Chapter 22: Picnic Date!
Once I was home I saw a note from my parents saying that they were on a mission to help the FBI track down a criminal and wouldn't be home for a few days maybe more they were not real sure. Anyway that meant I had the whole house to myself and could get started cooking without being interrogated...or so I thought. The twins for some reason decided to come and only visit me but stay at my house and be right in the middle of me trying to cook.
"So whatcha cooking?"Amy asked leaning over my boiling noodles.
"It's not for you two!" I said a little irritated.
"That's a little rude. We are your friends after all." Ashley said leaning against the counter next to the fridge.
"Yes I know you two are my friends and so I know how you guys are. So please don't mess with the food I'm cooking. You can stay here if you want but don't bother me too much and if you are hungry I have leftovers in the fridge." I said starting on the dessert.
"Ahhh...So this must all be for Lash huh?" Ashley said opening the fridge and grabbing my leftover pizza.
"Speaking of which...Is he taking you to homecoming?" Amy asked sitting ontop of the island in the middle of the kitchen and swinging her feet.
"Actually we haven't talked about it." I said grabbing basket to put all the food in and order to carry it all to the park for our picnic date.
"Well you are going to homecoming no matter what! If he doesn't take you we will!" Amy said wrapping her arms around me like a child.
"Well can we talk about this later so I can finish cooking before I'm late or burn the food?" I asked peeling her off of me and started to drain the noodles.
"Yeah don't want to ruin her date with Lash now." Ashley said grabbing the 2 litter soda that I picked up earlier for my date tonight.

"Give me that! You two can have the 2 litter Dr. Pepper. The Mountain Dew is for Lash." I said taking it from her and putting in the basket.
"Ugh fine." she said grabbing the 2 litter Dr. Pepper.
"Wow it all smells good." Amy said as I finished cooking and put everything in containers and in the basket.
"Thanks. Ok now do I have everything? I think so ok I gotta go. You guys can stay here if you want but don't destroy the house ok?"
"Ok." They said together.
"Great bye guys see you later." I said rushing out the front door and straight to our tree in the park.
*30 minutes later*
"Aww NO! I'm so late! I hope he's not mad at me!" I said to myself as I got to the park.
I walked to our tree but didn't see Lash, I walked around it but no signs. I called his name as I looked up but no response and I couldn't really see him up there.
"Did he go home?..Well I was late so I don't blame him." I said putting the basket down and sat down myself leaning against our tree wrapping my arms around my knees as I felt a few tears start to form.
"Hey don't look so sad." A familiar voice said filling me up with warmth.
I looked up to find Lash kneeling in front of me.
"Sorry I fell asleep while waiting for you and didn't wake up until you called me name. So sorry of not answering and sorry if you thought that I left and went back home or stood you up. But believe me that I would never do that. I'll wait for you until the day I die." he said leaning in and pressing his forehead against mine.
"Now what do you say we dig in?" he said wiping my tears away.
"I'd Like that." I said as he sat down in front of me and grabbed the basket and pulled everything out.

"I'm sorry...I forgot a blanket." I said looking down again starting to feel sad that I'm ruining this date.
"Hey!..." he said grabbing my chin and making me look at him.
"We don't need one. And don't look so sad. This date is amazing and it's all thanks to being here with you. I love you Mary so stop apologizing and looking down. Ok?" he said kissing me lightly but softly.
"Ok." I said smiling as we parted from the kiss.
And so we ate together. I made spaghetti and meatballs with Dr. Pepper and then for desert I made double chocolate fudge cake. He may not seem like it but he has a really big sweet tooth.
"I don't think that I can ever stop being amazed with your cooking." he said making me look down to hide my blush.
"You don't mean that."
"No I really do! You are truly an amazing cook."he said finishing off the cake.
"Thanks...and I'm sorry for being late but the twins were over and well you know how they can be." I said pushing my hair behind my ears.
"Yeah they are more like kids then teenagers. But hey I said it's ok. I'll wait until the day I die and even after that if need be." He said getting closer to me.
"You are such a sweetie." I said smiling as I started to put everything back into the basket.
"So we finally had our picnic date and it has been the best one ever." he said lifting my head up and kissing me sweetly with so much passion and love; which may have lead to a make-out but that is not the point. The point is that I felt so much love in that kiss.
After our um "Kiss" we started to walk back towards my house together, in my right hand was the basket, my left was holding on to his right hand and in his left hand were flowers that he picked from a bush we passed and he thought about giving those to me once at my house.
"Oh yeah! I almost forgot!" I yelled out stopping as we got to my doorstep.
"What is it?" Lash asked a little worried.
"I was meaning to ask you about something."
"About what?"
"Homecoming! The twins brought it up...and they asked about us and I sai..."
"You are not allowed to go. STAY HOME!" he said interrupting me and squeezing my hand tighter.
"What? Lash..wh...what are you?...What do you mean? Why can't I go?"
"YOU JUST CAN'T OK! I WANT YOU TO STAY HOME WHERE YOU'LL BE SAFE!...you can tell your friends to stay home if you want but please don't go to homecoming....Here. I'll see you tomorrow at school. Get some rest ok. I love you Mary." he said kissing my cheek and handing me the flowers and then left without another word.
I was so shocked and stunned that I walked in the house and just dropped the basket and flowers on the floor then went straight to my room and collapsed on my bed staring at the ceiling and the worst thin of replying what Lash just said was I could read his mind and was the same thing with just as much anger. Is he mad at me? Himself or someone else? Ugh!
"Is everything ok?" Amy asked walking in.
I turned over away from her and stared out the window as I felt tears start to form.
"I think that it's best if we leave her alone tonight....Mary...I mean Star. We will talk to tomorrow at school ok. Love you bestie." Ashley said from the doorway.
"We love you. Hope everything works out." Amy said and then they both left.
Lash left, the twins left and my parents are on a mission and wont be home for a few days or longer. I'm all alone...truly alone. I said before finally crying myself to sleep.

Galactic Economics
Humanity enters the galaxy and makes First Contact, only to begin to realize that not everything is at it seems. It appears that the galactic alien community has forgotten to invent some rather important economic concepts that human civilization has taken for granted. This is a look at a hypothetical galactic scale barter economy, how that would work, or how as one of our main characters Sarah realizes... it doesn't. And as the galaxy falls apart at the seams, it's up to the best and brightest in humanity to put things back together. Story contains a lot about markets, logistics, development, and the best and worst of human history. Not so much Space Marines nuking aliens. If you enjoyed the trade negotiations and Senate politics in the Star Wars prequels, and wished that there was an entire standalone story consisting solely of those parts, this might be for you! Galactic Economics is also posted on reddit here.

Madness Led by the Hands
‘Great, no… splendid. It was for naught.’ ‘Naught? Depends. If your desire is to send an army of killers our family’s way, yes indeed. If it’s plain survival you seek, then no.’ ‘They don’t coexist?’ ‘What… don’t tell me you’re still all groggy from the fall. Perhaps in novels, but real life is much tougher–––many more times a drag than anyone can possibly imagine. If dusty history is not a reliable teacher for you, then the pandemic surely took that place. At least that one has the advantage you needn’t be literate to savvy how reality always trumps imagination.’ ‘Whatever you say, whatever you say. So… what now?’ ‘Now? Isn’t it obvious? Now we shall survive. And live a good life.’ ‘Ohh… pretty much everything here has something against this little weird wish of ours. Might you consider?’ ‘Then pretty much everything here is a goner.’ ‘Hm, I don’t like the sound of that. Too much trouble, you see. I’d prefer laying low somewhere safe.’ ‘…nobody told you it’s mutually exclusive, no–––or did you forget about that too?’ ‘Fine, then I wish my future enemies all the best.’ ‘They are undeserving of your pity.’ ‘Of course not. That unlucky bunch won’t ever comprehend the reason behind their demise. Just let me smoke in peace and offer my condolence in advance.’ ‘Idem, let me study alchemy, unobstructed by all, if possible. This also includes you. By the way, are you sure you smoke to offer condolences? It seems like an excuse to me.’ ‘I-it is none. Plain truth, you see?’ ‘Seriously, why did I even ask...?’
