《Hybrid's Possession: Possessive Alpha's Book 1》Into the Woods We Go

Ellie
I scream after Kayden as all hell breaks loose around me. I can no longer tell who our men are, and who are Luther's followers. It's one big blur of bodies. A pull on my arm gets my attention. "Ellie, we have to go. It's not safe for you here." My brother's words are urgent.
"I'm not going anywhere until this is over." I look at him, and he must see how adamant I am on this. He concedes, shaking his head, he stands to his full height. Lifting me up off the ground he starts to maneuver us through the boisterous crowd.
"Let's follow them then, Kayden is going to need your help." Knowing my brother is right, I pick up my pace.
My feet follow him, as I look back into the crowd looking for familiar faces. Needing to know my mother, Liz, and Kayden's closest friends are all right. Unfortunately, I don't see any of them as we make our way into the trees.
There are voices coming from a few feet away, my brother stops walking and he hides us behind a bush. There in the center of the forest is Kayden fighting with his brother Lucian. Their father seems to be kneeling on the ground, one hand holding his face, and the other waving in the air. He's saying an incantation we cannot hear from where we stand.
My eyes don't leave Kayden, his brother is circling him, and he seems to have a cut on his brow. I see a shade of red dripping down his face. "All you had to do was listen to father. Do everything he said and instead of all this stupid shit, we could be living in riches. Having what ever women we want, all the power of the world." His brother says waving his arms around frantically.
"But no, you had to go and fall for some pussy, and now look what has become of us. Our brother Adrian is dead, you fight on the opposing side, and Mason is a shell of himself. What the fuck do you have to say for your actions?" Lucian's voice is menacing.
Kayden laughs with a condescending smile on his face, "first off I fell in love, finding my blood bond mate. Big difference from just anyone. Second, our family was always fucked up. We have a piece of shit for a father, I had a loving and caring mother who was forced into the life she lived and could never trust Adrian or you." He walks up to his brother calmly.

"Third," he begins as he lifts his brother clean off the ground, "I don't ever want to hear you talk about my angel like that again. Her name doesn't even pass your lips." He throws his brother across the ground, and Lucian lands right into his father.
Both men are on their backs, moaning in agony. It can't be this simple, can it? I think to myself, with a smile on my face. He's going to take down his father here, and we can just go home and live our lives.
Should have known it wouldn't be that easy, the next second there are a few more men jumping from the trees. Connor comes out from the shadows, and runs right into Kayden's back, rolling them both on the ground.
"Kayden!" I scream.
My brother has a hold of my arms, he's not letting me go. I fight him,
swinging my arms in every direction, trying like a caged animal to break free. "No, they will kill you sister. You have to stay hidden." Keith's voice whispers in my ear, but I don't hear him.
All I see is red, I'm so enraged at these men. I don't know what's going to happen to Kayden he's fighting Connor, but for some reason it's as though his powers are weakening.
"What's happening to him?" I whisper.
"I'm not sure, but if I had to guess. His father wasn't trying to open a portal at all." Keith answers my question.
"What was he doing then?" I say more to myself then anyone else.
"Putting a curse on Kayden." At my brothers' words I grow weak at the knees and fall to the ground.
Luther once again is cackling like a mental patient. His body is bent at the back, one hand along his stomach, holding onto it as his entire body shakes with laughter. "Did you really think I was just going to run my boy?" He says to Kayden, as Connor picks up his arm and drags him to his father's feet.
"Keith," I look up to my brother with sorrow in my eyes. "He will kill him, there's no doubt in my mind. I can't," my words break as a whimper falls from my lips. "I cannot live without him; I will die of pain."
I'm pleading with him now, just to let me go, and do what I can to help. I need to make sure Kayden remains alive. Even if I die here in the end tonight, he can keep fighting, and take the monsters of this world down.

Instead of releasing me, to let me go to them, my brother bends down and pulls me into his body. He holds me for a few long seconds just breathing me in. "I love you sis, don't ever forget that." It takes me a moment to understand, but before I can do much of anything he stands up and runs towards Luther and his men.
"No Keith," I drag my body along the ground, trying with everything I must pull myself up. I need to stop him; I cannot let anything bad happen to my brother. As I make my way up, I take one step in that direction, until I'm pulled back into a rock-hard chest.
I'm not positive who has me and I don't care I'm fighting them like a hellion. Elbowing their chest, stepping on their feet, trying, and failing to fling my head back and hit them in their nose. Knowing it's a man I go for the cheap shot and try to swing my leg back and hit them in between their legs.
Whoever has me must finally have enough of my antics, they lift my body clean off the ground and slam me against a tree. All the air leaves my body, as searing pain makes its way up my spine.
"That's enough Ellie, you have to let him go." Opening my eyes, I see a very pissed of Joshua in front of me.
"Kayden will kill me if I let you run out there now." He holds me against the tree with his arm.
"But my brother." I don't finish my sentence before I hear a piercing scream make its way throughout the forest. I know that voice, it's Keith. I'm so worried, even Joshua cannot stop me from ripping his arm away from my body and looking at what's going on from behind him.
There in the center of the five men, is my brother's body. Luther is taunting him, using his powers to make his body sway left and then right. He flicks his fingers, and my brother screams again.
"You little shit. You thought you could destroy me." Luther roars.
"You a pathetic little Lightning Fae? Barely have any power you're so weak." He laughs in my brother's face.
Keith coughs, giving a light laugh he says "yeah but I still cut your face with my lightning knife. So, it'll scar, and no matter how much you try to heal it, it never will completely." He looks up into the monsters' eyes.
"Every time you look in the mirror, you'll remember how a pathetic Fae like me took away your beauty. Now your outside matches the empty hollow from inside." My brothers' words echo to my ears.
I stop looking at Keith, instead look in the eyes of the monster. They are no longer midnight black, but now red like lava. "Keith," my shout makes everyone's heads turn.
Keith's eyes open and look at me, he mouths the words I love you. I begin running to him. I can hear Joshua, Liz, Martin, and my mother yelling my name, but I don't stop. I must get to him. I need to reach him before it's too late.
Luther doesn't use magic this time. No, he uses his bare hands. The world turns to slow motion, as I watch him grab my brothers head, and twist his neck until its broken. My brothers lifeless body falls to the ground.
"No!" That one word holds so much pain. So much agony I make the entire forest shake with my rage.
When I reach my brother, I bend down to his body. Grabbing his face, I bring my forehead to his. "Please come back. Come back to me." I say as I rock him in my arms.
"Isn't this touching." Luther is looking down at us. Pure joy written in his eyes.
My body shakes with sorrow, tears are freely pouring down my cheeks. Crying out into the night, I'm sure all can hear me weep. None of it matters. The only thing I know now, is the monster standing before me is going to pay for what he's done.

It is a war fought simultaneously across thousands of stars and against innumerable enemies. On smoke-filled battlefields and in the cold emptiness of the void the military might of the Imperium stands strong in the face of horrifying foes. It is not a war fought to conquer new lands, or to seize the wealth of enemy nations. It is a war fought to hold what they have, or to regain what they have already lost. The world of Nova Iberia is far from that war and supports the Imperium by sending her finest sons to foreign stars to fight and die as elite commandos in the Imperial Guard. A chance discovery on the corpse of one of these commandos has cast doubts around the world's loyalty, and has drawn the attention of the Imperial Inquisition. The seekers of the Alien, the Heretic and the Daemon have descended upon this peaceful world, and they will not leave it intact. Primaris Psyker Amelia Lafayette was a ward of the state, now bound as an acolyte to the Inquisition in recognition of her telepathic gifts.
