《A Trip In Time》Chapter 3

It was after sometime of standing the circle that people started to move towards all the tables that were in the middle of the court. No one pushed or shoved to get to a certain seat they all seemed to know there places. My mom sat towards once side of the table and she told me to sit next to her for lunch today. Everyone was sitting but once the castle doors opened everyone stood up and watched as the King and Queen with their children came out and headed towards my end of the table. I was holding in all my excitement about being able to sit close to the royal family, I knew that this was the best dream that I had. We all bowed as they were seated at the head of the table. The King was at the head of the table with his Queen on the right side of him. I loved this because it showed that he trusted no one else over her. The princess sat across from me and I gave her a smile as I sat down in my chair. My mother was next to the Queen and they were talking to each other like they were best friends. The princess was sitting next to her brother who was busy talking with his father. I wasn't sure who to talk to and where I should be looking.I felt like I was going to change the fabric of time if I did anything wrong and I didn't want to destroy anyone's life here.
"Lady Lily did I do something to upset you?"
I looked up to see that the princess was the one asking the question.I did glance to each side of me to see if there was someone behind me that she may be talking to. When I saw I was the only one in her view that she was talking to me. My nerves went back up again like they did in the circle with the nobles.
"No nothing is wrong. Why do you ask your highness?"
It would have been helpful to have some sort of memory on who or what I knew in this period. Trending lightly around everyone was going to be hard because I didn't know who I was close too and how to talk to them.
"Your highness? You haven't called me that since your family came to court over six years ago. Now I know something is wrong for you to be acting like we are nothing."
The one thing I didn't want to do I just did and now I didn't know what to do that would make everything seem fine. By saying two words I had made it clear that something was wrong with me.
"I promise you have done nothing wrong. I just seem to be a little out of it. I think it was from the ball last night."
"Didn't you have so much fun last night? Once the dinner is over I need to ask you a question."
"Okay."
Now I was a little worried as to what it could be. I watched as the King waved to have the meal started. It took a couple of hours to get through the different courses and all the food was delicious. Once the plates were picked up I knew I would have to answer the princess's question.I wasn't sure how this conversation would go.
"Daddy can myself and Lily be excused?"
"Yes you two behave."
We both nodded and then stood from the table. I followed her as she made her way over to the gardens and continued to follow her through the maze of the shrubs. It didn't take long to make it to the middle of the maze where the fountain was. There was a bench in front of the fountain and that is where I went to sit and have this talk.

"So now you have to tell me what is going on."
"I promise nothing is going on or wrong. I just don't remember a lot from last night."
"Well if you don't remember last night, then what could have happened to you?"
"I don't know to be honest. I wish I could remember something if I was able to remember something it would make things easier."
"Well maybe it has something to do with Adam escorting you to the ball last night. Did you do that to get my brother to notice?"
"Adam is just my friend and why would I try to get your brother to notice me?"
She laughed at me and I was trying to figure out what was making her laugh. I know I didn't say anything funny and I wasn't sure about any of my relationships. Did the prince and I have some sort of complicated relationship, I just want her to tell me everything.
"Lily I have always been able to tell that there was something between you too, even if the two of you don't want to admit anything. Last night when you came in with Adam he noticed and he would keep looking at you through out the night to see what you were doing."
"Elizabeth I promise I don't have feelings for your brother, I care more about our friendship than any guy. I know that even if your brother and I did have feelings we could never do anything about it."
"Lily are you blind to everything that is going around you? Our families have been talking about the two of you for years. You aren't just some low life at court you have nobility and if my brother wants to be with you and you want to be with him than you can."
"You think that is why my family came to court?"
"I'm not sure but that could be one of the reasons, it's not like I am allowed to be in on the conversations."
I couldn't picture myself marrying the prince and being the princess and some day future queen. As I was sitting there some of my memories started to come back to me. It was like things just made sense to me again in some aspects of my past life. Since the day that my family had come to court he had been mean to me. He never made me feel welcome here and it wasn't until I meet Elizabeth that I started to like this place and could consider this place a home.
"Elizabeth you know that I only found this place as home once you started talking to me. When it was just your brother I couldn't wait to go back home. He has always been so rude and I don't see us ever having a future together."
"I know Lily but it was because of my brother that I started talking to you. I figured a girl that hated him as much as me would have a lot more in common with me."
I laughed because I knew she was right that we had connected at first because of her brother and how much we banned together to go after him. It was when we started getting to know each other that we were so much alike and had a ton of things in common to bond over.
"Have you even talked to him?"
"No I didn't talk to him last night and definitely not today either. How do you know that my brother is still the same boy before he left? I believe he has changed and I will show you at tonight's ball."

We got up from the fountain and started to head back to the courtyard. It was going to take some time to get ready for the ball tonight. We made it back to the courtyard and we saw our parents were talking with each other. My mom smiled when she saw me coming out of the gardens. I wasn't sure where Adam or the prince was but I didn't want to deal with either one of them right now.
"Ahh Lily there you are. We must get going if we are going to be ready in time for the ball tonight."
"Baroness Katherine would it be possible for Lily to get ready here?"
I saw that Elizabeth wanted me to stay bu we had never gotten ready together before. I was still getting use to having my memories coming back little by little but I was thankful for them. Now I was getting how I should feel towards people and there wasn't a lot of guessing now. I was starting to feel normal in this world and began to feel the pressure lift a little.
"I am sure Princess Elizabeth that your mother and your staff will be busy getting you and your castle ready for tonight. Lillian can come home with me, that way the staff won't be overwhelmed by everything."
Elizabeth turned to her mother and I cold see the look in her eyes that made it known she would have her way. She put on the big puppy dog eyes as she turned to look her mother in her eyes.
"Mother can Lily please stay and get ready with me? I have plenty of dresses for her to wear."
"Elizabeth it is up to your father. This is a celebration of your brother's return."
Elizabeth turned to her father and I could see she was using those same puppy dog eyes to have her father break. I don't think her father had ever told her no and I don't think there was going to be a time when he did. She was daddy's little girl and he made she that she was always happy.
"If the Baroness doesn't mind her daughter staying then yes, Lady Lily can stay and get ready with you."
Elizabeth was smiling as she turned to face my mom. I knew my mom couldn't say no now that everyone had given permission. Could she really tell the princess no, she was higher in status than her.
"Come on Lily let's go get ready."
"Mother I will see you later tonight at the ball."
"Have a good time Lily I will see you tonight."
Once she gave me a hug and a kiss on my head, Elizabeth grabbed my arm and we started into the castle. She was moving so fast it was hard to keep up with her. We made our way up the stair case and down the hall. The guards that were by her door opened them when they saw us getting closer. Once we were inside they shut the doors to leave us to getting ready. I was nervous about the ball tonight, even though I had been to one last night this would be the first time I would be going to the ball in the physical presence.
"I have the perfect dress for you to wear tonight."
"You don't have to do this. I could always just run home and grab my dress. I don't want to be an inconvenience for you."
"Lily you will never be an inconvenience. I want to do something nice. You are always helping me."
I just nodded I knew I would never win a fight when it came to her. I sat down on the chair in front of her vanity and let her figure out what she felt like having me wear. I just watched her as she went through all her dresses. she would hold one up and then throw it on her bed. I got the feeling this was going to take some time for her to find the dress she was thinking of.
"Lily come here I believe I found the perfect dress for you."
I stood up and headed over to where she was standing. She was holding out a silver dress, the dress wasn't big or anything. The dress was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen, it was beaded all over the bodice and some of the beading went down into the skirt.
"Elizabeth this is beautiful. I can't possibly wear this."
"You must. I won't have you go in anything else."
I moved behind the screen to change into the dress. I slipped off my picnic dress and put on the silver dress. I walked out behind the screen for Elizabeth to help me tie up the back of the dress.
"Lily you look gorgeous. I can't wait to see everyone's face tonight when they see you come down the staircase with me."
"Really you are having me walk down the staircase with you?"
"I wouldn't have it any other way."
Now it was time for Elizabeth to get ready, she didn't have to lift a finger, all her ladies-in-waiting were ready to help her get into her dress. I was putting on my finishing touches as Elizabeth was finishing up with putting her dress on. Her ladies put on the last of her jewelry and her tiara was the last thing that went on.
"Elizabeth you looked beautiful."
"Just so you know we will be the last one to enter into the ball."
"No pressure at all."
She laughed and we made our way out of her room. I tried to keep my cool as we moved closer to the staircase as we got closer to the top of the staircase you could hear the music coming from the ball room. It only took a few minutes before it was Elizabeth's turn to make her entrance into the party.
"Lily I want you to go first."
I knew she would want to be the last person before the ball began, this way she would be on everyone's mind and the talk of the evening. I nodded as I moved to the first step that I would walk down, I just kept telling myself to not trip. I made my way down the stairs with everyone watching me and I could feel a slight blush start on my cheeks. I was so happy when my feet hit the floor at the bottom and my mom was standing in front of me.
"Lily you look beautiful."
"Thank you mother. I will see you later."
I smiled and gave her a hug before I turned to head over to Adam. Adam was standing behind the crowd but next to him was the Prince Philip. I looked away from my mom and decided I would need to talk to these two boys are some point and it was better to get it over with now.

What Was Lost Outside Time
What happens to a mind, subjected to an infinite span of time? What remains, when it is taken out again? This is the story of an individual reborn after such time has passed that nothing remains of what it was; an individual who must learn once again what it is to be, beginning with awareness of the idea of awareness, and growing from there; from awareness of self, to awareness of others, to awareness of society, and on. This is the story of a mind; growing, learning, adapting, and becoming more. -- Currently the first three chapters are - well, kind of experimental. I both like and hate these; they were a pain to write, and I'm told by at least one person that they're painful to get through, but I think something like them is necessary to set one of the basic ideas about the way the story is written. It gets slightly more normal after that, the first arc of the story is rather "battle school", and I think I may need to go back and edit it - the characterization didn't end up working out as well as I had originally hoped, unfortunately, and ended up rather weak to my eye. I may go back and add a sub-plot or two, depending on how well I can handle the intended perspective shift of the second arc. -- Currently on hiatus, in case that wasn't obvious. I'm debating between rewriting large portions of what I've already written, and just finishing out the story, but either way, I don't actually have a clear idea of what I want to do right now. If I'm still feeling the same way in a few months I'll put a chapter up explaining where the story was going, maybe, so the people who have enjoyed it can know where the story was intended to go, and close this out.

A Tale of the Ages: Gods, Monster, and Heros
The past get's forgotten. Or so they say. Maybe they're right. Even the gods forgot the beginning, the reason it all started. But I refuse to forget, even if I'm driven mad by the memory. Salvation? It's pointless. No one is worth saving, but that doesn't mean they aren't worth helping. No one is a plaything, but everyone's a pawn in this game. I hate it. Who's playing? I don't know. I don't even know what the game really is. I gave up on figuring that out after a time. What I do know is that I want to tell you all a story. It has a beginning, a middle, and an end, as any good story should. But, I really don't think you'd keep listening if I told it in order. So, we will start at three points; you'll have to figure out where they are in the overall story. The story of Hal and instinct, a pair so close that they might as well have been one. The story of The Husk, a creature on a hunt that would span generations. The story of Mask and a hero. How one will come to learn of the other's past and the many faces they had. Do you know where you stand? Do you side with the gods, the hero, the demon king, the experiment, the cursed, the blessed, the monsters, the forgotten? Well? I know. You don't know anything yet, so you can't say. So, enter our world, and find out what side is what.

The Ingress Estate
Jonathon Eucole. Soldier. Scholar. Now an Initiate, the dedication without dedication, he finds himself both prisoner and master of an arcane edifice, the Ingress Estate, which can neither be escaped, nor controlled; only diverted, maintained, and pacified. This is a gothic fantasy story, set in a world in which gods and the afterlife are not only real and known, but were both established in living memory of some of the inhabitants after millennia of arcane warfare with the being who constructed the mundane reality the humans occupy. But this isn't the story of those who colonized the afterlife at the cost of their own humanity, but a somewhat more ordinary man, in somewhat extraordinary circumstances. This is also a LitRPG-lite, which means there's a system of sorts, fragments of which can be observed through Jonathon's eyes. Don't expect level-up screens, or statistics, or indeed numbers much at all, beyond those the inhabitants of the world itself apply to understanding their own reality. It pretty much doesn't matter to the story, I mention it so those who don't want to read LitRPG at all can successfully avoid it here. I don't have any particular plan here, just some ideas inherent in the genre. This is a character concept I toyed with some years ago; an old man, bright of mind but weighed down into apathy, both by his past and his responsibilities for a terrible estate that cannot be left without stewardship. Don't expect any kind of overarching plot or story, because that's really not what this is about. Also don't expect much dialogue. Or character development. Or much of anything, really, because I've planned nothing in the way of an actual book, here. Other relevant information, if you've read this far for some reason: The MC isn't super-powerful to begin with, and probably never will be. He's a veteran with some useful skills, and the insight on how to use them, so can deal with the world's ordinary threats reasonably well, but not too much beyond that. --- Currently on hiatus, as currently the story has a rather poor ratio of effort-to-personal-payoff. I may return to this once I have a clear idea of how to get the stories where I want them. I've started a more standard LitRPG using the same system. But if you like intelligence characters who cleverly min-max their classes, it probably isn't the story for you; it's the story of a rather ordinary guy who winds up in a very similar universe.
