Lena's POV
"So, how are you? You weren't in a good place when we last saw each other." I struggled to maintain eye contact with my monstrosity of a mother.
"I was in a good place. A morally good place. That's why you don't see it as good because you are a monster."
"It wasn't my fault Lex died!" She raised her voice and stepped forward half defensively and half threateningly.
"Yes, it was. Your actions got him killed. You sent him into the line of fire, into the bomb that was inside his car. He was taken to our hospital, dying. Kara tried so hard to save him. She almost did save him but because of your stupidity, he is dead!" I yelled, trying to maintain a calm stature until she would leave me to my pity but I was failing.
"Lena, don't tell me that it's my fault. If it weren't for you leaving our plan, I wouldn't have had to put him in danger."
"So now it's my fault because I wanted to be a doctor instead of a criminal?"
"I am not a criminal. I am more like Robin Hood."
"Oh, yeah, Very much like Robin Hood. 'Steal from the rich and give to the self'." I turned and sat back down at my desk. "I have a lot of paperwork to do. You can leave the same way you came in." I pointed at the door but she didn't move, she just looked at me.
"I'm sorry to do this, Lena," She said sarcastically. I gasped when a dart hit my shoulder. My vision went blurry and I struggled to keep my eyes open. The last thing I saw was my mother's smile and the last sound I heard was her villainous laugh.

I woke in a bed that was shaking violently. I quickly realised that I was in some sort of vehicle. I sat up and looked around, memorising the room before pretending to go back to sleep as quick because I could after I heard the door open. I shut my eyes tightly and faced the wall as the loud footsteps made their way towards me. They stopped at what I estimated about a metre from where I was.
"Lena, wake up!" A hoarse voice yelled, making me jump. I faked waking up and rolled over, facing the angry man.
"Hank. Can't say I have missed you." My head started pounding and I blinked a few times. I put my hand to my head instinctively but Hank obviously caught onto this based on his next.
"You're going to have a headache for a while. The drug your mother gave you is a nasty one. You haven't changed a bit..." He started but before he could finish, I jumped up and leapt on to him, knocking him to the ground. I punched him multiple times, thanking the lord that my devil of a mother had forced me to take 'self-defence' lessons. I jumped up and stared at the unconscious man on the floor, wondering why in the world my mother hired this guy.
Then I ran out the door to find a hallway that went both ways. I decided to go left and I ended up at a door that led me outside. I felt my eyes widen and my breath was taken from me as I stared out into the sea. I followed the deck of the ship around until I reached where I could see where the ship was docked, I ran to it and jumped into the sea near the dock. I didn't want to risk being seen. When I hit the water, I immediately blacked out and dreamt of a certain blonde angel.

Journey Towards Dao
What is infinite, possessing no beginning nor end? What is imperceptible, appearing both indistinct yet intelligible? What is indecipherable, unable to be interpreted or understood? What is quintessential, unfathomable, eternal? What is Dao? The main focus of this story is detailed cultivation, professions, and combat systems. It's a slice-of-life with a cultivation system that delves into psychological aspects (including minor psychopathic/sociopathic elements). Protagonist is the low-key sort. Be prepared for a slower start. This is my first ever experience writing fiction. I'm trying my best to put out quality content initially, but my main goal is to improve. Comments, ratings, and reviews are greatly appreciated!

Homecoming | A Chronicles of Ascension Story
When Jethen was captured by slavers, his childhood was torn from him and left shattered half a world away. When he finds himself back home decades later, by methods he does not fully understand, he finds that the life he has lived has changed him far more than he knew. In a home he no longer knows. Places and people at the same time familiar and foreign, he must decide - stay and help with his parent's business, or return to the land that remade him and the family he made there. --------- Homecoming started as just a short story to break an episode of writers block. It has since morphed well beyond that into a novel in it's own right, and may well end up with a sequel. The writing of Homecoming became a bit of a self induced challenge to improve my initial, first brush, writing quality. Each chapter was written raw, given a once over read and edit, and then posted. In this way I am forcing myself to write better from the start. I do hope you enjoy the story and will leave a comment or review, and if you see an issue, feel free to let me know as well. I know it is not nearly perfect, and it will get a full and proper edit once I am done. Never hurts to fix things along the way though. As an additional note. The story has undergone a structural rework and has been reposted in an updated structure and sequence of chapters. If you have read this story already, I invite you to do so again in this new structure.
