'Sometimes, the things, the monsters we're running from, they simply come to us, face to face, and that moment, we get to know, that...running isn't the only option...and that,
We'd have to face those monsters, maybe alone, one day, someday.'
Jungkook was roaming around the streets, with a black mask and beanie, hiding his identity well. He was attired with a grey loose t-shirt, and black pair of jeans, and worn-out shoes.
He walked alongside the road, looking for any sort of job, he was even ready to serve as a maid, such was his need, to gather up the money. He didn't have much time anyway.
While walking, he came across a restaurant/cafe, where the placard showing, 'Workers needed' was hanging. He fiddled with his shirt a bit before going inside.
The door had a bell sound, and Jungkook felt the stare of people him. He didn't look up, just kept looking down. He reached the main deck area where a guy looking like a simple worker was sitting.
Jungkook went and stood there,
'Hello sir, how can I help you?'
JUNGKOOK- U-uh, I'm h-here for j-job. I s-saw a p-placard out t-there.
The guy surprisingly smiled, and
'Please wait a second. I'll go and check whether the manager and owner are free or not.'
Jungkook nodded.
He stood there, in the corner, letting people book tables and have fun. That's when he noticed a family coming, a father, a mother, and a kid, around 16. They were all smiling and laughing. They booked a family table for 3, and went and sat down. Jungkook followed them with his hooded gaze, feeling his heartache. Oh, how he wished to be that happy?
But no...he didn't deserve it or did he?. Cause whoever loved him left him.

He was shaken out of his thoughts when the former guy spoke to him.
'Come with me, I'll take you to the office.'
Jungkook began to follow the guy, and they reached a much empty area, a wooden door with a glass window in the middle. The guy knocked and they heard a 'come in'.
'Sir he is the guy.'
Jungkook kept looking down, his hands behind his back, and waited for the person in front of him to speak.
The manager or whoever it was might have motioned the guy to go since now only Jungkook and that man were in the room which made the boy feel tense.
'Hello, Jeon.'
Jungkook looked up so fast, he was sure his neck did crack a bit, but it didn't matter for the person in front of him did the work of scaring the shit out of the boy. He stood up from his chair wearing a nice smirk on his face, whilst Jungkook tripped on his own feet, fell down, and began to crawl backward too.
'N-n-nooo...'
The man bent to his level, holding his chin harshly, and
'You lied! You lied, you bitch! Now, see, what we'll do to you! I gave you enough time, already, my boy.'
He punched, kicked, and simply beat the Jungkook badly to the point where it was unbearable for the younger to even breathe. That's when Jungkook began to cough up blood, the pain becoming too much to handle.
'Oh, look, weak already. Just wait and watch, this is just the beginning.'- the male said showing fake concern, with a psychotic smirk plastered on his face.
The man harshly grabbed him by his hair, which made Jungkook whimper as he got on his legs, and then two men entered the room, holding the boy, and taking him outside, not from where he came in but from behind the restaurant. He was thrown harshly into the same black van and injected with a sleeping drug.

In no time, Jungkook was lying unconscious, on the floor of the van, while a man from the corner looked at him with a neutral expression, beneath the mask he was wearing.
However, his hands twitched, as he turned them into fists and took a few deep breaths thinking about the work he had to do.
'He was back, in the clutches of no one else, but the...evil.'

Nero Zero
Monsters plagued the lands for too long. No matter if one had fangs, beak, teeth, skin, fur, or feather, or was tall, stout, or diminutive, the people suffered. Until the Gadgeteers came with a device that could allow people to fight back. Powered by one's own magical power, feeding off of monster Essence, the Arbitrium bracer turned the tables. It also changed society. Strength of one's level cap was all that mattered. The strongest were Kings and Emperors. The weak or those too poor to afford the marvelous device, destitute. And so it has been for millennia. All that mattered was one's level cap. High, low, a fate decided the moment the strange contraption came alive. Too high and you were a threat to those interested in keeping the status quo, a weed to be nipped before it could grow and take root. Too low and you were nobody, fated to be a bit more than a simple farmer. What if someone, somewhere, came up with a zero for their level cap? Unable to use Essence, unable to level up. On all of recorded history, it never happened. Until it did. In a small village of fur-less and tail-less ape-beastkin, a boy found out he was uniquely handicapped. Nero's level cap was Zero. But he'd never let that stop him from reaching his goals. ------------------------------------------------ All stories have already been told. We merely reuse elements from them. From Joseph Campbell's Monomith to Stephen King's advice, and that encyclopedia of tropes you've visited, fiction has been dissected and reassembled countless times. One will surely find elements inspired on other works here. Just like cooking from basic ingredients, the recipe and presentation is what really matter. This is a fantasy adventure, of someone that goes from a zero to a slightly bigger zero. It will have romance but no harem. Cruelty but with hope dimly shining ahead. Lightweight where it can be, heavy where it must. Thanks for reading. Cover Credits (The cover is CC-BY-NC-SA): Steampunk Spider Bracer, by Daniel Proulx.
