Movement on the other side of the bed wakes me. I turn over, facing a sleeping Tupac.
The cover is almost over his whole head.
As I sit up I pull the cover down so I can see his face. This is the only time I've seen him completely at ease. No worry or stress written on his face.
Just rest.
Last nights events wash over me. I smile to myself a little.
Lesane is a gentleman.
He insisted that we wait to have sex, and I guess he's right. Thats the best thing to do. So after we had our fun, we watched a little TV and he fell asleep, I did soon after.
I try to get up from the bed as quietly as possible, but just as my feet touch the floor, I feel the back of my t-shirt being pulled.
"Where you going?" Lesane's sleepy voice makes me turn to face him.
His eyes aren't even open.
"You want something to eat?" I ask.
"Mhm." He mumbles sleepily, before turning over.
I smile to myself a little.
"Well you gotta get up because I'm not bringing it to you." I say, before shaking him slightly.
He groans.
"Stop." He whines.
"Get up." I laugh, pulling the covers off of him.
Lesane yawns before getting up and sitting on the edge of the bed. My eyes trace over his back tattoos, making me bite my bottom lip softly.
He gets up from the bed slowly and faces me. The Tupac I know is back. Worry and stress written on his face once again.
"What time is it?" He asks.
I shrug.
He fumbles around the room looking for his wrist watch, he finally finds it underneath the blanket. His eyes widen as his gaze fixes on the time.
"Fuck." He spits, grabbing his clothes, putting one piece on after the other.
"What's wrong?" I ask, furrowing my eyebrows.
"I got something to do." He says, before grabbing his keys and leaving my room.
I follow him, not sure what to say or do.
Tupac stops at the door and looks at me.
"I'll call you. Igh?" He kisses my forehead and walks out door, closing it behind him. The sudden silence of my apartment makes me frown.
I don't know what I expected from him.

Tupac
"You might wanna stay from round here for a while man." Grant says. "The police came round here and found the detectives car before I could crush it." He adds.
"Did they ask you questions?" I stuff my hands in my pockets, leaning against the hood of my car.
"Of course. But I told em ian know nothin, that I wasnt on duty the day the car showed up out here."
"Igh then ima have to move it. Where is it now?" I ask.

"They took it." Grant says.
Fuck.
Sander's body was in the trunk of her car when I got ole dude to drive it up here.
"How long ago was this?" I ask, massaging my temples.
"Round nine AM yesterday."
I nod, starting to get into my car. "Grant, one more thing. If you even think about saying my name to the police, life gon get real bad for you." I say, before starting my car.
~
"Are we doing this last hit or not man? You been walking around with ya head up ya ass like we ain't got shit to do." Que says.
Normally I would buss his fucking head for talking to me like that, but its getting too hot around here now and I need all my niggas to stay on my side.
I'm more than sure that the opps gonna find some way to trace that body back to me, and when they do I gotta have my story straight.
"The cops got Sander's car in they possession." I say.
Que, Jay, and Raheem all look at each other.
"Thought you said you was getting rid of it." Raheem says.
"Grant said the cops pulled up on em. Took it before he could get anything done." I say.
"So what we gon do?" Jay asks.
"Wait." I say.
"Wait?!" Que spits, standing up from his seat. "We just gonna wait for the mother fuckers to come get us?!"
"We can't afford no more heat. So yea. We gonna wait and see what we hear about the car and the body." I say.
"Well I think we should go ahead with the next hit, show em we ain't scared." Que says, folding his arms and looking down on me.
I stand up too.
"Did I ask you what you fucking thought?"
He stays silent, but his scowl tells me something, something that ima need to watch out for in the future.
"That's what I thought."
After getting dressed I decide to call Jamie from my house phone.
Its been weeks since I heard from her and out of all the times I called her I never got a call back.
She doesn't answer of course.
Maybe I should just go to her place. I'm really worried.
I grab my keys and head for the door. I have a few hours to kill before I have to be at work so if she's home maybe we can grab something to eat and catch up.
I'd love to know what's been keeping her busy.
As I pull into her driveway I notice that her car is here, but it looks like it hasn't been driven for a while. One of the tires are flat and the car itself is just dirty which is weird. Jamie goes to the car wash at least once a week.
But there's also another car in the driveway, one I've never seen before. Its a 1954 Mercedes Benz. Neither one of us know somebody who could afford a car like that.

I knock on the door.
At first there's no answer, but just as I'm about to knock again, a guy opens the door.
"Can I help you?" He asks, his tone low and husky.
This man doesn't look like he's from around here at all. He's light skinned with the most hypnotic eyes, he looks very put together, that has to be his car.
"Umm is Jamie home?" I ask.
He smiles a little, leaning against the door frame, his shirtless torso becoming more apparent.
"Who's asking?"
"I'm her best friend. Who are you?" I try to hide my frustration but I feel it becoming visible.
"DeVante." He says, his eyes looking me over.
"Is she home or not." I ask, making him smirk.
"I don't know. Is she?"
I roll my eyes before nudging past him into the house. It smells like weed and booze.
"Jamie?" I call out, walking towards her bedroom, I hear DeVante walking close behind me.
When I get to her bedroom there she is, lying across her bed half naked. Her eyes barely open.
"Dri." She slurs, sitting up.
I glance behind me at the guy who's leaning against the wall. He has a smug expression on his face.
I glance around the room. There's prescription bottles on her night stand and empty bottles on the floor. "Jamie are you okay? What's going on?" I ask.
"I'm fineeee." She says.
"You don't look fine. I've been calling you for weeks. I was worried." I say, fumbling through her dressers, trying to find something for her to cover herself with.
"De's been taking good care of me Adrienne." She says, pulling the shirt over her head that I handed her.
"You heard the lady." DeVante says.
"Are you sure? Do you need anything from me? I can stay if you need me to Jay, this isn't okay." I say, a slurred laugh escapes her lips.
"I'm fineeee."
I just stare at her, glancing back and forth between the both of them. I'm not gonna be able to get through to her, not while she's like this. I sigh, before leaning down and hugging her.
"I'll be back tomorrow to check on you, okay?"
Jamie just nods and lays back onto the bed. I turn around, facing DeVante, who has a playful smirk on his face. He gets closer to me, his eyes tracing every inch of me. He leans in and whispers:
"I could take care of you too."
I smack him as hard as I can. This mother fucker has to be sick, and whatever he's got Jamie on will not last much longer. I'm coming back to get her.
He holds his face, a deep laughter vibrating from him.
"See you tomorrow Adrienne." He says, as I walk out the door.
~
I look down at my watch as I sit in my office at BC. Adrienne should be here for her shift in a little bit, and after the day I had after leaving her place, I need to see her.
Waiting to hear news about the car got me on edge.
Not knowing what they next move might be is driving me up the wall, and something's telling me that they gonna connect the fucking dots and ima be in hot water.
A soft knock sounds on the door.
"Its open."
Adrienne comes in, but the lightness she normally carries with her is gone.
"What's wrong?" I ask, as she sits down in front of me.
"Nothing, I just had a rough day." She says, pulling her hair over one shoulder.
"Come here." I say, scooting back from the desk, she sits on my lap. "You wanna talk about it?" I ask, but she shakes her head no.
"I wanna talk about how you left me this morning." She says, a weak smile forming on her face.
"I know. I'm sorry igh. I forgot I had something to do." I say, pulling her closer, she lays her head on my shoulder.
"Well.. Are you coming over again tonight?" She asks.
Part of me wants to tell her no. I have too much to worry about and what if the police come looking for me while I'm with her. I don't want her tied up in this shit. They'll think she has something to do with it and it'll be my fault.
"Yea.. I can if you want." I say.
She doesn't say anything back so I take that as a yes.
We sit there in comfortable silence for a while before someone knocks on the door. Adrienne tenses, but I tighten my grip on her a little so she knows she doesn't have to move.
"Its open." I say.
Kiada walks in, a envelope in her hand. Her eyes narrow as she see's Adrienne.
"What you need?" I ask, making her clear her throat.
"Nothing. This was in the mail." She says, before tossing the envelope on my desk and leaving my office, slamming the door behind her. Adrienne looks at me, but she doesn't say anything.
"You should probably get down there. We're open." I say, letting go of her.
"Yea you're right." She says, getting up and fixing her uniform. My eyes look over her body before I turn away. "I'll see you later." She says, before leaving and closing the door.
I hear the music turn on downstairs and I scoot back up to my desk.
I glance at the picture of me and my mom.
"I wish things was good between us. I really need your advice right now ma." I say, holding the picture in my hand.

NEVER SPLIT THE PARTY: The Adventures of The Creeping Bam (BOOK ONE: The Job)
TAO is a broken world held together with nothing but magic and the will of the gods who protect it and its people. Then thousand years ago THE SUNDERING struck and Tao was almost torn apart by a terrible magical cataclysm which resulted in the planet almost being halted in its journey through the cosmos. It took all the power the gods of Tao could muster to restore its orbit and set it turning again, but in their efforts it was forever changed – its axis was drastically altered, and it now spins in such a way that one face of the world is forever turned from the sun it orbits, leaving half the planet in perpetual darkness. The various humanoid races that survived and now thrive within the habitable parts of THE DAY LANDS have come to live in perpetual fear of what lives beyond THE BORDERLANDS that separate them from whatever dwells within THE NIGHT LANDS, but for ten millennia it has kept its secrets. The land of RUNDAO languishes under the rule of their warlike Northern neighbours, the TEKTEHRAN EMPIRE, while a small, ragtag band of motley adventurers ply their mercenary trade fighting monsters and protecting the common man from the various dangers that haunt the night and prowl the hinterlands on the edges of civilization. THE CREEPING BAM have amassed a modest reputation in their years together, but they’re still just a small-time party of sellswords, thieves, outcasts and mages. They’re also exactly the kind of underdogs the people of Tao doesn’t yet realise are needed to save the world from the encroaching darkness they doesn’t even know is coming … This is a love letter and homage to the high-fantasy worlds of the tabletop RPGs like Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder and Warhammer and the sword & sorcery cinema and literature I fell in love with as a kid growing up in the 80s, from Robert E. Howard’s Conan the Barbarian (and the awesome Schwarzenegger movie, STILL my favourite fantasy film EVER), The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit and Ron Howard and George Lucas’ Willow, to the more grown-up and edgy worlds of grimdark masters George RR Martin and (my all-time favourite) Joe Abercrombie, as well as a BIG DOLLOP of Terry Pratchett’s immortal Discworld series. IMPORTANT: This story contains material which some readers may consider to be mature, such as battle violence, some strong language and occasional mild sexual scenes. If this is not your kind of thing, this story is not for you. I am also serializing this story on Tumblr, Wattpad, Quotev and Sweek.
