《The Devil I Love | Jikook Smut |》Chapter 37: We Have History

"WHERE IS HE?!" Shouted the Director as he slammed his fist onto the desk and shouted into the phone he held up to his ear. His pale face was red now and the hair that was brushed back, dropped a few strands over his forehead. The Director hissed and breathed heavily as the worker on the other side of the call went silent for a moment before stuttering.
"I-I'm not sure! He was supposed to be here for the interview but he's one hour late! We didn't lose him sir, we promise! The angel has been missing since the morning!"
"So he's been missing and none of you wanted to let the people running the interview know that? They're calling me like crazy to ask where he is and I don't even know!"
"Sir, we are trying our best to find him, contact him, and everything! He doesn't seem to be at his penthouse at all. Jimin must have stepped out..."
"Look for that boy or it's your head that will go missing next!" Director Sung mentioned before hanging up and dropping onto the leather cushioned seat and letting out an exhale before he fixed his hair and brushed it back. All morning, he has been calling Jimin over and over again and texting him, but he received no answer. Ever since he received word from the company of Jimin's absence, he hasn't been at ease since.
"Where is he..." he asked himself in a calmer whisper, almost sounding closer to a worried tone before covering his face and letting out a sigh. "If he's not at home, where could he be? Where is he...? I kept calling and calling but no answer at all, he couldn't have run away... right? Oh, don't tell me he ran away... please don't, I'm so worried I-'' instantly, there was a knock at the door and he quickly sat up and kept a blank stare before folding his hands over the desk. In seconds, the doors pried open and in walked the manager Namjoon himself.
Namjoon adjusted the long beige coat over his body and walked in until he stopped and bowed to his boss. No words were exchanged as the Director only looked at the chair. Signaling him to sit right in front of him to talk.
"Namjoon..."
"Director Sung..." Namjoon replied and sat down at the chair before watching the older man sit up and fold his arms. "I know what you're going to ask me..."
"Then, answer it."
"I don't know. You would think I know where he is, but I don't! Even if I'm his friend too, he doesn't trust me enough to tell me things! That boy lacks trust in anyone..." Namjoon added into the conversation and looked his boss in the eyes. "I've called him and texted him, no answer. I would expect him to reach out to me but he did not! So, if you're trying to question me by telling you where he is, you're wasting your time. I'm just as confused as you."

"No, No... I'm not going to sit here and ask you that. Rather, I'm going to ask you again if you've ever seen Jimin... close to anyone outside of this entertainment. Friends, partners......" He mentioned and right at the sound of his final word. Namjoon's facial expression changed slightly, but he played it off well. Or so he thought.
"Not that I know of. Again, you would think he would tell me these things, but he wouldn't. Jimin's trust in me is nonexistent. Just like his trust for anyone in this world. That boy is sensitive, afraid and careful with his life. For him to leave without a trace last night, is something he would take to the grave before telling any of us."
"To leave... I saw the security footage of him leaving the lobby last night. He carried a little backpack and wore a disguise. I could assume he went to spend the night at someone's place... someone very special to him."
"How... would you know that? He could be homesick and went to be with his family. You know how overwhelmed he could get. Jimin will come back eventually."
"And if he doesn't?"
"Then, he doesn't."
"Are you aware of the contract he holds in this entertainment?" The Director hissed as he watched Namjoon sit up and glare at the man in the eyes.
"Are you aware of the lack of vacations he has on his schedule? You can't be serious! That contract says nothing about taking his vacations away! Boss, I'm not trying to be rude here, but if word gets out that you're overwhelming the angel himself, everyone will riot! His fans are very loyal and they love him very much..."
"Who will know about that? All I'm doing is keeping his name out there and growing his career like he always dreamed of since he walked through those doors to sign a contract with me. A deal is a deal, Namjoon. I'm only doing my job. The people want more of him and with all these proposals for Jimin to work with, I can't turn them away."
He lied. He lied and Namjoon knew it. He knew the Director didn't have to accept every little gig that called for Jimin, but he did. He wanted to get Jimin back in his office and Namjoon caught onto that piece before he lost it. The behavior of this Director has been dangling over his head for so long and after collecting enough pieces, Namjoon was able to see a bigger picture.
"Director Sung... do you... like Jimin?" Namjoon asked as the Director smiled to himself and dropped his hands onto the desk over the table. Softly running his hands up and down a specific spot his memory of something recalled and never wanted to let go. "Do you... like him so much you want to call him in here or...? What is your fascination with him?"
"Hm, 'like'... you could say that," The Director mentioned as he kept his hand over the desk and stared down at it. "I guess you could also say . But at the end of the day, who isn't fond of our little angel? The world is absolutely crazy for him. It's only reasonable that I need to know where he is for his job. If you think about it, I'm only making sure he works and keeps his life out there. In no way do I plan on harming such a delicate man. I know his issues, and I know how he is."

"You know how he is? No, you don't... in fact, I don't think anyone has ever gotten close enough to him in order to know that. I've been his friend since I began working here and I still don't know what his favorite color is or even if it's just one color! I've been his friend for so long, I feel like at times he doesn't see me the same but as far as I know, I stay by him because I know he needs me. To say you know how he is, it... it just doesn't make sense to me," Namjoon vented and didn't know the smile the man had over his face as he looked him in the eyes. It was the smile of victory and the smile of someone who knew something Namjoon did not.
"But it's true... I know him. From the very beginning of his career up until now, I know everything about him."
"Come on...." Namjoon sighed and shook his head softly. "Boss, you don't have to say that to make yourself look better in front of me, we both know that-"
"How could you possibly say that to me? I was his after all..." The man mentioned and silenced Namjoon. "What? Never knew that? Why do you think he avoids me? We've had our little hiccups in our relationship of to be exact, only downside is that it ended so recently... I figured he needed to focus on his mental health. I do care about him, Namjoon... I really do."
Namjoon sat there; his hands remained gripped onto his chair and his mind was only seconds away from exploding! Never in his life did he expect to think that Park Jimin was in a relationship with the Director. He couldn't believe it and sat there, speechless as his blood went cold. Even through the weird antics the Director possessed towards Jimin, once he connected a piece of their relationship before, it seemed to make sense to him. This was Park Jimin's ex, sitting before him. But did it ever make sense that Jimin behaved in such a way that day he ran off from his office in tears? Namjoon questioned that part. He knew nothing of their relationship or even if it was a healthy one at that.
"In some ways, it's hard to keep my love for him separated from work. I only want what's best for him and even if it hurts me to throw more work on his plate, I do it for the sake of his career. At the end of the day, I do it out of love. Some day, you'll understand what I'm doing for him and see that I'm not the bad guy... I just love him, even if we're not in a relationship, I still love him after what we had ended," Director Sung continued. But Namjoon couldn't believe it. He was still finding ways to connect as to why Jimin feared this man but they were in a relationship before... It was a hard puzzle that Namjoon was only seconds away from completing. "Surely, you still care about an ex, don't you, Namjoon?"
"Yeah..." Namjoon answered. Still in his own mind as he kept thinking on every word he said. If only he could ask Jimin about this, but he didn't want to make Jimin uncomfortable when it came to talking about a past relationship with his own Director.
"I'm glad we can agree on something. I didn't want to shed some light on what Jimin and I had, but I guess I needed to so I wouldn't come off as a creepy boss to you... at the end of the day, I love him just as much as everyone else does and I want the best for him. So please, if Jimin returns to the penthouse, please, tell him not to miss another session like that ever again~"
"Got it..."
"You are free to go now," he concluded. Watching Namjoon get up and finally walk out of the office. Confused about the relationship they shared but also concerned about Jimin. Who would have thought that the Director was his creepy ex? Namjoon wanted to know more now and hoped to see Jimin soon and maybe then, their conversation wouldn't be their last concerning how distant their friendship already is.
As soon as Namjoon left the room, Director Sung smiled and pressed his head back against the leather chair and placed his hands against the armrests before letting out a scoff right after.
"He must think I'm stupid... how could I not see his little reaction when I mentioned a photographer? So now I know, a photographer..." the man whispered and bit his lip carefully before smiling once again. But it was an eerie smile that was nowhere near a happy one. It was in between a twisted and fake smile he always had on when he thought of someone else making Jimin happy. "Is that someone who makes him smile? Who? All the photoshoots he takes with other photographers seem to make him smile but I know they're all fake smiles. But, there's one... one that I need to find that stands out of place. That's the one Jimin is close with. Maybe I'll be monitoring the next photoshoots of his just to find the odd one out."
