《Whodunnit ?》Chapter 8 - The Battle For Information

The eleven guests all walk out to the front of the manor and Notice a small table
"It is time for the second riddle of this game ." Giles elaborates on 'game' very lightly.
Giles glances down at the note from the killer and reads it out loud.
"Before Giles are eleven balls
Each holds the location of these halls
But Only one will hold the clue
And will provide the answer for only a chosen few
Once you arrive at the all-important location, it'll all be clear
The clue will be waiting for all of you to cheer."
The eleven guests all dashed towards the eleven balls and each picked one.
The eleven split up into their groups and each checked who had what location. " What do you have?" Greg asks the group.
"Hannah's room," Nelson says.
"The kitchen," Brianna says.
"The front yard," Alec responds.
"The pool." Michelle peeps.
"The great room." Reynold read out the font on his ball.
"The BBQ," Talia says.
"Ok, we'll I've got that lift from the hallway." Greg quickly looks at his ball.
The group all fidgeted around, wondering which location they should try for first. "Wouldn't it be the barbecue?" Talia plays around with her ball in her hands.
Michelle nods "There's a good chance it'll be the barbecue. Let's go!" Michelle sets off jogging to the backyard.
The rest of the group followed her through the great room, where the other group of Courtney, Jamie, Dan & Natalie was sitting and straight into the backyard.
"What have you all got?" Natalie asks the other three members of her team.
"The morgue," Courtney mumbles slightly.
"The dining room." Jamie flips his ball so Natalie could see.
"Well, I got the theater room." Natalie turns to Dan after revealing her location.
"I got the parlor," Dan says.
"Ok we need to pick an area quick," Courtney announces to the group.
"Let's just try the morgue, it's the place that relates to the murder the most." Jamie hops off the stairs and starts walking towards the morgues direction. The rest of the group follow.
-
"Where the hell is the barbecue!" Talia sighs frustratingly, noticing that the barbecue wasn't in its usual place.
"It couldn't have just vanished!" Alec desperately started looking in all directions, but there was no barbecue in sight.
After a few more moments of desperate looking, Reynold drilled the team. "Guys! It probably got trashed because Hannah's body was in it. Come on let's go! We're going to go to that lift." Reynold jogs back inside the manor and up the staircase.
-
Jamie, Dan & Courtney all pile into the morgue. With Natalie trailing slowly behind.
"So much running." Natalie wheezes.
"Nothing seems out of place." Jamie examines the room, looking closely at the shelves of the morgue.
"I think there could be something in here." Courtney looks closely at the contents of the room.
Dan sighs " Ok then, whatever you think."
-
"That lift is tiny." Greg squints at the lift near Hannah's room.
Nelson peers in "Also there are no clues in there. Let's go !"
As the rest of the group follow Nelson, Alec stays behind. "Wait, since we are here shouldn't we just look in Hannah's room."
"Good idea." Michelle points out Alec's idea and turns around.
The other five also turn around and follow Michelle & Alec into Hannah's room.
-
"We're wasting time here Courtney!" Dan sighs at Courtney, who was still adamant that there was a clue at the morgue.

"Trust me, there is a clue here. I know it." Courtney's stubbornness kicks in.
"This is ridiculous," Natalie whispers to Dan, who nods back in agreement.
-
"There, The bed!" Alec exclaims.
On Hannah's bed are eleven rolled up pieces of tissue. The tissue almost looked like it had been decorated by a sculptor because the eye for detail was amazing.
Talia, Greg, Reynold, Nelson, Brianna, Reynold & Alec all grab a tissue piece and a small rolled up laminated piece of paper falls out, with a word search inside. A pen is also provided
" The phase of this game has many an angle
These words, in particular, may be tough to wrangle
Circle a specific Rue Manor location
Then, you'll be allowed to go to that station
Back up your choice with the loop of your ink.
Then look for what's orange and go grab your mink. "
"What the hell is a mink?" Talia scoffs at the last word of the clue.
Reynold shakes his head "I don't know but we need to complete this word search asap"
The majority alliance all scattered out of the room, not wanting the group of Jamie, Dan, Natalie & Courtney to see the clue.
"Let's just all sit down in the great room and try and solve this." Alec directs the group, currently leading the running guests.
-
It had now been even longer and the group of Courtney, Jamie, Natalie & Dan were still searching the morgue for the next clue.
"This is stupid. I'm looking somewhere else." Natalie sighs before jogging out of the morgue.
"See ya, " Dan says to Courtney & Jamie and follows Natalie out of the morgue also.
"Dammit." Courtney hisses to herself, knowing that only having herself and Jamie at one location was a consequence rather than four.
-
Natalie & Dan both jogged up the steps from the morgue and noticed the other seven guests all sitting on the great room couches.
"Great." Nelson sighs to himself as he sees the two outsiders approaching them.
"Where's the clue?" Natalie asks Brianna, who was closest to her.
Brianna just simply ignored Natalie's question and carried on looking down at her crossword.
Natalie scoffed at Brianna's response. Natalie then noticed the alliances balls resting on the table near the couch.
"Hey!" Brianna frustratedly rose from her seat.
Dan grabbed some of the balls from Natalie's hands and examined them.
"You can't do that!" Brianna got in Natalie and Dan's way.
"What are you going to do?" Dan chuckled at Brianna before pushing past her and heading for Hannah's room.
Once Natalie & Dan disappeared up the stairway Brianna let out a loud frustrated groan. "They're gonna get the clue, guys."
"Ok well, there's no point of crying over spilled milk. Courtney & Jamie still haven't got up here." Greg tries to cheer up Brianna by pointing out that Courtney & Jamie hadn't found the clue yet.
-
As the group downstairs continued searching for locations, Natalie & Dan burst into Hannah's room and found the next clue on her bed.
" The phase of this game has many an angle
These words, in particular, may be tough to wrangle
Circle a specific Rue Manor location
Then, you'll be allowed to go to that station
Back up your choice with the loop of your ink.
Then look for what's orange and go grab your mink. ".
"Ok let's just stay in here and look for locations." Dan sits down on Hannah's bed and starts circling some Rue Manor locations.

"What have you guys got?" Nelson asked the group after minutes of silence.
Talia glances down at her word search "Pool, Bar, Parlour, Great Room, and the kitchen."
"Same." Alec had the same as Talia.
"I have the same as well," Michelle said.
"Ok let's try to the parlor first then." Nelson led the group into the parlor, going to the closest area to them first.
"There are orange pool table balls." Brianna fiddled around with the balls on the pool table.
"But they don't have a clue on them." She sighed once she investigated all the orange ones.
-
"Let's go to the pool." Dan sat up from Hannah's bed and walked out of Hannah's room, Natalie followed suit.
Once outside Dan & Natalie found nothing orange by the pool, but noticed the group of Nelson, Alec & Michelle nearby.
"It's pool equipment!" Nelson celebrated, noticing that following a certain part of the crossword puzzle from a certain angle spelled 'Pool Equipment' diagonally.
Nelson, Alec & Michelle all investigated behind a little barrier which was labeled 'Pool Equipment' once they were there they saw the barbecue, and an orange tank labeled 'Carbon Monoxide' hooked up to it. There was also a three wheel wheelbarrow.
"That's it!" Michelle celebrated.
The estate bell rang throughout the whole manor, which to Courtney & Jamie was a dread to their ears as they knew for sure they had found nothing in the morgue.
As the rest of the group were guided into the great room, Alec, Nelson & Michelle were allowed to stay at their riddle location.
"So she was poisoned by carbon monoxide then?" Alec asks, wanting to the get the obvious out of the way.
"Yep," Michelle nods.
"Looks like it." Nelson nods also.
"That explains the red blotchy parts of her skin." Nelson points out to two others.
"Alright, I think we've got everything we need." Michelle clapped her hands together and confidently strutted back inside the manor.
-
Michelle, Alec & Nelson walked back into the great room to see the eight others and Giles.
" Congratulations Mr. Grey , Miss Lawson, and Mr. Kallimaster. You three found the riddles clue. I now suggest you all confer the information you have found throughout this investigation. The dinner tonight will be the spared and scared ceremony. " With that Giles left the guests and they all conferred their theory's on how Hannah was killed.
-
One by one the guests all walked down the Rue Manor staircase and plead their case on how they thought Hannah died in the library. Some had much more information than others, but there was something all of them knew; someone in their group had committed the crime. And was still at loose !.
The tension at Dinner was pretty obvious. Courtney, Natalie, Dan & Jamie all sat next to each other on the dining room table, whereas the majority alliance scattered around with where they were sitting.
The minority group knew they were most likely going to be getting the scared cards tonight. But Natalie & Dan had a tiny bit more information since they saw Nelson, Alec & Michelle investigating the pool equipment area.
The conversation at the dinner stayed at a minimum that night, mostly because the minority alliance were still quite bitter towards the other seven guests. The four in the minority found it immature that they wouldn't even engage in many conversations with them.
Just as Reynold was about to give cheers to everyone's efforts today, Giles walked into the dining room.
"My dear guests I do have a note from the killer."
"Congratulations ... Nelson ! You are spared this evening."
Nelson immediately relaxed once hearing his name called, he knew that he could rest easy for tonight.
"Before I reveal who my next victims will be let me go over how I murdered Miss Taylor... "
The guests all prepared themselves for some gruesome phrases about to be read out.
" Killing Hannah was easy. Last night when everyone was asleep I made my way to Hannah's room, with my wheelbarrow and chloroform dosed tissue in hand. To my surprise, she had managed to lock it pretty well. But the door was no match for my metal device, which has a hook which opens doors from the inside. Chloroform covered tissue in hand, I sneaked up on Hannah while she was fast asleep. My presence in the room startled her enough for her to wake up. She didn't get to scream for long before I knocked her out with the strong fumes of the chloroform. Carefully placing her body in my wheelbarrow I wheeled her out of her room and tightly squeezed myself and the wheelbarrow into the lift a couple of doors down from Hannah's room. Once I reached the kitchen I left the wheelbarrow inside and carried Hannah into the barbecue, which I earlier rigged to let off Carbon Monoxide. A deadly gas which kills instantly. Before I shut the door and killed Hannah I decided to throw a little distraction by leaving a tiny stab wound in Hannah's back before throwing the knife into the bushes. Once the stabbing was over I closed the Barbecue. , turned the setting and watched Hannah die. I then adjourned to my room to get some rest. However the next morning I woke up earlier to turn off the setting and got rid of the carbon monoxide tank. Yours sincerely - your killer."
The majority alliance all gave confident nods, knowing they were safe. The same couldn't be said for Dan, Jamie, Natalie & Courtney as they knew for a fact it would be two of them scared.
"Greg?" Giles calls Greg's name first. Greg flips around his card with written on it.
"Talia?" Talia is also .
"Courtney?" The group all turn their heads to see Courtney's face. Pulling back her card slowly Courtney was met with the card.
"I knew it" Courtney sighed before taking a large gulp of wine.
"Alec?"
"Reynold?"
"Michelle?"
"Brianna, you're next." Brianna is also
This left Dan, Jamie & Natalie. At least one of them was scared.
"Dan?"
Dan looks at his card hopefully for a few moments before finally picking it up. Fortunately, he was .
Jamie & Natalie both cursed in their minds. Knowing that at least one of them had to be scared.
"Miss Underwood?" Giles asks Natalie next.
Taking a deep breathe Natalie tugs the card out of its envelope and gasps when it's the card.
The group all looked over at Jamie, knowing that he was scared.
"No need to call my name Giles." Jamie stopped Giles before he could start. Jamie pulled out his card.
Meanwhile, Dan & Natalie glanced at each other, knowing they had gotten very lucky with that case statements.
"My apologies to Miss Fox and Mr. Llyod, one of you will be the next victim of the killer. Goodnight." With the casual gesture, Giles disappeared out of the dining room.
The guests followed suit. Not in the mood to talk like they did at the last dinner.
Before Courtney, Jamie, Natalie & Dan all joined in a hug. As two of them knew it could be their last night of life.
-
Nine guests woke up to a loud pitched scream and smash coming from what sounded like a room downstairs.
Still half asleep the guests all filed out of their rooms. "Did you hear that!" Nelson exclaims to Natalie. Natalie only gives a simple nod as her and the others all race down the staircase.
Once in the hallway, they see a frozen Brianna, standing in the dining room doorway, back faced to the group.
"Bri, what happened?" Reynold asks the clearly frozen Brianna who had her once cereal bowl scattered around the floor.
Brianna slowly turned around to the group of Nelson, Michelle, Dan, Jamie, Reynold, Talia, Greg, Natalie & Dan, walking towards them the group could finally see what the fuss was about.
Courtney was slumped over in her dining room chair. A small line of blood was drawing from her mouth. It was very obvious that Courtney Fox was indeed dead.
