《Edge of Glory | Supergirl 1》Chapter 32

Katie inhaled deeply, rubbing her head as Hank spoke, "Black star alloy. That kind of technology, this guy's definitely not from around here."
"So why is he killing other aliens?" Kara asks, putting her hands on the table.
"These victims aren't just being killed." Alex adds in, her arms crossing over her chest, "They're being executed."
"And they're all from Fort Rozz." Kara sighs loudly, "That professor he took seemed harmless enough."
Hank pulled out his tablet, reading the profile out loud, "Real name Luzano. Drug smuggler, until your mother put him away."
"Not the week for you to discuss my family." Katie got silent, her eyes flickering between Hank and Kara. She took note that Kara seemed to be taking Astra's death harder than Leah did.
"I'll start questioning our Fort Rozz criminal alumni again."
Alex nodded, wanting the tension to be broken as soon as possible, "Anything we get we'll cross-reference with the weapons left at the scene."
Agent Vasquez walked over to Kara, "Ma'am. Excuse me. There's someone asking to see you."
"Can we tell Max Lord that I'm not at his beck and call?"
Agent Vasquez pursed her lips, "That's not who wants to see you."
Katie looked at the guards as they escorted James in, she gave him a small smile of acknowledgment, which he returned with a curt nod, but his gaze was directed at Kara. Kara tugged at her bracelet again, looking over at Hank's retreating form. She noticed how Alex, especially Alex, seemed to really dislike Kara's harsh attitude toward Hank. Her phone buzzed in her pocket, she pulled it up to her ear, "Hey, Winn-"
"I hate doing your work."
Katie laughed lightly, "Yeah, I know."
"No seriously. How come your work is a lot harder than mine? I mean what is all of this?"
"Miss Grant gives me all that work, why not ask her?"
"Yeah, no, I'm good. Also, the new mini-cat, she's been looking at your desk each time she passes it."
Katie pressed her brow together, not particularly understanding why this was important, "Okay? We share a desk you know, maybe she's checking you out."
"No." Winn's voice cracks on the other end, "I'm pretty sure she knows that Cat Grant's daughter is dating me."
Katie snorted, "Did Leah make that clear?"
"Yeah." His voice rose, "Very clear."
"Better be clear."
Katie laughed at the sound of Leah's voice in the background, grumbling an annoyed addition to Winn's declaration, "I'll come back to work tomorrow. How does that sound?"
"Absolutely phenomenal." Winn's content sigh came out as static, but Katie still knew what it was, "So can I stop doing your work for the day?"

"Sure, I'll email Miss Grant that I'll do an extra load tomorrow. I'm sure she'll be fine with it."
"I'll make sure my mom is okay with it."
"Thanks, Leah..." Katie paused, "Winn, can you put Leah on the line?"
"Alright."
Katie listened as the phone moved, "Are you... as mad as Kara is with Hank?"
Leah sighed loudly on the other end, "I'm not mad. I'm grieving, yes, but what if Astra killed Alex or Hank? How would Kara feel? She'd resent Astra and grieve over Alex and Hank. In either situation, something bad would have happened. I can't blame Hank for protecting himself and Alex, I don't have the right. I wasn't there, I didn't see what happened. But... for the most part, I miss her more than being mad at Hank."
"It just... Kara scares me when she is this way." Katie glanced at the glass room, watching as James and Kara spoke, "James seemed just as worried."
"She'll come to her senses. I mean, it's Kara."
"I hope so."
"Katie... I'm going to be leaving for a while."
"What are you talking about?" Katie questions, her posture suddenly straightening, "Leaving? Where?"
"I'll be back in two weeks, I just need to clear my head. I've already spoken to Winn about this and I left a letter back at your apartment for Kara. I'll probably go visit Clark, maybe kick some ass as Captain Marvel over there-"
Katie breathed in deeply, "Leah, I understand, this grieving has to be really hard on you, especially since it was your mother. Does the DEO know?"
"I informed Hank, despite his dismay on the matter, he is still allowing me to leave. He did want Kara and I to be off for a while."
"Then go." Katie smiled, messing with the bracelet on her arm, "I'm sure Solar Flare can assist Supergirl."
🎆~🎆~🎆~🎆~🎆
Katie was dressed in her DEO attire, rather than her suit. She followed behind Alex, no weapon on her, but Alex did want her to wear a bulletproof vest for safe measures. They didn't know the extent of her healing and didn't want to test it.
"Detective Draper, I'm going to need you to step away."
Detective Warren squinted his eyes at Supergirl, "What do you think you're doing?"
"Catching a murderer."
"You're out of your mind!" Detective Warren cried out, anger fueling his vocals, "I'm one of the good guys!"
"He's telling the truth."
Katie couldn't react, a bullet pierced her chest, causing her to fly back and into darkness.
"Aunt Alura, what is the prince like?"

Aunt Alura gave her a tight smile, almost unsure if she should answer her truthfully, but she chose otherwise, "He is a dashing young man, with excellent manners. He will treat you like a princess."
"That's not what I heard from Uncle Zor."
"And what did you hear, Leah?"
"That the Prince is a wild partier, who only cares about how many women he can bed and how much alcohol he can consume."
Aunt Alura's face scrunched up, "Your Uncle was simply joking..."
"He was not." Came the rebuttal, "I've heard you talk down upon the Daxamites, just as everyone else has."
"Katie." Alex shook Katie's body, "Katie, get up."
Hank's voice echoed in their ears through the comm, "Agent Danvers, Agent Schott, are you there?"
"We're here." Alex pulls the bullet out of Katie's vest, making her release a groan, "We've got an officer down."
"Are you two alright?"
Alex breathed, "He took Kara."
Katie groaned louder, pulling the vest off, even if it revealed her bra underneath, she looked down at the large bruise on her chest. She put her hand on it, and when she pulled away the bruise was healed. She absorbed the radiation from her bracelet. She zipped the suit back up, "Let's get back to the base."
🎆~🎆
Alex paced in the room, as she looked up information, worry obvious in her expression, "Twelve hours from the exact time the last alien was kidnapped to his time of death. Which means she doesn't have long."
"Your sister wasn't his target," Katie says, she had changed back into her super suit, which was basically the same as her DEO suit, other than the colors.
"Well, maybe that doesn't mean anything to him." Alex barks, but quickly calms herself giving Katie an apologetic look, "We have to find her."
"And we will. When I promised Jeremiah Danvers I'd look after his daughters, I wasn't only talking about you."
Alex nodded gravely, "We have a face, but we still don't have a match. Draper's prisoner file could have been corrupted in the crash. Unless..."
Katie rose an eyebrow, "Unless?" She urged.
"What if Draper wasn't a prisoner?"
"A guard," Katie speaks up, her feet moving so she stood next to Hank.
Hank's hands moved to his hips, "I thought they were all killed by the prisoners when Fort Rozz crashed."
"What if one got away?"
Katie moved over to the keyboard, searching through the many faces, pulling his up, "Draper was a guard. Originally from the planet Trombus. Technologically advanced weapons manufacturers, which explains the RoboCop suit." Katie was proud that she had memorized quite a bit from the database, "His father was a guard. His grandfather before him."
"This job is in his blood."
"And still is. He's trying to re-create Fort Rozz here on Earth. With his rules."
Vasquez came walking up to them, "Draper's been jamming his GPS signal when he's off duty."
"Did you unscramble it?"
"He's been spending time at a cabin 80 miles northeast of the city."
Alex looked at Katie, "When we arrive, survey the area."
"You want me to fly?"
"Yes, just don't burn down the forest."
Katie rolled her eyes, following Alex, "Easy for you to say." Katie ignited flames at her hands and feet, flying into the air. She followed the black vans, noticing that some people had spotted her as she flew. She pushed forward, once the vans stopped, she flew around. Searching for anything suspicious. She found nothing, she went back down to the ground, walking into the cabin, "I found nothing."
Alex cried out, letting her anger get the best of her, "There's nothing here!"
Katie paused when she felt radiation seep into her, "There's something below us. I'm pulling energy from it."
Alex's eyes flittered down to the floor, a red light was glowing below them, "Give me that crowbar." She slammed the metal into the hardwood floor, pulling up the planks, "His ship. It's underneath the cabin." Her head moved over, "How much C4 do we have?"
Katie looked down at it, her hands engulfing in flames, "I can get us in."
"Let's go."
Katie flew down on top of the ship as Alex and the other agents were being lowered down. She put her hands on the ship, overheating the metal until it burst open. Allowing them to breach into the ship. Katie flew in, landing by Kara, "Hey."
"Took you long enough."
Katie was slammed into the cage by Alex's body, she released a loud groan, as Alex was dragged away. Katie looked at the man with a glare, she ran over to him, curve stomping into his side so he fell away from Alex. Alex grabbed her gun, shooting round into the roof, allowing the sun to shine down on Kara. Draper got up, aiming his guns at Katie, shooting rounds at her, but it didn't hurt her, she was absorbing the energy from it. "Guess that doesn't work on me."
"Solar Flare! Move!" Katie ducked out of the way as Kara ripped the door off of her cage, she stomped over to Draper, taking him out.
Pardon me." All females turn their heads to Luzano, "And now, may I ask what happens to me?"
Katie laughs, "That's all on you, Kara."
"I'll meet you back home." Kara smiles at Katie, taking Luzano and flying out.
