a friend and i sit side by side on our friend's bed like two stuffed animals placed as props for a high school musical play that none of us auditioned for. we both observe as she ties her silky dark hair into a ponytail, she's so pretty. her mother then walks in, tray in hand and tells us she's made some snacks. she sets the tray on the bed, revealing snacks any empty stomach would die for. my friends each grab a sandwich and there's still more left but i hesitate, thank you but i already ate. i reject in the most kindest way i know how, shifting my focus to the laptop's screen just trying to avoid any pair of eyes possibly set on me. i raise the volume a bit high as we continue to watch a movie while in truth i pray the world swallows me.
