(Chapter Seven)
Kara flew straight back to the Fortress, her thought process was that if Clark found her there, he wouldn't be looking there again. When she got there, he was there talking to Kelex. Kara didn't realise this until it was too late and when she landed, he was already attacking her. He had her pinned to the floor but he jumped up when he realised who it was.
"Kara? I thought..."
"You thought I wouldn't come back here? Or you thought your guards killed me?"
"I thought you were dead. Alex called me last night and told me that you died, that Lillian killed you. I came here to ask Kelex to teach me the prayer for the dead. You can't be Kara, Alex said you..."
"I'm alive. But if you only just found out, then who has been holding me, hostage, the past few days?" Clark shrugged his shoulders and looked at his feet.
"Does Alex know you're alive?"
"There's something you should know."
Lena had finally broken. It was now a month since she had last seen Kara. She worried that something bad had happened but she couldn't do anything. If she told anyone that she was worried that a dead girl was in danger, they would think she was crazy. She was at the bar almost every night, being brought home by Sam, who gave her updates on a plan they had going on. Then she would spend the next day at work and head straight back down to the bar that night, to start the routine all over again.
Alex, however, hadn't broken. The first few weeks were hard but after that, she threw herself into her work. Quite literally. Every mission, she came back barely scratched but whoever she brought in was always almost dead. She hadn't touched alcohol for weeks and she hadn't seen Maggie since that one night. Sara had been a huge help in getting through the grief but every time she had to go fight with the Legends, a little bit of Alex died, thinking that she might not see her girlfriend again.

Clark had been taking food and water to Kara in the Fortress every day. He swore not to tell anyone of his contacting her, even though he thought it would have been best to tell at least one other person than Lena. Every time he visited, Kara would ask the exact same questions and Clark would answer the exact same way.
"Have they caught Lillian?"
"Not that I know of."
"Have they located Cadmus yet?"
"Nope."
"Are they even looking for Cadmus?"
"As far as I can tell."
Then Clark would wait until she finished eating and they would talk for a while before he had to leave for an emergency. Kara then sat in the Fortress, usually studying things from Krypton's history. She would go to her sleeping quarters at 9 pm and then would wake up at 6 am, ready for more reading.
Sam was really the only one doing anything important. She researched every day, tracking the Man of Steel's movements and reporting back to Lena. She knew that Kara would have told him she was alive. She knew that he would be helping her stay hidden. Sam discovered quickly that Superman would go MIA every day around Lunchtime and then suddenly appear coming from somewhere off the coast.
She arranged to have a boat search the area, lying and telling people she thinks there might be ruins in that area from a plane that crashed last year. They wouldn't let both her and Lena go, only one of them was allowed so she kept this new information from Lena and went by herself. Three days after they started searching, they stumbled upon a huge ice desert. Somehow, Sam knew that this was where her friend was. They grabbed supplies from the boat and started their search, coming across what seemed like a door after only a few minutes.

Sam knew there was something off about this place but she didn't know what. They looked around the doorway area for a way in but the only thing they found was a golden coloured key covered in snow. Each of the workers tried but none of them could lift it. When Sam tried, she picked it up without a problem. She pressed one end of the key to the place it looked to fit and the door slid open.
"Wait here. I want to go alone." Sam ordered.
"With all due respect, Miss Arias, I don't think you should be going into uncharted territory alone."
"I'm the leader of this search and I ordered you to stay here. You will do so until I come back."
They all backed away and nodded. She walked into what she knew to be the Fortress of Solitude and looked around for Kara. She was suddenly met by a robot that hovered a few feet above her.
"Imposter!" Kelex yelled. Supergirl appeared and landed in front of Sam, who ran into her arms the moment she saw the Superhero.

Virtuous Sons
The saying goes that when a man is born the Fates weave his destiny and swaddle him in it. Then one day the man dies, and the swaddle becomes a shroud. Heaven moves on. It is audacity to question the Fates. Olympus is Olympus. The land of men is the land of men. To transgress that, to cross the line of divinity and scale Olympus Mons? To defy the Fates and cast off their threads? That is hubris. It’s a mark that every philosopher bears plainly on their soul. [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge]

Domain of Man
Isolation is terrible. To feel isolated with your fellow man around you is worse. What if you were dumped in some backwards cave somewhere, completely nude, maybe with your family, or even completely alone? The age of pioneers, heroes, generals, and geniuses is long gone. Humankind has become numb to the world around it because of how paltry everything else is compared to the glory of its history, the sheer volume of their accomplishments, and the sum of its innovations. You can interact with people across the world, travel miles in mere hours, and never prepare your own food or shelter, and it's all accessible to even the normalest of individuals. Artificial intelligence is within arms reach in devices and computers and even houses, and neural interfaces aren't exclusive to the rich and powerful at this point. Someone far in the distance took notice of Earth, saw the multitude of hairless apes swarming its surface. That one went down the checklist to see if humanity had, in fact, beaten the 'game' of Life. Sure enough, they had gone above and beyond the requirements, but nobody had been watching. 'Why might that be?', that one wondered. Protocol was protocol, though, no matter how strange the situation was. They pulled the lever, they flipped the switch. It's time for New Game +. ???
