《Breathe Princess (Daryl Dixon Love Story)》Chapter Twelve

I poked the walkers hand jumping away terrified it might jump on me. I sooner or later i realized that its dead. I stared at it sitting there in the passenger seat. I scrunched my face in confusion as I saw an odd looking black bag resting in the front right seat of a car on top of another walker. I bite my lip wanting to get to it. My legs rested on the walkers bony thighs. I grabbed the steering wheel balancing myself. I reached for the bag pulling it towards me but apparently its stuck. I huffed in frustration pulling it harder towards me.
And at that moment i just froze. The walker opened its eyes hissing at me. I let go of the bag my blood running cold, it lunged itself at me making me scream out. I tripped over the other dead walker, half of my body in the car and out.
I felt someone grab my waist pulling the walker off of me locking him inside the car, as it growled trying to get to us and then felt hands covering my mouth.
The person turned me around facing them ''Don't look back'' Daryl whispered.
I looked at him him confused as I looked behind me my face turning white as I see this huge herd of walkers heading our way. Daryl pushed me down on the ground telling me to hide under the car. As soon as I did, he joined me covering my mouth, pushing body close to mine, his chest pressed against mine. I hide my face in Daryl's neck controlling my breathing so we wouldn't be heard.
We hear a moan of pain making me clench into Daryl, tugging on his shift, signaling that somebody was hurt. Daryl looked from under the car nodding at someone. ''I have to go help him, I'll be back. Don't leave from under the car. I'll come and get you. Got it?'' I nodded letting go of him. He stretched out on the ground leaving me all alone.
I brought my knees up to my chest, covering my mouth as they walked by. I closed my eyes trying to distract myself as the herd kept on walking past the road rail.

There were no more walkers walking by but I remembered what Daryl said and waited for him to come back and get me. A loud scream of a little girl rang through my ears making me shriek.
''Annora''
''Daryl?'' I said grabbing the stretched out hand. He helped me out and up checking on me.
Carol was crying because Sophia got chased by two walkers in the woods and Rick chased after her.
Dale frowned at Daryl as he asked about him ''Son, Merle wasn't here since before the herd. I called for him to help me with the RV but he wasn't here'' Daryl's face was blank. He paced back and forth calling for his brother but there was no sign of him being around.
Rick returned with no Sophia. Carol was asking Rick questions. Daryl was a mess and was calling for his brother trying to find his brother. And everyone was panicked over everything. It soon began to become stressful
''Enough'' Rick said making them all keep quiet ''Carol I didn't find Sophia''
Carol cried in disbelief over the loss of her daughter ''What do you mean?'' He then explained everything, from finding her to making her hide in a creek to kill the walkers and not finding her as he returned to get her.
''Sophia is not the only one missing, Merle is too'' I said grabbing people's attention as i said that. Rick frowned at me and looking over to Daryl.
''When was the last time you saw him?'' I asked quietly.
''He told me he was going hunting for a few minutes as soon as we got here''
''That's a long time, maybe he's in trouble out there''
-
It was soon getting dark, Daryl and Rick were still out there in hopes to find both Sophia and Merle. I approached Carol standing next to her ''They will find her don't worry'' I told her softly and she seems to be calm.
''Its hard'' She said tears falling down her face. I tried my best to confront her but I knew she wouldn't get any comfort until she finds her daughter.
''They're back'' Glenn said making me grin but frowned when I saw no sign of Sophia nor Merle.

''You did not find her?'' Carol sobbed making my heart break for her.
''We lost track of her. We will research tomorrow at dawn'' Rick said making her cry out even more
''You cannot let my daughter when left all alone all night in the forest!''
''It's too dangerous in the dark. Its going to be hard to move around with these things out there'' Daryl said trying his best to explain how it was. She's a child but it was to risky to be out there at this hour.
''But she's only twelve! We can not leave her alone! You really did not find anything?'' She questioned making them stay silent ''Is this...blood...?'' She asked pointing to Daryl's shirt.
'We killed a walker'' Rick said making me let out a breath of relief. Carols eyes widen ''Do not worry, we are sure that it did not taken in Sophia''
''How can you know?'' I questioned ignoring the glaring Andrea is giving me. I still not quite sure what her problem is with me.
''We cut the son of a bitch open'' Daryl replied making me crunch my face in disgust.
''Oh no, Why did you leave her alone in the forest? How could you do that?'' Carol complained making huff out in frustration. I get that she lost her daughter but she has to understand that Rick had no choice but did that out of protection for her.
''There were two walkers after us. I had to get them away from her at all costs, it was the best way to pull away'' Rick explained making me butt in.
''He had no choice'' I told her making her frown.
''I had no other way to save her. It was the only thing to do'' Rick said wanting her to understand.
''My little girl was abandoned in the forest'' She cried, Rick walks away not knowing what to do to reassure Carol, who can not stop grieving.
I shifted around not being able to sleep, I had already took my pills. They sometimes help me and sometimes don't. But right now it wasn't anxiety, it wasn't a pain attack, it wasn't nightmares, it wasn't chest pain. It was the sobbing of heart broken Carol. It was getting harder for everybody. Not just Carol.
I laid there for almost twenty minutes trying to sleep, shifting positions every now and then but the sobbing continued and no progress was made. I got up needing to get fresh air, couldn't take it anymore. I opened the door slamming it on to someone. I bite back laughter giggling as Daryl held his head. I closed the door shut, taking a seat beside him.
''Why are you up? You should be asleep. We have a search tomorrow'' He questioned not looking at me.
''I couldn't sleep'' I said softy, pointing to the RV, making him nod in understanding why.
I shivered as the cold wind hit my skin. Daryl got up, walking inside the RV. I sighed wrapping my arms around myself.
My body was soon wrapped in a blanket making me look at Daryl as he sat next to me. I scooted closer to him giving him half of the warm blanket, he pulled me closer to him making me rest my head on this shoulder.
''Did you find signs or tracks of Merle?'' I asked making him tense at the question.
''No'' He simply answered, myself not wanting to push it too far.
''Don't worry about it, I may have known Merle for a short time but he's tough'' I said making him chuckle.
''If someone would survive this whole shit it would be him''
''And you'' I added making him crack a smile.
''You should smile more often, it suits you'' I jokily said, truth behind it making him scoff as he hid a smile.
''There's nothin' to be smilin' about'' I rolled my eyes at how untrue that is.
He stared at me making me turn around and look at him, our faces where too close. Those eyes. I felt myself lean in making him lean in. But I couldn't do it, something was holding me back.
''I should head off to bed'' I cleared my throat making him stop and nod.
I stood up walking inside as I slowly closed the door behind me leaning on it, not sure of what just happened back there.

It wasn't something that just magically came together. It took time and effort for them to get to where they are, and I respect that. It taught me more about how to look at things so thanks a lot for making this book. I meant a lot to me. I will definitely read the sequel and your other books" - Generik_Jay
