《Soulmates | S.M.》22

"Ooooo she'll take your name and number then she'll hit erase, and walk away" I was listening to Particular Taste on the plane, my eyes beginning to shut close. Shawn and I were on our way to Hawaii, a week before my cousin's wedding, since I needed to get my bridesmaid dress fitted.
I felt a hand press on my phone along with a soft chuckle. Then, a hand held the side of my head as a kiss was planted on the top of it.
A smile creeped on my lips. I heard Shawn say, "Can't ever get enough of me, can you?"
My eyes opened and I saw Shawn, to the right of me, smirking. "You can't ever take a girl away from her favorite music"
I leaned my head against his shoulder, falling asleep.
----------
A sudden rumbling underneath me caused me to wake up. I gasped, surprised by all the movement, and felt a hand caress my arm in comfort.
"Shhh. Honey, it's alright. I'm here"
I opened my eyes and placed my hand on Shawn's, squeezing it a bit. The light of the sun rising shown through the window, illuminating Shawn's face with an orange tint.
"Did you have a good sleep?" He asked me.
"Yes, I did. Did you get any?"
"Mhm" He brought my right hand to his lips, planting a kiss on it.
We got our stuff from the overhead compartment and went off the plane. The second we got off, leis were placed on our necks. I got a pink one and Shawn got a blue one. We grabbed our suitcases and had an Uber bring us to our temporary home for the next week. Shawn and I decided that we should go all out on this trip and stay in a private villa.
We got to the villa, the sun fully up now. We brought our stuff down and entered the house. The moment you step inside, there is an open floor plan, the living room closest to you which is connected to the kitchen and the family room. At the far right of the large room was a door that led to the bedroom which also had a large bathroom connected to it. The whole back wall of the house was made of glass and had a large sliding doors that led you to the porch which had a hot tub and access to the beach.

The sand looked super soft and clean while the water was a bright, light blue. "It's so pretty here" I spoke up, speechless.
Shawn walked up next to me by the window, sliding and arm around my neck, leaning his head on top of mine. "Yes. But not as pretty as you"
I smiled, softly chuckling. "Will you ever not be cheesy, Mendes?"
"I don't know, Sinclair. I'm just speaking facts"
I turned towards him, putting my arms around his neck. I grinned at him and planted a soft kiss on his lips. He went back in, more passionately this time. He pulled away for a second, mumbling, "Jump". I did as I was told and he quickly carried me, my legs wrapping around his waist. He walked us toward the bedroom, laying me down softly on the white comforter on the bed. He was about to take off my grey hoodie when my phone started ringing in my pocket. Shawn crashed, laying in the spot next to me. "Do you have to answer it?"
I pulled out my phone and showed him the screen. It was Elena, my sister. "Kinda, yeah" I pressed the green button on the screen, putting it on speaker.
"Hello?" I asked.
"Alana! Are you here yet?"
"Yeah. What's up?"
"We're about to go in for the dress fitting. Give me your address and I'll pick you up"
"Okay, cool. Sounds like a plan!" I hung up the phone, looking over at Shawn. "Sorry, love. Looks like you're going to have to be patient"
He pouted his lips at me. "Its fine. Can I come to the fitting?"
"I mean. You can, if you want. It's going to be all the girls though"
His pout turned into a full grown frown. "Fine. I'll let you spend time with your family but promise me that you'll let me do something for your birthday tomorrow"
"My birthday?" I said as more of a statement than a question.
"Yeah. April 14th, right?"
I nodded my head slowly. "How'd you remember?"
"How can I forget? You're turning the big 2 0 tomorrow. You need a celebration"
I thought about it for a second. "Fine. But nothing too extravagant. I don't like making a big deal out of my birthday"

"Why not?"
"I don't know. I've always just been the type to relax on their birthday than to throw a huge party. Anyways, I need to go get ready" I sat up, squishing his cheeks then heading to the bathroom.
------
"What's taking you so long?" I heard Elena on the other side of the dressing room door.
"Patience! It's only been like two minutes. I just need to zip it up" I looked at myself in the mirror. The dress was absolutely beautiful although it did need some alterations since it was a little big at the waist. The dress was dusty blue color which was tight at the top and flowed down below the waist. It was a v-neck type dress that exposed my chest a little and clung to my shoulders with straps that were a little thicker than spaghetti strap.
I zipped up the back of the dress and opened the door, walking out of the dressing room and going to my cousin, sister, and the rest of the bridesmaids, mostly consisting of Isabella's friends, who were all sitting at the couches waiting for me.
I twirled for them. "How do I look?"
They all looked at me in shock. "What it is?" I asked.
"You look amazing" One of them spoke up; I think her name was Luna. Isabella went up to me and put her hands on my shoulders.
"My baby cousin. All grown up" She gave me a frown.
"Heyyy. I am only a couple of years younger"
"You're still my baby cousin. Come here" She pulled me in for a hug.
Isabella called for the tailor to alter the areas needed so that the dress fit me in the right places.
-------------
The fluffiness of the pillows and the comforter surrounded me, like a cloud on a day filled with blue skies. I finally reached another checkpoint in my life; my twentieth birthday. To say the least, I was very excited but it was going to be weird not being classified as a teenager anymore. I was half-awake, not wanting to get up just yet because I was completely exhausted after running last minute wedding errands with Bella last night. A phone in the room started ringing as I felt the brush of Shawn's hand against my waist. "Alana? Happy Birthday"
"Yeah? Thank you, love" I mumbled into the pillow.
"It's your mom. Do you want me to answer"
"Mhm" I said, my voice escalating in pitch.
I heard the noise of Shawn picking up the call, presumably a FaceTime call. "Hi Mrs. Sinclair"
"Hi Shawn! Is Alana there by any chance?"
"Yeah! Here she is!" I felt his hand on my shoulder. "Alanaaa" He said, singing my name. "I know you're awakeeee"
I pulled off the comforter from my body, sitting up, and squinting at the phone due to the brightness of the light in the room.
"Sweetie! Happy Birthday!"
I smiled at her. "Thanks Mom!"
"Tonight, we're all going to have a family dinner to celebrate. Is that alright?"
"Sounds perfect"
"Alright, honey. Can I please talk to Shawn?"
"Sure" I responded, handing the phone to Shawn. He took the phone from me and went to the other room. I wonder what they're talking about. Not thinking much about it, I shrugged it off and went to the bathroom to brush my teeth and get ready for the day.
I was standing in the shower, allowing the hot water trickle down my back. I was standing there for a good five minutes, entranced by the warmth of the water but was soon brought back to reality when the door of the bathroom opened and Shawn walked in.
"Shawn!" I yelled, my voice echoing. I covered my private areas with my hands.
"What?!" He looked shocked.
"I'm taking a shower"
"Oh. Honey, there's nothing to worry about. It's not like I haven't seen you before"
I relaxed a little, realizing that I overreacted. "You're right. What's up?"
"I got you this dress and I want you to wear it today" He held out a long, light blue dress that had white, blue, and purple flowers scattered all around the dress.
"Oh, it's beautiful! Thank you, love"
He smiled, content with himself. "Of course! I'll just set this down here and wait for you to finish up" He placed the dress on the bathroom counter then walked out of the bathroom, closing the door behind him. I completed my shower and finished getting ready for the rest of the day's events.
