《The Insemination》Chapter Eleven

A week has passed since the encounter with Jason and I. Amelia and Thomas has open their home to me and never once said anything about my stay. They give me my space, and allow me to be to myself when I need to.
I've kept up with my studies as Amelia brought me every homework and notes from each of my classes. Rosa told me to take as long as I needed and Mr. Lee told me I could come to work this morning.
Rolling over in my temporary queen sized bed, I cover my face with the covers, hiding from the sun's luminous rays. Feeling like I can't go back to sleep, I roll over a couple of times and grunt.
Hearing my alarm sound, I push back the covers and sigh. Pulling them off of me, I crawl out of bed and slip into my pink cozy house shoes.
Stretching my hands in the air, I walk to the bathroom which is down the hall and to the left. As I walk down the hall I smile at the photos scattered across the light blue colored wallpaper. On a photo there is Amelia and her siblings sitting on the beach and playing in the crystal blue water.
Looking at another photo I frown sadly. The photo is of Amelia's father holding new born baby Chris in his arms. I smile at the photo remembering Amelia's father.
He was a strong, nice, brave, and gentle at the same time. He would scowl us when we do something bad, but at the same time he would laugh heartily at us for being mischievous kids.
After he fell ill, Amelia's family was never the same. He, who always held the family together, was drifting apart. Once the cancer started to take his life, the Kay's were never the same. They would fight, yell, scream, and argue when it came to Henry's health.
Henry knew he didn't have long, so he sat the family down, and told them "Have at it" and it didn't take the family long to argue. When they were finished, Henry smiled at the and told them that they must stay strong and never let anything get in the way of family. He passed away a week after.
Moving pass the photo, I wipe away the single tear that I didn't know was rolling down my light complexion. Making it to the bathroom, I flick on the light and move to the mirror. I frown at my reflection. My hair is kind of leaning to one side, as I can see a bit of sleeping crust in my eyes.
Reaching for a wash cloth on the towel rack, I turn on the hot water and wait for it to get hot. Noticing the steam, I place the wash cloth under the water and once the cloth is wet I turn the water off. Placing the hot cloth on my face, I smile at the heat of it. Once I get done washing my face, I look at myself and see that I look more alive.
Looking around the bathroom my eyes fall on the toilet and I frown. It's been about a week and I have yet to feel any symptoms. No tender beast, not a hint of nausea, or any other symptom that comes from being pregnant.

"I'm not pregnant," I say out loud to myself feeling the urge to cry. "I cannot have a family. At least not yet. God, when will I be happy? How long until I have my happiness?"
The bathroom is silent as if I am waiting for God to answer my call. At that moment my phone rings. Rushing to my room, I search through the covers until I see the caller ID.
"Hello?" I ask answering.
"Irina, you come in now!" I hear Mr. Lee shout through the phone.
"I am scheduled to come in," I say looking at a clock at the on the wall. "In about three hours."
"No, you come in now. Worker sick so you come in now," he says as he hangs up the phone. Looking at the end call, I frown. "Can you cut me any slack?" I ask looking at the ceiling. Glancing back down at my phone, it reads nine thirty.
Rushing through my luggage from home, I pull out my uniform and start to get undressed. Please let this day go by fast.

Having my wish granted, I take off the apron as I lean against the wall in the hot kitchen, as my extended shift is now over. Doing my best not to move my feet as much, they scream at me in pain. "Ouch," I say under my breath.
"Are you finished?" Jasmine says coming to my side.
Turning my head over to her, I nod my head yes. "And I am happy for it too. What about you? How long do you have?"
"I have a couple of more hours. But you need to get off of your feet because we all know how hard working more time is," Jasmine laughs.
"Yeah," I say agreeing. "See you all later," I say to my co-workers as I get off of the wall and head out of the door as I hear the goodbyes of their own.
Stepping outside the back door to the restaurant, I smile as the fact that the sun is still shining. Walking to my car, I pull my keys out of my purse. Unlocking the door, I hear my phone ring. Pulling it from my pocket, I look at the caller ID and frown.
"I am fine mom," I say into the phone once I answer.
"Oh hahaha," Amelia sarcastically laughs. "Now stop playing and tell me where you are. Thomas went to the house to check on you and he said you weren't there."
"You two do not need to check on me like I am a child. I am twenty-four you know. Also, Mr. Lee called me in early today. I just finished my shift," I tell her getting into my car and putting the key in the ignition.
"Okay. Well, why don't we go grab a bite to eat later," she says as I crank the car up.
"Sure. How long will you be at work?" I ask hearing the voices in the background.
"Another hour or so. I will try not to be long," she answers.

"Okay. See you then. Bye," I tell her as she says goodbye of her own once we both hang up the phone. Putting the car into reverse, I smile at the fact that the sun is still shining. But, I can't shake the feeling that something bad is going to happen.
Backing out of the parking lot, I pray that the only bad news I have for the day will be me not being pregnant, because I can't handle any other problem other than the one that I still cannot have my family.
*****
"Thomas," I call out as I unlock the front door. Closing it behind me I listen for any movement in the house. Sitting my purse down on the couch, I make my way to the kitchen. In the kitchen I see no dirty dishes or smell any aroma of food. Frowning, I walk to the refrigerator and notice a sticky note.
"Amelia and Irina, big fire, will see yall later. Don't wait up," I read out loud. "Just great. Amelia is going to have a heart attack." Opening the refrigerator, I reach for a Yoo-hoo and smile.
"I have never tried a yoo-hoo," I tell Amelia and Thomas as they are almost finished with the self checkout as we are at Walmart. Seeing Amelia pick up the case of Yoo-hoo, makes me notice that in all of my twenty-four years of life that I have never once tired it. They both look at me crazy as if I have been living under a rock for most of my life.
"You haven't what?" Thomas asks as I can hear the shock in his voice.
"What?" I laugh shrugging my shoulders.
"When we get back to the house you are trying one," Amelia says as a statement instead of asking me.
"So your going to force me to drink it?" I asks laughing.
"Yes. Even if we have to hold you down and make you drink it. It's two against one. Don't even think about fighting back Irina," Amelia grins.
And sure enough Amelia wasn't lying.
"Drink it," Amelia says placing the Yoo-hoo down in front of me as I sat in front of her small desk in her room.
I look at her and frown. "I don't want to," I protest.
Thomas walks in the room and stands behind me. "What are you the muscle? Gonna hold me down if I try to run?" I laugh looking at him.
"Yup," he says popping the p.
I look back at Amelia and she smiles in triumph. "You have one minute to open it," she says as her voice was saying "Or else" and I laughed.
"This is crazy."
"No. What's crazy is that you have been going through life without ever trying a Yoo-hoo," Thomas says.
"Time is ticking," Amelia grins.
Turning my head back to the yellow and brown can, I cross my arms over my chest and huff. Bolting from the chair, I rush Amelia and pick her up around her waist and spin her around. As Thomas comes for me, I use her body to block myself.
"Let me go," Amelia laughs.
"Irina, release my fiancé and no harm will be done," Thomas laughs throwing his hands up in surrender. Laughing myself, I shove her a bit off of me and try to run out the room. It wasn't long for Thomas to tackle me and drag me back into the room.
"Hand it here baby," Amelia says as she walks to me and sits on my stomach. Making a oof noise, I squirm and try to get her off of me. Amelia wasn't big at all, but me being skinny was such a disadvantage.
"Amelia," I laugh.
She shakes up the liquid in the can and opens it. "You know your making this harder on yourself," she laughs. "Bottoms up."
Amelia start to tip the can over me and as I see the liquid start to show, I close my eyes, scared of the liquid splashing on my face.
"Okay," I say giving up.
"Okay?"
"Yes, okay. Now get off me," I laugh.
Amelia waits some, but soon she gets off of me and hands me the can. Taking the can from her, I stick my tongue out and look at the can. Putting it to my lips, I start to drink and smile.
"Wow. Where have you been all my life?" I ask looking at the Yoo-hoo can. Amelia and Thomas burst into laughter as I soon join them and enjoy the rest of my drink.
Laughing at the memory, I look at the cabinet by the refrigerator and open it. Looking at the coffee grains I smile wickedly. Grabbing the bag, I smile until I pull it down and shake it. As I shake the bag of coffee grains, I only hear a small bit of movement.
"Huh?" I say as I sit my Yoo-hoo down on the counter. Grabbing the coffee grain bag with both hands, I shake it as if I was going to hear more. Again, I hear a small bit of movement. Opening the bag, I see no grains but only a small few.
"What is this?" I say as I look at the small sticky note in the bag. Grabbing it out, I sigh deeply. "No coffee for you. Try again next time. Love, Amelia," I say reading it out loud.
Balling the note up, I throw it in the coffee bag, and throw it in the trash. I am glad Amelia is looking out for me, but since I am not pregnant, coffee is the only thing I want now. Feeling a pinch of sadness, I walk to the cabinet again and smile when I see the bottle of vanilla extract, and multiple ingredients needed for a batch of cupcakes. Smiling, I start to grab the ingredients and place them on the counter.
