Sirens started blaring outside and iris turned and glared at him. Roman felt relief flood him. He was going to get out. Iris growled and he flinched.
"Oh hell no." She grabbed romans arm tight and dragged him towards a closet. He tried fighting her but the drugs in his system weren't out yet so he was drowsy. She opened a hidden door and threw him down. "They won't find you." She chained his arms above his head and gagged him and threw the door closed. He shook his head and tried to pull away from the wall but couldn't. Suddenly the door burst open and he heard people and screaming. He heard the cops arresting iris and he struggled against the chains as tears filled his eyes. Iris was laughing at them. He heard them asking about him and she wasn't responding. No don't leave the room please. Tears fell down his cheeks as he heard a cop say all clear. He stopped struggling and started to cry harder.
"Roman where are you..." Roman looked up and started to struggle again. No Patton please don't leave the room. Roman screamed through the gag and tried to bang on the hidden door with his feet but he couldn't reach. She knew what she was doing when she made sure his arms were above his head..she wanted to make sure he couldn't kick the door. He was in pain but he cried out anyways.
"Wait...officer!" Roman stopped crying. Please don't leave me alone.
"We already checked in here, I'm sorry he's not here."
"There was something...are you sure?" He heard the cop leave and suddenly he lost all hope, Patton definitely gave up when the cop said that. He heard the closet door open a few minutes later and he looked at the secret door. "Ro...is...are you in here somewhere?"

"Sir, please this is a crime scene you can't be in here. You need to cut the delusional bullshit he's not in here we already searched every inch of this house..." He heard Patton sigh and he heard footsteps leaving the closet. He wasn't getting out of here, and he knew that. Iris was right. They wouldn't find him until it was too late.
***Logan***
"I'm so glad you are safe" Logan held Virgil and cried into his arms. "I promise I won't ever leave you." They heard screaming and they turned and saw Patton screaming at iris.
"WHERE IS HE!" Patton shouted. Iris smirked as they shoved her into the car.
"Somewhere you will never find him."
"Wait who..." Logan looked at Virgil confused. Virgil looked at Logan and smiled sadly.
"Romans alive, iris had him trapped somewhere..." Virgil looked at Patton as he walked over wiping his face.
"He-he wasn't there Virgil, w-where could he be?" Patton started crying harder.
"You'll find him." Virgil hugged Patton and then looked back at the house. "Any objection to me sneaking into a crime scene?" Logan sighed.
"Virgil-."
"Alright, I'm going." He pulled away from Logan and ran through the door without the cops seeing him.
"Oh my god." Logan sighed again and put his head in his hands.
"He's your son." Patton chuckled.
"Oh hush." Logan smiled at the paramedic when she came back over.
"You are alright to leave, just be careful on your leg and make sure to not strain it too much." Logan thanked her and they walked towards the car. He looked at Patton with a raised eyebrow when he saw Remus sitting down on a tree stump next to the car.

"What?" Patton asked. Logan continued walking with Patton and when they reached Remus Patton rolled his eyes. "I thought you'd be gone by now."
"Aren't you going to turn me in?" He asked. Logan looked at the two and then back at Remus, Patton sighed and looked back at Logan.
"It's not up to me, Logan?" Patton went and walked away. Logan looked back at Patton as he walked away confused.
"Wait Patton what-."
"He means, it's all up to you if you guys turn me in or not." Remus started to play with a random stick he had in his hands. "So...want me to?" Logan sighed and sat down next to remus on the stump.
"Look, after all you've done...you do deserve it." Remus nodded and went to stand but Logan grabbed his arm and pulled him back down. "But," Remus looked at him confused. "You did save Virgil. You may need a fuck ton of therepy-." Remus chuckled. "Okay? it's gonna take awhile for me to actually be around you after..." Logan looked away. "But I'm not going to turn you in." Remus smiled.
"Thank you Logan, but really I-."
"Don't deserve it? Please I know that... I should turn you in but...I'm not going to. You've got one more shot at this and if you fuck it up, I'm calling it." Logan looked over at the house and sighed. "Fucking hell virgils been in there awhile..."
"We can't enter it's a crime scene right now..." Patton walked over with Janus.
"We can distract?" Janus suggested.
"That could work.." Logan mumbled.
"This can also go very badly." Patton mumbled.
"Guess we just wait a little while longer..." Remus mumbled. We all sat down and looked over at the house waiting for any sign of Virgil.
****Virgil****
"What the fuck have they not seen these secret passageways?" Virgil sighed as he looked through the fifth one he's found. No sign of Roman. He crawled back out and walked towards the room Patton had mentioned the police searched and found iris. He has to be there somewhere. Virgil walked in and looked around, seeing the closet door closed. "Roman?" Virgil walked into the closet and started tapping on the walls like he did before. He heard something muffled and almost started to cry. He tapped the walls again and again until something clicked and the wall slid open revealing Roman, gag in his mouth, his arms above his head and his legs chained together and up against the wall. "Oh god..." Virgil grabbed a heavy object and placed it in front of the hidden door. He pulled the gag from Romans mouth.
"T-thank you Virgil." He cried out. Virgil wiped his tears and smiled.
"Didn't think we'd give on you did you?" Virgil asked with a smirk.
"They made Patton leave though how did you-."
"I snuck in." Virgil shrugged.
"You snuck...into a crime scene? And Logan just let you? What the fuck..." Roman smiled and shook his head. "I need to have a talk with him about his parenting skills man..."
"Like you are any better." Virgil and Roman looked up and saw Logan standing in the doorway with his arms folded across his chest. Virgil chuckled. "Now let's get you out of these chains..."

Trickster's Tale (Book 1): Is That A Lute In Your Pocket will release on Kindle Unlimited on the 10th of May.Due to KU's exclusivity rules, I've had to take most of book 1 down.Book 1 Bard's Ballad takes place in the same extended Universe as my other story, The Houndsman. It's set on a distant 'disk', though. As a result, the magic system is unique in comparison and has a harder LitRPG system. While the story utilises stats, it doesn't take them seriously and occasionally makes fun of regular LitRPG mechanics.
