《Edge of Glory | Supergirl 1》Chapter 23

Leah sat in her mother's office, Winn had just left her to go do some filing downstairs. She was mainly waiting for Kara or Katie to show up, but neither have yet. She sighed, leaning her head further back into the chair. Her head moved up when she noticed movement in the room, "Who-Adam!"
"Leah, hey." Adam knelt down, giving the blonde a hug, "Is Cat here?"
"You can call her mother, you know." Leah mumbles, "But, she's in a meeting, she should be getting out shortly."
"Good..."
Leah stood up from her spot, using her super hearing to hear her mother and Kara coming, "I'll be right back, but it was really nice seeing you, Adam."
"It was nice seeing you too, Leah."
Leah walked out and gave her mother a look before she passed her and hid in the hall. She waited until she saw Adam pass by and leave. She walked back out, chasing behind Kara as her mother called her, "Kara, you didn't." Kara turned to Leah and gave her a worried look.
"What have you done?" Cat turned around to notice that her daughter was now in the room, but her attention was fully on Kara.
"Well, you've been writing a lot of letters but then throwing them away. And last week you threw one, I won't say at my head, but in my general direction. And I read it, saw it was for Adam, and maybe... I finished it for you." Leah had never heard her mother gasp that loud for a long time, she cringed and sat down, staring as they spoke with each other. "I know. I know this is really bad. I didn't think he would just show up."
"Who told you to think? You wrote to my son. Now, get out. You're fired."
"Mom!" Leah cried out.
"I was just trying to help you. You know my mom died. I don't get to have a second chance with her. I don't want that to happen to you and Adam."
"You crossed a line, Ker-rah. You don't know him. I don't even know him. I haven't seen him since he was a baby since his father whisked him across the country. I told you-"
Leah stood up, cutting her mother off, "You told me that losing Adam was the biggest mistake of your life."
"Ms. Grant, I've known you for a while now, and I don't think you were ever going to send that letter. And another year of you missing him would have gone by like that." Kara snaps her fingers in front of Cat's face, but regrets it instantly, "I'm sorry. Sometimes it's easier to face the past with a little help."

Cat sighs, sitting down and opening the letter, "What kind of sentimental crap did you write to him? Oh. Well, this isn't actually awful. He did come. He's here." Cat sighs, it dawning on her that he was actually there, "Oh, my God, he's here."
Kara smiles over at Leah, her attention back on Cat, "So, uh, should I make a dinner reservation, or am I fired?"
"Uh... Um. Make a reservation. And Ker-rah? I'm going to make your life hell."
Kara smiles brightly at Miss Grant, "It's worth it. Family always is."
Cat sighs, looking over at Leah, "How long have you known Adam was your brother?"
"For a few years." Leah admits, "I'd love to stay and chat mother, but you've got work. And I've got some Captain Marvel business to attend to."
"Show Crane who's boss."
"I will."
🎆~🎆~🎆~🎆~🎆
Katie stood next to Alex, wearing the same fake FBI outfits. Alex was scanning the perimeter, "Where were you last night?"
"Cooling off." Katie responds, fiddling with her bracelet, "I just saw my dad go back to jail."
"That's not the only thing, is it?" Alex asks, putting her arm down.
Katie sighs, pulling her hand away from her bracelet, "No, it wasn't."
"You know you can talk to us about this."
"It's fine, Alex. Really." Katie gave her a small smile, "I'm just overreacting."
"Katie-" Alex was interrupted by an alien attacking. "Katie, suit up."
"Gotcha!" Katie jumped in the back of the van real quick, pulling the suit right off, her super suit underneath. She set her glasses down and jumped out. She engulfed her arms and legs in flames, flying as fast as she could after the alien, but it moved much faster than she could see. As she neared the alien, she watched as it flipped a car toward Hank and Alex. She flew into them, pushing the two out of the way. Leah and Kara come flying after the alien. Katie helped Alex and Hank up, "You guys okay?"
"Yeah, go help them." Katie nodded, flying after Supergirl and Captain Marvel. Alex looked around, hearing the chatter of the new superhero. She grinned at them, "Her name's Solar Flare!"
Katie flew next to Kara and Leah, as they helped up the Senator, "Where did it go?"
"I don't know. It was just here."
"Solar Flare, do you have a visual? Is it down there?"
Katie stayed alerted, "No. Whatever it is, it's gone."
Senator Crane glared at the new superhero, "A new alien?"
"Sorry to disappoint ma'am." Katie gave her a sarcastic smile, "Mutants aren't aliens."

"Hn."
They escorted the Senator to the paramedics. Katie sighed inwardly, crossing her arms over her chest. Kara gave her a small smile, "Looks like you've got the flying down."
Katie nodded slowly, "Supergirl, about yesterday-"
"No, it's okay." Kara kept her smile on her face, "I understand you had your own things to deal with."
Leah walked over, "Leaving me to have the alone time with Winn."
Katie gagged, "That's absolutely disgusting."
"But it was good."
Kara and Katie gave Leah a disgusted look before all three flown to the DEO. Once they entered the base, they all silently walked behind the group.
"I'll tell you what happened. You people screwed up royally. And I will not be kept here."
"Madam Senator, I assure you it's for your protection. I know your friend Sam Lane talks a lot of crap about the DEO, but we're here to help."
Senator Crane tilted her head at Kara and Leah, "The General told me that for all your big talk about monitoring aliens, you're the first one to let them in through the front door."
Leah chuckles, "I guess you forgot the part where we saved your ass."
"Mmm. For all I know, you all staged that little stunt. It's just like an alien."
Kara stood up straight, "Excuse me?"
"You're all the same. Disgusting insects who've come crawling from your own diseased, backwater planets, looking to suck our resources for yourselves." Alex stabbed her with a needle in the arm, making the three girls grin, "Ow!"
"Sedative. You're welcome."
"My team and I are currently tracking your attacker. We'll keep you updated."
"I told you I'm not staying here."
"Madam Senator, as long as it's out there, you're in here. Enjoy your stay at the DEO." Hank gave her a mock smile.
🎆~🎆~🎆
"I should've let it eat her." Kara mumbles.
"It would have. It still might."
Alex stared at Hank, "You ready to tell us the whole story?"
"We're looking for a White Martian."
Alex gaped at Hank, "That thing is like you?"
Hank growled under his breath, making all girls stand straight, "It's nothing like me. That creature and its kind slaughtered the Green Martians. The White Martians came from beneath the planet's surface, bringing fire from the planet's guts. And they burned us all."
"Oh, God. J'onn I'm sorry..."
"Don't. Knowing what we're up against might just save lives. This creature belongs to a race devoted to the mission of killing me and mine. It'll be back."
Katie tilted her head in confusion, "But... But it attacked the Senator..."
"Make no mistake. I brought it to National City. As Martians, we not only share our ability to shapeshift, we share a link. If I assume my true form, or phase, or reach out to it with my mind, it knows. It sensed me when I used my powers to investigate Maxwell Lord. It attacked the rally to draw me out."
Leah crossed her arms, "Then we scared it off."
"Thankfully. Because I couldn't fight it today. I couldn't even move." Hank ran a hand down his face.
"You will next time. And you're not alone." Katie says, messing with her bracelet.
Alex gave her a nod, "We'll find it. In the meantime, we'll keep Senator Crane here. It's the safest place around."
Before the three heroes could walk out, Hank stopped them, "I have to ask something of you. I should be the one to face this thing. But if I reveal myself it'll mean the end of my life as Hank Henshaw. And if Hank goes, General Lane gets the DEO. And you know what that means."
Kara smiled at Hank, completely understanding, "You've had my back a million times. I've got this one. I'll bring it in."
🎆~🎆~🎆~🎆~🎆
Katie walked into the office was but immediately stopped by Winn, who was jumping up and down, "Look on the news."
"What?" Katie walked around Winn to look up at the TVs, "Oh."
"Seems like we've got ourselves another hero. Today Senator Crane was attacked by what seems to be a new alien. Our new hero who calls herself Solar Flare-"
"Miss Grant was so upset that she didn't name you." Winn smiles at her, "But wow, I didn't know you could look so badass."
Katie laughed in amusement, fixing her glasses on her face, "I'm unsure if I should take that as a compliment or not."
"Complement, definitely." Winn gives her a nod, "I'm so happy I've got a superhero sister, superhero friend, and a superhero girlfriend. I am the luckiest man on earth."
"Hmm." Katie mused, raising an eyebrow at him, "I'm sure."
"I am."
"Well, I guess you've got to be careful then."
"What?" Winn scrunched his eyebrows together, "Why?"
"What happens if you piss one of us off?"
Winn paused, watching his sister walk off, "Oh jeez..."
Leah walked up to him, hugging his waist and giving him a small kiss, "Hey."
"Hey, aren't you going to dinner with your mother and Adam tonight?"
Leah shook her head, "No. I said it was better for her to speak with him alone."
"I mean, back up would be nice for her."
"My mom needs to face this by herself." Leah pushed her glasses up her nose, "She has been avoiding Adam for years and she needs this."
