《The Gifted Seer (Bk 1 of Seer Series) (Completed)》Chapter 37 (Edited)

The battle was long and hard. Each side lost people, but thankfully, we didn't lose that many. I was covering Reese when all of a sudden everyone was lifted up into the air and brought crashing back to the ground beneath us.
I was quick and got back onto my feet, ignoring the pain in my side and the pain in my shoulder. My whole body was tense, and I was in protective mode because I couldn't let anyone else get hurt. "Hold on to something," I called out when we were started to be lifted off the ground, again. I pulled some roots out of the ground and made sure that it covered my feet as well as Reece, who wasn't standing yet.
Malicious laughter filled the air around us, causing everyone to be on edge and look for where the laughter came from. "So, you really think that you can defeat us?" an all too familiar voice sneered. Someone transported in front of me, and I was shocked to see the face of my father.
I made a sword out of pure energy and stared at the male that I called dad. I was shocked that he was the one that we were going after, but... something was off about him. "Dad?" I asked.
That isn't your dad, Ruckur said. His voice was grave, and I could tell that he knew the person.
Dad turned to look at me, his eyes black as night. There was a sneer on his face, and what got me the most was the look of disgust. This couldn't be my father because he never had looked at me with pure disgust before. "Director," he said, giving a mock bow. "It is nice to see you."
I pursed my lips. "Ok, man that stole my dad's face. Who the hell are you?"

Language, please, Ruckur said, causing me to scoff and roll my eyes. He can hurt anyone if you aren't respectful to him. Guilt filled his voice, and I was curious to know what he was hiding from me.
The male before me sneered. "Since I am feeling quite nice right now, I will not kill anyone," he said. "However, your tone needs to change quickly before I change my mind.
Gee, thanks, Mister, I thought, sarcastically, keeping my thoughts to myself. I don't think I trust you.
I took a step forward, letting the roots go back into the ground. "Then, call off your kin," I said. "If you are feeling generous."
Joes, don't, Ruckur said. Worry filled his voice as he heard my thoughts.
I have to, I replied. I might have lost my father, but I can make sure that I do not lose anyone else.
The male with my dad's face raised an eyebrow. "Now, why will I do that?" he asked. He took a step forward, trying to intimidate me. Electricity filled the air around him, causing the hair on the back of my neck to stand up.
"I call for Summel Morin," I replied, shrugging my shoulder. I held my hand up to silence some of the protests that were coming from the people around me. "I mean, it shouldn't be a problem for say... a three hundred year old male? I mean, I only just celebrated my eighteenth birthday."
And, we are going to die, Ruckur grumbled. Really nice meeting you.
The male raised an eyebrow and looked at me with mock concern. "Are voices telling you to do this? Surely, the last Director is helping you."
I scrunched my eyebrows in confusion. "There were more of me?" I asked in confusion. "I mean, the only voice I hear is the one that tells me I am going to die, Voldemort is Tom Riddle, Vampires don't sparkle, and Zuko's dad did something to his mother." I cocked my head and scrunched up my eyebrows. "Oh, and Unicorns are real, and they fart rainbows and are called narwals."

The male gave a 'what-fuck-look'. "What the hell are you talking about?"
I smirked and took a step forward. From what I had learned, I could easily make someone pay attention to what I was doing and saying instead of the stuff that I do around them. I had practiced this trick on Ruckur many times, and I knew that he didn't even know what I was doing.
The male frowned, not liking that I wasn't speaking. He looked hesitant, and I could see that some of my father was still in him. "What are you getting at?" he asked.
"You see, I have been practicing something," I said, taking another step forward. "I have been practicing this for weeks, without even letting the voice inside my head know." I shook my head when he didn't answer. "It's called Merison DeMolna. I am sure you had heard of it. Right, Carith?"
The male, Carith, frowned, and I could see the fear and the doubt in his eyes. The reason as to why he was afraid was because nobody was strong enough to do this spell. Most Directors, from what I have learned, do not even know of this spell. "What are you talking about?" he asked, taking a step back.
"Look around," I said, gesturing around. A smirk appeared on my face when he looked around to see that there was a force field around us as well as all the Lana Li Ho all turned to dust. "You seem to be shocked that a Half Breed, like myself, could do such a thing. Correct?" I shrugged. "So am I, but I somehow was able to do it."
Cairth didn't say a word. He glanced around, and I could tell that he was looking for a way out. He knew what was coming and knew that he didn't have a chance of surviving.
"I see that you are afraid, which is good in my case," I said, taking a step forward. "I have the power to defeat you, and I know that you do not want to be defeated."
Carith threw a large ball of fire at me as an attempt to distract me from his real attack.
I merely flicked my wrist and caused the ball to disassemble before stabbing Carith in the heart with my sword. "If you don't mind," I said, watching as the life in his eyes disappear. "I would like my father back."

When the modern technology of Earth meets the medieval magic of Vera, which culture will invade the other world first? When the army rangers of the United States collide with the members of the Hunter's Guild, who will win? Updates on Wednesdays/Thursdays Cover is my own creation. Tips to reading: This is my first book, so cliches and tropes are used as the base and then expanded upon. My intention is to make it a casual read but deep if you decide to look closer. I'm not a people person, so my focus and purpose for writing this is to explore the world building and magic system, not necessarily the characters. There won't be a villian until the postgame ;) Author's philosophy: I took an professional personality inventory (through a community college back in 2018) and was categorized as a "double-checker." I'm never satisfied with the work that I complete, and never want to share it with anyone. But this book is a challenge to myself! As a rule of thumb, I will only add to the story. I can't remove elements I've already included (unless absolutely, absolutely necessary). PS, I'm a native English speaker.

CW: Contains mildly graphic scenes of violence/death, topics of unwanted pregnancy/abortion, scientific experimentation on sapient beings, depression/suicide, grief, and trauma. The tone of this fiction is often dark and distinctly dystopian in lighter shades of Margaret Atwood, though where there is darkness there is always hope and light. On Hiatus Until September When the School Year Begins and Mom This story takes a considerable amount of time and mental energy to complete. I thought I had enough backlog and time to post it as a serial while COVID kept my child home from school, but it turns out while I can quickly write other pieces, I cannot produce the quality I need with this one at an acceptable rate. We'll resume in September when my days are much freer. Thank you for your patience and stay tuned for a different storytelling romp more suited for a serial platform in the meantime.
