Bright lights, methodical heart monitors, and the cool burning smell of antiseptic. You wake up, having dozed off in the stiff blue leather chair in the hospital waiting room, when you hear heavy footsteps approaching.
"Mx. (Y/L/N)?" The doctor says. You blink your eyes and look up at him, "Where is my boyfriend?" You say, "Is he alive? Oh god, how long have I been here.." The doctor holds up a hand, "Yes, he's alive, you brought him in a half an hour ago, he's lost a lot of blood." "Can I see him, please?" You beg, trying to contain yourself. The doctor nods motioning for you to follow, "Yes." He says, "But you have to understand, the wound was already infected when he arrived."
You nod, gulping, and move quietly behind the doctor as he takes you to lin's hospital room. You gasp slightly, your hand coming to your mouth as you see your baby curled up with an oxygen mask on. "Oh my god." You breathe, moving to his side, and gently gripping his hand. "Lin?" You say softly, your voice wrecked from sobbing earlier.
"He can't hear you." The doctor says, frowning, "He's under sedation still from the surgery." The doctor walks out of the room before turning, "Please relax." He says, smiling, "If everything goes as expected, he should have enough strength to stay alive."
You nod, the words not doing much to comfort you. You pull a chair up to his bedside and sigh, pushing a few fingers along his forehead to smooth the hair out of his face. "Stay alive." You repeat quietly, a choir of angels seeming to sob on the echoes of your desperate syllables as they stray from your lips, "Stay alive.."

Lin gasps, his heart monitor racing. He opens his eyes, as rips at his face, trying to pull the oxygen mask off.
Your eyes open with a start as the heart monitor picks up speed and grab Lins hand as he tries to pull of his oxygen mask, "Oh my god, Lin!" You say, "You're awake, oh my god." You grip his hand tightly. Lin looks over at you with wide eyes. "(Y-Y/n)?" He says softly, pushing his oxygen mask onto his neck and blinking a few times to get his eyes to focus. You nod quickly, "Im here, Lin." You bite your lip, "H-How do you feel?"
Lin's brow furrows and he looks down to see that he's shirtless and part of his abdomen was covered in bandages. "W-What happened?" Lin says, moving to gently poke at the bandages. You move his hand away, "Don't touch." You say, frowning slightly before looking up at him. "Don't you remember? You were stabbed. Mugged or something."
Lin's eyes go wide, "I was... oh gosh.." He reaches down and feels around in his pockets, "No... no! No!" Lin says, his face contorting in anguish. "It's.. its gone." He chokes.
You frown, touching his hand, "What's gone, baby?" Lin shivers, looking slowly up at you, "M-My money..." he says, his voice small and broken, "All of it... gone." A tears slips down his cheek, and he looks away, incoherent, disjointed sentences slipping from his slightly parted lips like the muddy debris in swift-flowing floodwaters.
"Lin!" You says, gripping his hand, remembering what the doctor had said, "Please calm down, baby, the stress isn't good for you right now." You lift his small thin hand to your lips, kissing his knuckles, "We can worry about money later. Don't cry."

Lin shakes his head. "No.." he says, his voice cracking, "You Don't understand. That was the money. My ticket to New York... gone." You bite your lip, leaning down and putting your arms around his chest. "Please." You beg, "Don't worry about that right now." You take this moment to look over Lin-Manuel's (not Alexander's) pale thin frame. You knew he hadn't been eating much from stress and being busy but god... He was almost as thin as when y'all first met.
You frown and gently kiss the man's chest. This man wouldn't survive on his own. Slowly, carefully, you move into the hospital bed, curling up next to Lin. Lin looks at you in surprise for a moment before smiling sadly and putting his arm spring you.
"I'm sorry". You whisper, apologizing on behalf of the universe for Lin's current situation. Lin frowns, gently kissing your head, "Don't apologize." He says softly, "I shouldn't have even gone out like that.. I don't know what I was thinking." He shakes his head, "I guess..." he starts, then shutting his mouth for a moment and whispering, silently, through the voice in his head, "Its all over now."

Can he use magic, blade and wit to fight them off? Or will he be the one to fall instead? Follow Vreil on his adventures. Witness the dawn of an era. 🧙🧙🧙 This is a story I'd written a few years back, and I figured it's a waste to just let it sit around. Most of it is already written, but I'm going through the chapters and editing the shit out of them. This story is NOT a Lit-RPG, so no blue screens or anything of the sort. It is just fast-paced fiction with slight cultivation elements. Updates are bi-daily (so every 2 days), and chapters are 1500-3000 words. As always, feedback is more than welcome. Why are you still reading the synopsis? You have already decided. Go ahead, give this story a shot. It's worth it.
