, remember that girl from 7th grade." Cali reminds you.
You throw your hand up in the air, "that wasn't just my bad judgement, everyone thought that she was innocent, no one knew she would be a psychopathic animal killer!"
Both of your friends just stare at you.
"Look guys," you start of, "I know Jay is a good person, if he wanted to do something to me then he would have done it already. I get that you guys are worried but just trust me on this. Okay?"
Cali and Kevin stay silent for a few seconds before hesitantly agreeing.
You smile at the two before leading them back to the kitchen where Jay was now standing by the stove and flipping the pancake over.
"Oh hey," Jay greets as he sees you, "it looked like the pancake needed to be turned over, and I didn't want to interrupt your conversation so I flipped it over."
You thank him before taking over and watching the three of them settle onto the table as you finish off the last pancake and place the rest of the food onto the table.
"I present to thee, pancakes drizzled with Nutella and topped with bananas and strawberries along with scrambled eggs accompanied by some sizzling bacon." You playfully state as you take a seat next to Jay and across from Cali. Kevin sat next to Cali, in front of Jay.
"Ugh! You my friend, know the way to a girls heart!" Cali states dramatically, while grabbing some food, causing you to chuckle.
"This smells really good." Jay compliments as he fills up his own plate, Kevin nodding in agreement.
You thank them before filling your own plate up with pancakes and bacon. The table was silent as you all enjoy the tasty breakfast before Cali spoke up.
"So Jay, was it?" She questions looking at the said boy who nods his head, "when are you planning on going back?"
"Cali!" You scold your best friend as she shrugs.
"What? I'm just being a good protective friend."
Jay let's out a chuckle, "it's ok (Y/N)." He assures you before turning to your blonde haired friend, "and to answer your question, I plan to leave once the storm has blown over."
"The storm has blown over." Cali argues.
"Well then I guess I'll be leaving soon."
The two glare at each other, as if challenging the other to remove their gaze first. 30 seconds later, however, Cali is the first to remove her gaze as she lets out a sigh, "fine." She states simply before going back to her food.
You and Kevin merely stare at each other, not knowing what to do, as you all once again settle into silence, but this time an uncomfortable one.
You were thankful for when everyone had finished their food and helped clean up before you all made your way into the living room.
You all settle down as Kevin switches through the channels. You gaze upon the screen uninterestedly before jumping up when you saw a rerun of 'friends' on TV.
"Wait!" You yell as Kevin changes the channel. He looks towards you confused, "What?"
"Go back a channel, friends is on." You state happily.
"Hell no! How to get away with murder is on right now, it's a new episode!" Kevin argues back.
You stare at your male friend and the remote. Noticing where your gaze was, Kevin looks at the remote before hiding it behind him.
"Kevin, pass the remote, and no one gets hurt." You say as you slowly stand up.
"(Y/N) stay where you are, don't come any closer." He says as if talking to a predator.
"Kevin..." you start off slowly before jumping towards him, "GIVE ME THE REMOTE!"
Kevin lets out a small scream before running behind the couch. You both circle around it trying to see who would make the move first.
"Kevin just give me the remote."
"I'm afraid I can't do that."
"KEVIN!"
Kevin lets out another small scream as you run around in circles around the couch. He sees a glass of water sitting on the table before grabbing it and using his fingers to flick some onto you, "BE GONE EVIL SPIRIT!"
"What!" You yell confused as you grab a hold of his jumper and pull him back, causing him to stumble towards you. Using this chance, you grab the remote before racing back to your seat and changing the channel to 'friends'. You stick your tongue out childishly at your now moping friend, who mumbles under his breath.
You let out a laugh at what had happened, Kevin joining in seconds later as Cali mutters about how she is the mature one now.
However, it seems that you all forgot about one presence that was in the room, who watched the scene with clenched fists. He glared towards the boy who was sitting on the couch laughing, he didn't like how this boy seemed too close to you. Just then an idea popped into his head as a small smirk makes its way onto his face.
"Oh (Y/N), you have no idea what you are doing to me."

Letters from a Dying World
Times historic are often penned after the fact in the lifeblood of the pitiful, forgotten masses. That roiling, uncountable crush of humanity, they who held the pikes and they who threw down the tyrants. Their veins opened by gazes academic, sharp and cruel, and pecked away at with quills, written out of their own story. The Second Dark Crusade was a time of such poignancy. A time when the light of man waned and flickered, choking in the acrid smoke of its own inadequacy. As befitting of such an age it has been covered more than a capital whore, and so I attempt not to tell that story again. That story of dull, unfeeling analysis. Neither here will you find the browbeating, propagandistic screeds so common in the hands of men, the light of youth still burning behind their eyes. Nay, here I shall attempt to cover fresh ground, not tread on the grave dirt of long dead authors. Here I shall attempt to tell the story of the small lives caught, unbeknownst to them, in the great and torrential downpour that we now call history. Here lies the true story of The Second Crusade. - Loremaster Ip'Qal
