《Insane》Chapter 5

"You know, I thought you'd be smart enough to close your windows, Alice. What a shame. Some people just never learn." I backed away from him until I felt the wall behind me. I can't run. I can't hide. I can't do anything except wait for this to be over. I looked down and closed my eyes. I didn't feel anything. I looked up to see him inches away. "I still think you need a smile on your face." I winced and my hand instantly went up to my cheek. He chuckled again.
I whispered, "Please don't."
"What?"
I raised my head. "Please don't kill me." His finger ran along the edge of his knife, making me wince again.
He laughed. "Why would I kill you now? Killing is only half the fun, and it's no fun at all if you're such easy prey." How can he? How can someone see murder as "fun"? How? See a person as no more than prey.....it's just animalistic. It's inhumane. It's.....insane. But that's what he is.
"Then why are you here?"
"Why do you think I didn't kill you that one night? I enjoy seeing fear, Alice. It's why I follow you. It's been fun seeing you walk to school, always glancing around yourself, always such fear in your face. It was fun seeing you when your friend told you she was going away. You looked so shocked. And when your mother said she wouldn't be there for the weekend. I always watch you, Alice. I know everything you've done for the past two days. Everything."
I stared at him. All the time? Even when Tara told me she was leaving? Wait.....how did he know what she was saying.Where was he hiding? He chuckled again. I hate that. I hate hearing how he loves seeing my fear. But how does he hear the conversations I've been having with people? How close exactly was he? Another feeling of paranoia rose in me. It's unbelievable. I've been watching my surroundings so closely for the past days, but he was always there. Always watching. Always. And so closely. It couldn't have been through a window all the time, or he wouldn't have heard me.

"Where....where were you hiding all the time?"
"I wasn't always hiding, Alice. Next time you go to school, check your surroundings, you might just recognize me." He grinned insanely.
"What do you mean you weren't hiding?! Someone would probably have noticed a guy walking around with a huge smile on his face wherever he goes!" He chuckled. Why? Why does he always have to chuckle? He suddenly raised his knife to my face, and I noticed that he was still really close to me. He raise his other hand and covered my eyes. I nearly shrieked, but he stopped me.
"Hush, little Alice. Close your eyes, and it might have been a dream. Just a nice, little nightmare." I did close my eyes, and heard a creak. I instantly opened my eyes, to find him gone. I rushed to close all the windows in the apartment, then remembered that I wanted to visit Dad. I put on a coat, took some money and my phone, and went on my way, making sure the door was locked. I walked to the graveyard, and stopped in front of it to buy flowers.
I bought a bouquet of white roses, which were his favorite flowers. He used to say that these were the flowers that Alice saw in Wonderland. I laughed at the memory. I went to his grave, and put the flowers next to it.
"Hey, dad. Umm, I hope it's nice where you are right now. I'm not really in the best situation here." I laughed nervously. "Well, I'm being stalked by an insane killer."
I suddenly heard a voice behind me. "I really prefer the term 'followed', thank you very much." Yup, stalker. I turned around, and guess who it was? Yours truly was standing there, knife in hand and everything. You know, I actually thought that demons were kept off of sacred ground. I guess I was wrong, because there he was. A wave of fear rose in me. I swear, I didn't hear any footsteps whatsoever while I was walking.

"Didn't you at least have the decency to leave that knife outside?" Stupid, stupid me.
"I don't think that would be smart. I always want to help people smile, you know?" I glanced at his knife, and gasped. It had blood on it.
"You sick bastard." I whispered.
"I didn't get you to smile just yet, so I helped someone else."
Son of a bitch. "Wh-who?" He looked at me and leaned in until he was just an inch in front of my face.
He whispered, "You might just find out."
