《Dazai x reader - sleeping beauty》Part 6

Nearing you and Atsushi's apartment complex, Dazai suddenly picked up speed and wabbled slightly. "Something the matter Dazai-san?" You asked rushing your pace to catch up with his troubled waltz. "May I borrow your key... I need to um... rush inside to use the restroom!" he looked over at you holding his croch and bouncing side to side. His face was puffed and red. You saw the desperation in his eyes and handed him the key, "please don't forget to return it I kinda need-" "THAAAAANKS!!" He exclaimed rushing off key in hand. "What an odd dude." You said as Kunikida caught up with you. "You'll get used to it." He said warmly. "I wonder what he meant by 'paying a certain someone a visit'" "Well, Atsushi lives in the apartment directly next to me" you answered beginning a pleasant conversation. "Isn't that convenient" Kunikida commented. A smile formed from your blank expression feeling you could become close to this gentlemen eventually... though perhaps gentle wasn't the best way to describe him. "Do you think your boss will hire me?" You asked a bit nervous, "It's all up to him, but honestly..." Kunikida cleared his throat nervously, "I think he'll accept you..." he looked away nervously, his face obviously turning red. You thought it was cute how easily it was to fluster him. "I'm glad to hear that." "Oh, hey there guys!" Atsushi said closing the door behind him. "Thought I heard Dazai-kun a few seconds ago..?" You and Kunikida looked at each other with knowing expressions and laughed. "He had to use the bathroom really bad." You answered. "That sounds familiar" Atsushi said rolling his eyes. "I was just about to head out on a job with Kyouka-Chan!" "Kyouka?" You questioned unfamiliar with this name. "Ah! That's right, you two haven't met yet, why don't you join us in this job? It's an easy one, probably best for newbies." He smiled warmly. You thought about it for a moment, "I suppose I'll tag along..." you answered uncertainly. "Don't worry! I'm sure you'll be just fine!" He promised with a bright smile. You nodded and continued to your apartment. "Just one moment please." Kunikida and Atsushi glanced at each other confused.
"Dazai-kun!?" You called entering your apartment. "Right here!" Dazai chimed back. He had removed he's jacket to reveal his vest and collared shirt he wore underneath, his sleeves where rolled up revealing more of his bandages. "Are you bothered by something..?" He asked taking note of your slightly red face. "No" you answered bluntly. Dazai smiled, "Why don't we go and see about Atsushi then?" He said heading for the door. "Oh actually," you began rushing to stop him, "he invited me to a job with him and Kyouka-san." "Oh how lovely! I think I'll join you. After all, the more the merrier!" You only watched as he made his way to the exit. You noticed his coat folded on the floor next to a pair of shoes and picked it up just before following quickly behind him. You held the coat to your chest suddenly noticing the pleasant smell. You held it close to your nose letting your nostrils enjoy the scent for a moment. When Dazai turned and noticed this, he smiled pleasantly. "Ah my coat- that reminds me." His sudden attention towards you startled you a little. "About those bandages I mentioned earlier, I have some at my place. We could stop by for a bit... just you and me~" A mysterious smile swept his face as both Kunikida and Atsushi gasped in shock cringing slightly. Kunikida tugged you by the wrist and Atsushi pushed you with both hands from behind eager to get you away from the devil before them. "Oh nooooo!" Dazai exclaimed playfully. "I cannot allow such blasphemy!" Kunikida protested trying his best to protect your innocence. "We'll just be off now." Atsushi said speeding up his pace. Once again you closed your eyes tight as you let out a halfhearted laugh and everyone "awwwwww"ed, even Dazai who was upset you where being taken from him. "How many times must I remind you- you cannot keep a young lady in your house" Kunikida rambled making you blush at the big deal they where making of the situation. "Well if you insist." Dazai lifted his hands to point out the fact that he had nothing in them and shook his head innocently.

At HQ, there was a young girl dressed in a kimono with long purple hair awaiting the arrival of Atsushi. So this must be Kyouka. You thought to yourself. She was very small and cute, you where about a half a foot taller than her. And you thought you where short. She looked up into your eyes. "So you're new too?" She was really pretty. "Yes, my name is Okae Takano." You forced a polite smile. "Your cute." She stated bluntly without expression. Everyone around you smiled and nodded. You shook off the ridiculous claim. "That's irrelevant!" You said a bit flustered. You liked the compliments they gave you every now and then, but it was a bit of an embarrassing surprise when you least expected it. Especially since you didn't agree with the kind gestures. Dazai placed his hand on your head and ruffled your hair. "Looks like we're all going!" He said smiling excitedly. "Well, it was really only supposed to be the three of us..." Atsushi objected anxiously. "Well now it can just be just the five of us!" Dazai retaliated happily. "That's about half the organization..." you said hopelessly lowering into a slouch.
On the drive (in a taxi) to the destination of your current job, you had a lot of time to think to yourself since Dazai and the rest of the crew sat messing around in the back seat. You were curious about each individuals abilities and in what circumstances they felt suited the need to use them. (I guess you just know...) you considered.
"Something troubling you miss?" The kind old taxi driver questioned causing you to look up into his squinted eyes. The car became quiet for a moment, everyone wanted to hear what your answer would be. With the pressure on you, you simply shook your head and brushed the question off with a good old, "Oh, no nothing at all." The driver laughed with his usual gruff voice, it gave you the kind of comfort only a kind elder could provide. "Looks like we're here!" He said moments later. Stepping out of the car, you handed the man a tip and smiled kindly, "thanks for the ride, keep the change!" The man tipped his hat and drove off.
You where in the middle of a wooded area which became darker as the sun set. You began to wonder if you where really cut out to handle a responsibility involving dangerous encounter, what could you expect from a detective agency? Atsushi's warms smile provided you with a warm reassurance, "It's kinda nice! I've always dreamed of camping at a place like this!" A glint sparkled within his eyes as he daydreamed happily. "Only you, Atsushi-kun" Dazai said disappointingly shaking his head, "I dream of the perfect suicide swaying in the wind beside a beautiful woman in a flawless Sakura tree surrounded by a mysterious sea green~" his hair romantically blew in the wind as he spoke kneeling down to grab your hand. "Uhhhhhh..." you said stepping back wirily. Kunikida stomped his foot in agitation as he waited for Dazai to stop fantasizing creepily. "We have a job to get done, now lets get going!" Your mind was snapped back to reality once Kunikida spoke these words. Dazai closed his eyes and smiled confidently while sliding to his feet and turning to face Kunikida. His thumb and index finger mad an L shape outlining his chin, "why you are indeed correct, good sir!" His playfulness put everyone at ease except Kunikida who clearly was in no shape to be amused by that fool. "Now, lest we continue moving before the sun is no more-" his poetic humor only agitated Kunikida more. "You idiot!" He couldn't hold back, he began chasing Dazai in circles to no end. You rolled your eyes seeing this was going nowhere. Kyouka approached the circle of which Dazai and Kunikida where running in, and stuck a foot out to trip the both of them. You weren't expecting such a bold move from such a meek young girl, but looks could be deceiving, and in this case that statement proved true. The quarrel was silenced by a scream in the distance, perhaps a mile or two away. Dazai's expression changed almost instantly as he returned to his feet and began running.

Everyone followed behind him. You where scared. You saw the sweat forming on Atsushi's face as he maneuvered around trees, rocks, and other obstacles. You where the slowest one next to Kyouka with your short legs. You suddenly became more concerned about the protection of the group than anything else, so you sped up and eventually ran beside Dazai. "Was any of this expected?!" You yelled making sure Dazai could hear you. "Psh." Dazai cracked his sideways smile, "every mission is like this." He sped up playfully mocking your short legs, but you where fast, so you swallowed the last of your energy and sped past him.
Once you arrived at the scene, you saw the body of a woman swaying in the wind by the branch of a tree perfectly wrapped around her neck. "What the hell?!" You asked taking a step back. "Sorry, looks like I got here first." A tall man said stepping into view. His attire reminded you of innocent little kenji, however his eyes where much more menacing. A thick tree branch emerged from his neck in an almost ungodly manner. "Step back!" Kunikida said jumping in front of you. "Atsushi, lead these ladies to safety!" Dazai commanded his face holding a much more serious expression than you where used to. He pulled his hands out of his pockets revealing his long fingers and cracked his knuckles preparing for battle. "Come on let's go!" Atsushi said tugging on your sleeve. He held Kyouka under his arm as her expression was unchanging. "GO!" Kunikida demanded urgently. You desperately wanted to help, but part of that was only because you wanted to prove yourself. How selfish. You looked over your shoulders as you began to run. You saw Dazai standing confidently, his hair flowing against the winds strong force. For a second you thought you could sense his eyes in your direction, but you knew it was only your imagination.
